The new details seems fairly abritary though. I didn't expect Emerald Hill Zone to have a city skyline, "roboland" signs, totem poles, light fixtures, chainlink fences, metal signs, burning trees, a whale...

Well, I’m in Japan right now (going back tomorrow) and in order to get my fix I had to pop into arcades, so I’ve been playing my Japanese shootan and fightan games almost exclusively. Finished DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu 1CC (both loops and Hibachi), finished Mushihime-Sama Futari Black Label 1CC with 3 extends (counter below 100,000 though), and looped Progear (but died on 2-2). Gaijins in your arcade, completing your games.
Also played BlazBlue: Continuum Shift (and CS2) and Arcana Heart 3 which I had to begrudgingly admit is probably the best air-dasher fighter out there after Guilty Gear.
This has all been noise.

Edge and Eurogamer are the two places I would go.
Kotaku often word articles and headings wrong on purpose. And they post stuff by Tim Rogers. Good for gossip, though.

Kotaku only write what'll get them hits, though.

TFC is a pretty bad example when saying "it didn't need restrictions because it was based around a competitive game". I played TFC extensively and was in one of europe's best clans, as well as playing in |404| in North America (yup, I was a mega nerd). The leagues certainly had some rules but the vast majority of top teams adhered to various pieces of restrictive etiquette (either because they felt it made for a more enjoyable game, or they felt pressured to agree).
Quote from DefragI've played quite a lot of TF2, but it just doesn't do it for me in the way TFC did
I personally liked TFC a lot more because there were more esoteric tricks and skills to learn (concing, bhop, trimping, ramp sliding, ramp jumping, skimming, conc aim and so on), whereas in TF2 you have a smaller set of skills and have to focus on improving those.Quote from DefragAs such, I believe capture point gameplay is superior to CTF for general gaming.
I think we can make a distinction between actual event rules and gentlemen's rules. A lot of clans I played didn’t mind taking potshots, for example, and the game wasn’t rendered unplayable. But you didn’t have to hard-cap classes and remove whole gameplay mechanics (Ex: critical hits).
Personally my clan experience was quite brief but I did spend a lot of time on skill maps learning little tricks then going on public servers and flying around like superman or detonating dispensers to build sentry guns on light fixtures. There’s just no scope for stuff like that anymore.
Domination is a "better" game mode for "modern" "team" games because Joe Average helps by just running to the nearest chokepoint and shooting people. That doesn't mean CTF was bad, though.
Quote from DefragI always seem to be attracted to games with a wide range of things to do, lots of classes and lots of nuances.
Play Guilty Gear
Quote from JetsetlemmingMore people care about options to help blind players play the game than give two shits about "competitive" play.
As long as you do the former by not removing stuff from the latter everyone is happy.

TF2 is TFC with half the features removed and the maps turned into domination deathmatch because the concept of defence is lost on 90% of pub players. Competitive play comes with so many class restrictions and rules that just weren't required in TFC because it was built around (or, at least, on) a competitive game. Not achievements and hats.
Though people will only remember TFC for dustbowl grenade spam. And those no skill medics jumping around really fast somehow.
There are plenty of solutions for the player having to make choices where some are bad and potentially unclear. Fighting games have to deal with this all the time and led to the introduction of tutorial, training and challenge modes, as well as in game slack mechanics. It's also paired with RTS/RPG elements that can highlight good, safe choices when it comes to character development or positioning... Or, you can just remove huge chunks of the game, only hardcore players like that stuff and you can spin is as 'streamlining' or 'back to basics'.

I've not actually got to play this yet, but letting go of the d-pad to drop straight sounds weird. You can see why they did it, but most platformers have a button press to do this (Mario 64, Prinny, etc.). Well, we'll see, professional reviews are really positive.External Content www.youtube.comContent embedded from external sources will not be displayed without your consent.Through the activation of external content, you agree that personal data may be transferred to third party platforms. 1) Take RTS
2) Remove 99% of game elements
3) Become most impenetrably complex game ever
I always preferred the much older Aeon of Strife levels, that were always hacked. So halfway through the game player one would activate some item or type some key word and suddenly obliterate everything in sight and, while calling the opposite team noobs, try desperately to raze the base before everyone quit.

Skies of Arcadia? Apparently having flying boats transcends genre.
Can’t wait until I get back from holiday to try this out.

No Dad
Cool! Although I won't be able to check it out in October... but I will put forward my feedback that she needs
. Actually May is a good spunky sky pirate reference, lots of subtle things (like her crow's nest air dash animation), but probably too late now.External Content www.youtube.comContent embedded from external sources will not be displayed without your consent.Through the activation of external content, you agree that personal data may be transferred to third party platforms. Free-to-Play makes some serious wonga.

Yeah, I really like TIGsource and read the devlogs all the time. But some of the reactions are weird.
But here at mapcore we have EOT. :derp:

Minecraft dev to found own studio after $3.8m success.
I'd also like to be unprofessional and share my favourite post from TIGSource.
QuoteI decided to look up some gameplay videos of this game... I'll admit, it does look really fun and well designed; I'm tempted to play it. Still, I'm shocked that rakes in $250K per day and I refuse to be a part of that, so I'm not going to buy it.
Indie's unite!

Run and cover on the same button is a bad configuration for both platforms. I got Barrier with Advanced Training so if I get into trouble I can throw that up. But with the melee damage boosting gear, Heavy Overload and Incinerate I don't do anything defensive ever.
That’s normal mode though, (fun) Vanguard is unplayable on insanity. I gave up on that mode at the Horizon boss.

Are you going to cheat on her or is Tali in the party member zone? I tried not to get too caught up in the good/bad rating and just did what I felt like, but still maxed Renegade both times because I'm such an ass. Thanks for mentioning ME2, because it was reminder for me to Vanguard Punch my way through the latest DLC.
-
Hells yeah, my Shepard is completely faithful with Tali (didn't do a romance plot in ME1).
Not that I ever used anyone but Mordin and Miranda in missions.

Comments are hilarious.

Man, if it came down to it, I'd buy this game for the CG alone.

Going broke BEFORE release. The indie bundle was the only thing that kept them afloat until Amnesia could ship. Maybe in the future they'll balloon out and grow and start releasing on multiple platforms, but right now they're PC through and through. I mean, they've even got Linux versions. That's the PCest you can get!
Edit: The linux version thing reminds me, their custom engine is using OpenGL, another barrier to console versions, unless Sony's super open and forward with trying to get a port out of them. And Mac. If anything it shows their code is probably in a good state to be ported. I don't think the porting itself is going to be the issue; it's going to be finding the publisher who is both willing to invest and not take their souls.
Also, DVDs are scarier than Blu-Rays because I’ve never been scared by a film I’ve watched on Blu-Ray.
