I 100% Uncharted 1 because I clearly have nothing better to do. I only played Uncharted 2 through once, though.

Ah, I mainly just stealth killed the obvious targets then got to a nice piece of cover and started blasting, so I would've got the same amount. Consider me educated.

I'm pretty sure you get the same number of reinforcements no matter how you approach an encounter.

The new melee stuff looks realy good, I really liked punch-ups and stealth kills when the setup allowed it. Nothing will mix-up dry cover shooters quite like the Vanguard, but that would be slightly out of place...

There's no one stand-out gimmick or anything like that which makes it great — it simply excels in every single way. Literally everything from the script to the music to the graphics to the audio to the (action-stealth) gameplay is absolutely spot-on in every conceivable way and results in an overall experience that I still consider the absolute pinnacle of this generation.

Well, let's not go crazy. Uncharted is cinematic awesomesauce, with great characters, compelling story, the best action set-pieces ever, and the target game of anyone looking to create a linear roller-coaster narrative or whatever. But the underlying cover shooter is rather dry, and the traversal and encounter design places a bit too much reliance on the frequent checkpoints.

Killer7 has already been mentioned and would be a logical choice. Gregory Horror Show might also apply.

Deadly Premonition is Twin Peaks, though. It released at budget so it must be dirt cheap to try now, which would be worth an experiment.

Did they show an interest in technology? If I remember right all the advanced technology you have was planted by the Reapers anyway, to make sure life progressed the way they wanted. They built the mass relays, the citadel, and put the artefacts on places like Mars for you to find. They need organic material to make more Reapers, but they all have the same cuttlefish design except the human larva you blow up. Well, I’m sure some of it ties together but it feels kind of loose.

There's a few games out there that generate levels from music.

It certainly is similar to AaaAaaAaa. I remember reading their levels were generated half randomly and half by a designer falling down a route they want the player to take, so I would assume it now does that second bit with music. I also remember them saying an eye-catching name was important, so I guess that explains dropping babies.

It seems perfectly reasonable that the Reapers would attack Earth. Don’t panic.

I really like the Mass Effect series but I find the storyline is rather disjointed, To my knowledge they still haven’t explained after two games

    Quote

what the Reapers motivation is. We know they’ve built up countless generations of life based on planted technology and then systematically wiped them out, but we don’t know why they would do this. In the first game you ask the glitching temple AI this question and it says “lol I don’t know but you have to stop them anyway what does it matter” to which Shepard says “lol okay.” And that’s that.

In ME2 the abducted human colonists were used to create the human reaper you tried to forget about, but if it’s a convoluted reproduction process that makes no sense either... Unless Reaper activists have convinced Reaper battery farmers that organic material should lead long and fulfilling lives after millions of years of slow gradual evolution before being mangled for parts.

RPG is a vague term and basically means "levelling up." If a new FPS game is said to have RPG-elements nobody expects a terrorist Dungeon Master placing down evil. I don’t think these two genres are directly comparable and consciously skipped your list of perceived problems.

Although incidentally the JRPG Darkengard had Arioch. An elven mother whose family was murdered, and to get stronger she formed a pact with a demon that made her infertile, and she now enjoys killing and eating children. But, as that level of background detail and genre might suggest, this is not a player choice. You can’t feed her salad instead.

So... no one that's gonna talk about gameplay? Y'all seem to be talking about the spiky teenager stuff but that's not why I posted this game here... I posted it because the gameplay is very good, has much depth and is challenging. The puzzles are well designed and are plentiful. There's no point in arguing over the thematic differences between JRPG's and western RPG's, yes the spiky hair is true, yes there's some emo stuff here and there I guess... No one fond of puzzles here then? :/

We are. The gameplay is rubbish because you can’t murder children in cold-blood apropos of nothing.

I’m still doing another playthrough of Final Fantasy 7 and completed that optional quest where Yuffie steals our materia. I caught her and she wanted me to pull a lever, which I suspected would not give me my materia back but trigger a humorous escape sequence. I didn’t want to do that! I wanted to kill her, strip her clothes off, hack off all her limbs, drape her body parts all over the local pub, and throw her lifeless ragdoll toso into the barmans face, while nobody reacts or notices at all. I can do that in WRPGs, thus they are better, even if a completely different genre with different goals, and are knowingly and openly at different points in the sandbox/linearity spectrum.

You're not allowed to express interest in that foreign muck here. All RPG protagonists should be a series of sliders you tweak for half an hour at the start of the game to try and make it look like you haven't had a stroke. And I don't want to play as some metrosexual teenager, there will be no spiky hair or bright colours -- and that's a wider-ranging rule. My old muscular man will have the only hair option that doesn't clip through his neck, and stubble and a big manly scar. And then I’ll put on an ugly bucket hat and/or switch to first person where I will randomly flail my single sword attack at giant rats in prefab dungeon #524 in a Dungeons and Dragons-esque universe in the name of immersion. Not that would understand with your immature games where you can’t even have gay sex with a dwarf.
