OFFICIAL TRAILER:
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/quake4/index.html
Looks very much like Doom 3 but I'm sure the game will pan out to be totally different..
KFS -
That would fit very well into a Max Payne style environment...

Delta Labs 1 was kinda boring and the maintenance bits looked ever so slightly similar to the garages in Com Transfer. It picked up once I got to 2a though, I like the clean design of the labs, reminds me of Shock2's command deck. One thing that annoyed me was when Ian gives you that video before you teleport it's just an audio log with his details on it, he talks about some pictures of a demon found when teams went into the portal another time, they couldn've showed that instead of his boring details constantly, it's only a small thing but it just seems like laziness to me..
Only 3 more levels till Hell

I was reading the paper on the way to work this morning and it reckons that the technical specifications are 10x more powerful than that of modern PCs yet it only has 256mb of RAM

Kerry King's solos are bloody annoying and a bad example of decent solos in metal really, still respect the band though- Dave Lombardo is a fucking good drummer.

I'll still be changing bits of the machine eventually so it doesn't matter too much really, just so long as it's playable and doesn't look like shite!

Exactly. ¬¬ What's HL2 without the fancy shaders??Although when I tried it on a ti4200 with similar processor/RAM specs to D3, it certainly didn't run smoothly on full detail.
There's a fix to add the fancy shaders for DX7/8 cards so you get the cool water effects and everything too, it's on one of the older PCG DVDs and is probably found on Steam as well no doubt.

i havent gotten to hell yet, in fact i havent even met up with the rest of my "delta teamates" or whatever.Anyways, after people were getting posessed and after i started killing zombies, i walked into a bathroom. You look into the mirror and the screen flashes red and the dudes face gets all fucked up. My friend said this is when you get posessed by the devil, is that what you guys think it is?
I think that's just the demons messing with your head, stuff like that happens several times during the game (ie; chairs flying about, corpses being launched at you, a vision of skeletons and bloodstained hallways..

"One criticism is the item/enemy placement, I was in 'Communications Transfer' and I came into a room that had three Z-sec zombies in it and then two Cacodemons spawned in, followed by five imps after that. I was at 20% health and what is there to patch you up with after that big fight? A measley small med kit, to make matters worse there were like three imps in the next room too.. I just managed to make it.. just."Isn't that a good thing? If you *just* made it, means the game is balanced very well.
Yeah, but I suck

If you're having problems running the game then turn the detail down, in all honesty it looks great in all detail modes and medium is a nice balance between good graphics and smooth gameplay oh and turn off 'Antialiasing' it really doesn't make much of a difference if you ask me, plus it costs shitloads of fps.
Ok I've just reached Delta Labs, the Recyling sectors and the Monorail were really cool, that fight with not one.. not two.. but three fucking mancubi.. christ man, and I was complaining about Com transfer..
Still, they're fucking nicely made and the sounds they make are true to the original doom. Revenants are good too and a bitch to fight with in close combat... ouch! -
That shot reminds me of the Oblivion Q2SP MOD that was released awhile back..
Sounds like an interesting idea, it would be cool to fight Strogg on home turf

Ok I thought I'd make a new topic rather than piss about with the other thread. Yes, I know just about all of you have already played it to death by now and either loved it or hated it or are somewhere in between, but I'm playing it now for the first time and it's my turn to comment!
The one word that everyone uses and I'm in total agreement with is 'dark' some areas are so pitch black by the time you realise there's about 5 zombies in a corner you've already had your head ripped off! The enemies are really cool, well animated and modelled and the set pieces are really good. I still can't get over how good this game looks on my system (I'll post my system shots when I'm done), it's only on medium and to be honest I don't think there's really much difference between that and high from the screens I've seen..
One criticism is the item/enemy placement, I was in 'Communications Transfer' and I came into a room that had three Z-sec zombies in it and then two Cacodemons spawned in, followed by five imps after that. I was at 20% health and what is there to patch you up with after that big fight? A measley small med kit, to make matters worse there were like three imps in the next room too.. I just managed to make it.. just.
Also it annoys me how just about everytime you pickup some health or ammo, imps spawn in to rain on your parade leaving you with less health than you started with before picking up the medkit!!
I'm still impressed though, although it's not really scary (although there are some ambient sound effects that made me feel a bit uneasy) I've jumped loads of times, but ultimately the combat becomes predictable so you're prepared for demons to spawn in or for a zombie to break out of a hidden alcove in the dark. The torch/gun thing is a bit annoying but ultimately not life threatening unless you're a complete berk who can't press the 'F' key as quick as possible!
Still, I'm only at the Monorail Skybridge, so I'm not even half-way through yet, so we'll see how the rest pans out.
-
Nah, sadly.
-
Got it thanks mate.
Pretty good stuff there, I look forward to more media!

Current specs:
AMD Athlon 1600XP 1.4ghz
512MB DDR RAM
GF 4 TI 4200 128MB
16x CD-ROM
DVD-ROM
Sound Blaster Live!
I'm running Doom 3 on medium settings at 800x600.. not sure how but there really isn't much of a performance difference between that and 640x480 on low.. which is weird seeing as the textures are compressed in that mode and they aren't in medium. A little slowdown when there's too much on screen but nothing to worry about really...
I think I'll be able to run HL2 to near enough the highest settings in which case.
This is now going to be 'the games D3 recently completed' thread whereby you'll come across titles you probably played somewhere along the line 4 years ago but I haven't been able to.. so nyeh.
Of course there will be the definative HL2 Vs D3 section, but I think we both know who's going to win that one... or maybe not.
Ok, back to the UAC base, I hear something nasty lurking in the darkness ahead...

wtf let him be!the guy had problems.
how you could put in ram in wrong slot is beyound me though.
congrats deadlode!
i know the feeling of having a comp that sucks.
i haven't played gta3 yet.
i was lucky to get a good comp when HL2 was realesd at least

Spellbinder.
I asked on this forum if anyone knew what the problem was as well, but no one suggested the RAM being at fault.. you guys suck!
I would've looked at the motherboard manual but it wouldn't of made any sense back in the day..
Oh and the RAM was actually in slots 1 and 2 when I got it, I didn't touch the inside at all!
Yeah yeah Mazzle, I'll move onto VC eventually.. and SA is out soon.. gonna kick total ass!
