It annoys me that the Slim is a compacter but ultimately shitter version of the original PS3. I replaced mine after it bricked and honestly I've barely played it, no backwards compatibility and nothing this generation I still have interest in. Maybe the extra power on the PS4 will have games not running at under half an acceptable framerate with jagged polygons everywhere.

It looks a lot more professional but I wonder what lies ahead for mapcore. I feel most of us are here because of what mapcore was a decade ago and are just here now keeping in touch. Will mapcore become a site that produces articles, features, tutorials, interviews, etc? We have lots of forums devoted to new content but they're underused.

Anyway, functionality-wise, I'm not too keen on the ability to like posts, there seems to be a lot of blank space scrolling through a thread, and I preferred the old spoiler tag. However, all that said, it's definitely looking a lot more spiffy and I like the WYSIWYG interface.

Capcom went from being able to do no wrong to doing everything wrong. It's a real shame.

Story is not hard to understand, you know all you need to in the first two seconds, it's just lacking in any kind of "lore". Anyway, don't want to sound like a hater. It is the funs.

Apparently we're halfway through and I have no idea what the hell is going on. It has still never been established why this Handsome Jack guy has it in for me or, really, why he's bad as he seems no more sadistic than the people on your side. He wants to open the vault, which given that we’re vault hunters makes us rivals, but he’s also attacking the flying space town that was put into the air by some magic lady who has special powers for no given reason.

And that vault you’re hunting isn’t a vault, whatever you thought that was going to be, but an alien warrior made out of luminous purple rocks. Also, a video of a person with no specified motivation to help me will occasionally chime in to break the art aesthetic and tell me where to go, much later you learn she's an AI and called Angel but not how she's talking with you and, in a shocking and totally not confusing revelation, that she is and isn’t working for Jack who is the bad guy because he says so.

    Just shoot stuff I guess.

More like Mists of Care Bearia, amirite?

I was hooked big time on vanilla WoW so it's kind of a blessing it gets worse with each update. I know that sounds like nostalgia, but it's hard not to remember classic moments like seeing another player outside of town or actually talking to someone. Crazy times. Hopefully there will be a new wave of MMO's without homogenized classes, segregated PvP, achievements, daily grinds, PvE/PvP queues, etc. and I can become recluse again.

If you’re working on modifications to build a portfolio you will make generic, mainstream, brown and jam war shooters because the evil tendrils of the AAA games industry have ruined everything. Otherwise you make pure unadulterated art.

It's like those "only 9/10? ill stab your face" comments in mob from. He said some rubbish but harassing him on every possible medium doesn't really help.

Personally, I didn't get on with Borderlands 1 because I played it single player like a loser and it quickly became repetitive. I’ve expressed an interest in Borderlands 2 with my pals but we’ll see if they pick it up.

I have honestly never seen “manshooter” before and it seems a no-go in Google.. Oh well. As for the “first person genre” quote... it says that in the second article but not in the first. And they both still mention "FPS" in the title (and in the first's opening). FPS obviously does not include Myst, Riven, Dear Esther or The Witness. Perhaps this needs an amendment?

I agree completely with the second article. People in their bedrooms trying to replicate the quality made by teams 50-200 big (plus generous amounts of outsourcing) is pretty much suicide. I remember mods on Quake 2 that didn’t replace any of the original assets, except maybe maps to support the new game-type, but from Half-Life onwards even if you were doing a mechanics tweak to regular DM you had to replace every model and texture so it all looked different.

The “indie look” of large chunky pixels or polygons mixed with epilepsy is chosen predominately (though I won’t say only) because it cuts down the amount of work required substantially. Outside from a few examples like the obscure Buzzbots not many attempted a stylised approach as far as I remember.

Of course the other side of the coin here is people expected modifications to come out looking like Valve had spent 5 years on them.

Though, I also think this reason is why “get some mod experience” isn’t fantastic advise for people getting in the industry anymore. It seems more common for people to be told to download UDK and do something abstract in that based on their chosen discipline.

    - I totally do not get the opening gambit fawning over Myst. Myst and Riven have aged terribly because they had bad, shallow gameplay and charmed us with now-appalling graphics. And they clearly are not first person shooters, nor do I see their influence in FPS design, so lamenting about them being dubbed a “graphical adventure” is bizarre.

    - Conversely Doom is still amazing fun to play and indisputably one of the biggest milestones in gaming, even before you even get started discussing the other major milestone of strong user-created content and modification communities.

    - Everyone knows the genre is over saturated without you having to name drop someone. If you’re going to include his taunt maybe you should also include the 7DFPS games that prove his point?

    - Inventing and using the derogatory term “manshooter” seems rather unproductive, equivalent to writing an article about RTS and calling them “nerd games.”

    - This clearly is not about first person shooters at all, which is your title and stated premise, it's about how indie games from the "cultural elite and avant-garde" (not even going there) are using the first person camera in non-games where you walk around not doing anything.

Lots of cheap shots, unavoidable damage and shadow-stepping headcrabs. It all adds up.

I'm enjoying the nostalgia injection, though I find any traversal more complicated than walking down a corridor is a major pain.

Playing Half-Life 1 in an up-to-date engine is a dream, though Source is pretty sweet too.

Nintendo don’t sell consoles at a loss like Sony and Microsoft.

Third party generally doesn't do very well on a Nintendo consoles.

Smart Glass probably won't get any dedicated games but is much better tech.

I don’t want to play Bayonetta 2 on brick.

    Thoughts.
