Even in casual play MvC3 causes a lot of rage.

The latest disc release was Continuum Shift which is fairly old now, but Continuum Shift 2 was a recent free rebalance patch and they have released three DLC characters. If you grab all that it’s pretty recent.

They’re location testing Continuum Shift 2 Plus as of this week but that won’t drop on console for a while. Relius Clover has been added as a new character and I suspect Kokonoe will be playable too given how much screen time she gets on the arcade attract trailer. Relius seems to play like a Jojo’s Bizzare adventure character and summons robot made from his wife, and his son Carl Clover is trying to kill him (who fights with a robot Relius made from his sister but threw away). Best family ever.

I'm not saying we need a "games for girls" or "games for seniors" thing because that's stupid -- but that JPEG is trying to hide how the core console industry is still a "games for boys" manshoot circle jerk.

The female gamer population in particular is something I see purposely misrepresented quite a lot. I remember an argument that got quite heated in which I tried to argue a gory hack and slash does not have a 60% female audience and therefore we can’t easily justify a male/female protagonist choice. I’m sexist and not progressive enough to double asset budgets.

Stream didn't really happen as the venue has rubbish internet and we had four power cuts. Marvel vs. Capcom is up on the link and Super Street Fighter will probably be up soon. Might post the BB matches when they’re uploaded if they include the crowd noise. People weren't happy two relatively bad players made top 8 with an imbalanced, faceroll character. And proper imbalance, none of this Sagat -> Guile -> Yun nonsense where people just need to man up.

Fairly sure one of mine was recorded too and, spoiler, I lost. But the commentary setup meant someone from the other team was talking, so if it’s not too hostile it might be funny to post for the trash talking at my expense.

i really want to get a fightpad to start out with, but i want one with a usb cable, not wireless, and those things don't seem to exist for the PUSS3. the hori stick looks pretty cheap, but can it stand up to TE sticks?

It’s not an amazing stick and one of the guys at SvB has a kind of running joke about how low-rent it is, but it does the job. It’s not really about which is better but what works for you, yeah? I’m getting a replacement but that’s mainly because it’ll work on DC/PS2/PS3/360/PC using some funky modification. Seimitsu stick, sanwa buttons, custom art.

You basically have three main manufacturers; hori, seimitsu and sanwa. People generally believe sanwa have the best buttons but be aware you only need to breathe on them to activate, whereas the others need to be pressed down further. Seimitsu sticks have less deadzone and are quite 'tight.' Sanwa sticks are known for being quite ‘loose.’ Generally the former are used for shmups and the latter for fighters.

The TE uses Sanwa parts for everything but isn’t particularly well built (if anything it’s the contrary), it just got the SSFIV brand and they could charge silly money for it.

    Edit:

The main event matches are uploaded here and there are so many good ones, but I know I’m chancing my arm linking any of these in the first place so I’ll keep it short.

You can’t really hear the crowd except for during the intermissions but it was really harsh. Mike seemed like a nice guy so I’m glad he smiled through it. It’s hard to describe exactly how stupid. Noel is, though. I could live with the mental damage if she didn’t get by spamming moves with crazy invincibility that can be cancelled into mix-ups on hit, block and miss. Shout outs to 2D (the cartwheel), 4D (the ricochet) and jump-back super.

Raw MvC3 final footage was lost because when they mobbed the winner they hit the fire doors and that cut the power for some reason (happened five times, pro tournament).

With some unofficial side tournaments. I imagine the Friday stream will be all SSFIVAE and the Saturday will be all MvC3, because that's what people want to see. All the finals will be streamed, though.

I don't know much about fight pads, I personally use this (I have a custom on order that was due here about 6 weeks ago)... A friend of mine brought the Madcatz Street Fighter Pad and seemed to like it, but I didn't like the d-pad as you really needed to force it down. Sowwy.

I don't really know where to put this, but it's probably not that interesting to you guys anyway.

    http://www.twitch.tv/neoempiremedia

UK's version of Evo starts in the rioting capital from tomorrow to Sunday evening and should be streamed here (if not search for Super Versus Battle). If they stream BlazBlue groups I might show up, finals will all get streamed on the Sunday but I doubt I'll make it that far as I have been slacking off training and crunching at work.

Heh, I would say Wolverine is worse than Pheonix. Just not quite so brainless.

I do like the UMvC3 changes to both, but even by Capcom standards a lot of Michael is being took with that.

Been playing BlazBlue: Continuum Shift 2 and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for Super Versus Battle but judging by my performance last week it might be a bit of a lost cause. Decided to drop Taokaka in BB because she’s way too much effort, and went back to Tsubaki because she’s one of the few characters who makes sense (although less with the ‘balance’ update).

I’m only entering BB because I play MvC3 against people who complain about doing motions backwards if you jump them and run-away with rush-down characters (seriously, with Felicia's charge move I've got 5 stocks up against Wolverine). But there will be casual setups and it’s a fun game if you’re not taking it too seriously.

I juste replayed Silent hill 2 with a friend. Still very good except the character who has some broom in ass when you have to fight.

IIRC you can set the movement to camera relative somewhere in the options, makes James handle less like a wheelbarrow.

On closed battle.net? Please elaborate more, because I’ve never had my play ‘ruined’ by hackers in Diablo 2. There are people with bugged weapons (at high level) and map hacks, but nothing with a direct effect on me. What were they doing?

Hack central is just something I plucked from the air to describe to open battle.net.

Closed battle.net, which doesn't allow offline characters, wasn't perfect but it wasn't too bad. A few duped buggy items around (<3 dual AO_newith) and everyone had a map hack.

Also, sure for an MMO I wouldn't buy it if I knew my connection couldn't handle it, but I play a lot of RPGs and even if they do have coop/online, I always do a full SP campaign before I even consider going online. Just saying that I will buy some games for SP only that other people buy only to play online, you can't figure "oh well it's diablo, people will buy it to play online anyway"

But Diablo is designed with online play in mind. The multiplayer-focused economy is ingrained through all of the gameplay mechanics, worlds with multiple players unlock extra challenge and rewards, with friends is the best way to play the game, etc.

Honestly I often played Diablo 2 single player because I’m anti-social and I won’t group with people I don’t know (unless we’re silently going to stab some loot piñatas together and steal stuff before it hits the ground). This is the reason WoW is so successful, right? They realised the worst thing about MMO’s is other people. Everyone hates other people. So they let you play solo. They also realised in WotLK people also don’t like leaving town, talking to people, finding groups, or applying any effort whatsoever.

Anyway, certainly doing the single player campaign before grouping with other people is an option, but doing this in the offline version of the game is a mistake because your options are:

    • [*:3hzh9nc9]Play the game single player and offline. Decide you want to play the game how it was always intended and create a whole new character from scratch.
[*:3hzh9nc9]Play the game single player and online. Decide you want to play the game how it was always intended and use your existing character and/or gear.

Or go on Hacker-Central or whatever the non-battle.net multiplayer mode is called.

Diablo requiring an internet connection has probably created my quickest shrug of the shoulders to an internet mass overreaction. It sounds like “online game requires online.”

Let's pretend we want to play the Diablo series offline single player so we can get our panties in a twist.

But even if you wanted to play it single player the only sensible way was online in a private game. Because if you do decide to play co-op later (or PvP, lulz), you would have to make a whole new character.

    Who plays Diablo single player?

    Who expected modding support?

People buy and sell items in Diablo II (I made £30 off a magic hat) so what's wrong with it being made safer? Activision making money?

Has this fanbase ever reacted positively to anything ever?
