I played No More Heroes a couple weeks ago. I get what they were going for but I feel like even for a Wii it could have been more polished.

    No More Heroes.

I can't stress how awesome this game is, providing you enjoy Suda51’s trademark weirdness. The different gameplay parts aren’t as polished as they could be, but everything considered it’s very good. The EU version has all the blood taken out, grr censorship and all that, but ultimately I don’t think it detracts too much – just the people with mops cleaning up after you look a bit strange. Shame it's not doing so well sales wise, the cynic within me wants to rant about games not by Nintendo on a Nintendo console being neglected, but I won't let it!

I'm not trying to convince you otherwise or anything, I think it’s completely valid to loathe he idea of jumping through so many hoops just to get started. But I just wanted to stress the combat and other gameplay mechanics do get much more fleshed out as you head towards the end-game.

There are plenty of justified reasons for disliking the game, I’ve quit it twice now and only really play it because it keeps me in contact with my brothers and old school friends. Most of my time playing it is spent complaining about it.

But you seriously haven’t seen anything in two hours in regards to both exploration and skill set, especially on a new character running around the newbie zone with bare minimum. True, you’re never going to hit SHOOTAN GAEM levels of flinch and adrenaline, but that’s not what the genre is about to begin with.

    Vashj:

    Wriggle, 70 undead rogue.

    Komachi, 21 orc warrior.

Levelling up Komachi to be a Death Knight in WotlK.

    Twisting Nether:

    Timeless, 68 orc warlock.

I sold Timeless (then called Aiidoneus on Vashj) shortly after TBC hit because I didn't like the warlock class anymore. But the guy who took her hasn't used her, just cleaned out her bags and replaced my tier 2 with greens

Some Japanese Dude has created half a game engine to produce a Touhou / Tales of [...] crossover as an April Fool's joke :/

Okay, that sentence probably made no sense to half the board, but I'm linking because of the sheer effort involved.

Edit: Also how old are you? The only education you have listed down there is GCSE's so I assume you are at least 16. No A-Levels/Diplomas/Degree? Most place's wont hire unless you are at least 18 and GCSE's don't really cut it anymore for jobs.

I'm not sure this is true, is this your experience? While I’ve only had two interviews (but got them both, woo!), none of them really cared for my education at all. Only my portfolio, attitude and the challenges they set me during the interview process. Which actually annoyed me a little bit given I'd spent 4 years on it!

I think higher education is definitely a plus though, information and social skills are going to be needed and this is where you get them. Though if I had my time again I’d have studed a course I cared about instead of a generic computing course (basically so I didn't have to get a job, what a fucking layabout), now I'm doing all that stuff in my free time.

As for the feedback, I think Defrag is bang on the money. Open straight onto the content you want to show them, do not put anything on there that could give them a reason not to employ you, and don't be modest!

From the sound of things she watched someone play a game for 10 minutes and wrote her opinion on it. I’m not exactly sure why a Celebrity Fit Club contestant is qualified to judge whether games are dangerous or not, though.

I've read the Tanya Byron article and it was pretty positive, all she was pushing for was a better rating system and age check on the console/PC (which I believe does exist on the 360, PS3 and Vista?) so it's definitely been taken out of context here… and that's hardly surprising because it's the Daily Mail. The Daily Mail is in no way repressentative of anything, it’s read by the dregs of society.

    Quote

"It is important to note that there is no conclusive evidence of any link between playing computer games and violent behaviour in real life," the spokesperson continued. "Our concern is to make sure that inappropriate material is kept away from children. "The Prime Minister asked Dr Tanya Byron to lead a review to assess the effectiveness and adequacy of existing measures to help prevent children from being exposed to harmful or inappropriate material in videogames and on the internet, and to make recommendations for improvements or additional action.

"Dr Byron's review will be published shortly and Ministers will give careful consideration to any recommendations then." – Gamesindustry.biz

There’s a better article somewhere where the MP’s were discussing this in the house of commons but I can’t find the link. Basically someone had done zero research and was preaching how these are corrupting our youth, and a lady completely smashed down every argument he brought forward with things like logical reasoning and facts. It was beautiful.

Yeah, the whole tournament is going to be cookie cutter teams and I imagine most early games will be decided before the doors open. I’d be surprised if you see a single warlock... But on the other hand, I can’t think of anything more entertaining than a Druid healing himself for 3 hours hugging a pillar.

Edit: To paraphrase for non-WoW players: LOL GEEKS.

They could bar people by their in-game ratings, but it’s pretty poor form given it’s not an invitational tournament. The fee is there to stop people applying for the hell of it, and will probably fund the reward/event*.

It’s a really bad game for competitive play though - okay, I know, 10 million players; but the foundation for the entire arena side of the game is flavour of the month classes, counter compos and random number generators... Yet this’ll probably get more coverage than any fighting game tournament ever has.

All these games are ones hoping to be franchises, they leave it open for the inevitable sequel to get people interested in what happens next... though you kind of get the impression the next game will do exactly the same thing until the series is no longer profitable.

Half-Life 2’s episodes did a very good job of having a contained story with a beginning, middle and end, though you’re kind of used to having no idea what’s going on due to their approach to storytelling anyway (not telling you anything = depth!). Uncharted had a nice setup for a franchise where the whole thing is self-contained but with potential for countless more adventures.

As I understand it Canadians have been unable to enter previous Blizzard tournaments due to laws over there, probably something to do with gambling. This must be some kind of loophole.
