the difference between Source and what people call "next gen" really isn't that big.....

as for the map....your HDR is way overkill...if theres a way to control the brightness and contrast of that you should tone it down..

I dunno about reviews...don't really see the point as we can just as well create threads to discuss our opinions. i think what we need to do is make the place more attractive for people not using Source/HL engines and artists in general.... As an artist when I post my work i do so to get feedback and constructive crits....focused. This is usually not the case on Mapcore.... I see a lot of art or levels posted and then a bunch of replies a la "looks great but you need to work on the brushwork" (without going into detail where and how to improve it) or "needs work"..... a good example for very good focused art critique is the Polycount forums... I hope we can have something similar at Mapcore one day...

agreed. i dont think we need any major changes.... and appointing people.... i dunno, dont think thats necessary... if everybody matures up a little and doesnt turn every serious thread into a EOT spamfest or posts useless comments then it's all good.

not worth normal mapping details like that.... unless its supposed to go in the background i'd model details like that. but since this is a texturing thread we shouldn't all be making flat colored diffuse and spec maps

    so yeah, what daan0 said..

I think it's publically known that "American" is a valid term to describe a citizen of the United States of America. A person from Mexico, even though Mexico is part of North-/Middle America is not considered an "American" but a "Mexican"....

i like it but I'd use mud as ground texture for the trenches... would make it look like people actually walked around there...

it could be neat for cutscenes too.. and remember that this effect wouldn't be limited to film grain...the grain is probably just some kind of shader and is modifyable....so that would leave the door open for a lot of things... but we will have to wait and see

Everybody who signs up here is a "Mapcore member", this is a community. I'm against having 'elite' user ranks seperating the newcomers from our regulars... It's good the way it currently is... Post Mapcore on a resume??? I think before anybody tries that this place needs to become a whole lot more mature...

Actually, there's specular preview in the editor. Not for normal maps though, since there's no lightmap view.

    well you'd kinda need both

the normal map will distort that anyways...
