Like I said though, Klein, they won't because they can't. It'd be suicidal for them to. Not to mention it'd destroy their monuments and religiously significant areas as well. What muslim nation would support Iran's actions after they nuked the Dome of the Rock?

it's not worth the risk. a nation who openly makes statements like that shouldn't be given the power to develop and later, threaten us with nuclear weapons.

That is correct ReNo. They usually tell you the company name on the phone or during the interview. Everything else is very limited for privacy reasons.

like I already said about five million times in this thread. The irani government openly threatened to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. That's enough reasoning to me.

Organisation hopes to set up dialogue with developers

The British Red Cross has told GamesIndustry.biz that it hopes to work with developers to prevent the "illegal and detrimental" misuse of the red cross emblem in videogames.

"It is important for videogame manufacturers not to use the emblem in their games, including for matters related to its humanitarian purpose, such as first aid or general medical care," said Michael Meyer, head of international law for the British Red Cross.

"The use of the emblem in videogames is both illegal and detrimental to the special protective value of the emblem."

Meyer's comments come after US website GameLaw.org published a letter from David Pratt of the Canadian Red Cross complaining about the "unauthorised and indeed illegal use of the Red Cross emblem by the [gaming] industry."

"The fact that the Red Cross is also used in [videogames] which contain strong language and violence is also of concern to us in that they directly conflict with the basic humanitarian principles espoused by the Red Cross movement," Pratt stated.

Meyer said this view was shared by the British Red Cross, which "has been aware of this problem for a number of years" and would welcome a dialogue with game developers "in order to prevent further misuse of the emblem and to try to stop current misuses."

"We would be willing to work with a videogame manufacturer to produce a game which shows the emblem in its correct use, as a symbol of protection during armed conflict, and where the player is rewarded for using the emblem correctly. Such a game could reward the player for respecting the rules of war and thereby, help the Red Cross Movement with its work to promote such respect," Meyer continued.

"The help of videogame manufacturers in protecting the integrity of the emblem, and upholding its special meaning, would be much appreciated."

I find it sad that you can't discuss a topic without insulting eachother, calling eachother names and downgrading eachother's beliefs....very nice... This discussion is going nowhere since people here can't seem to discuss a subject in a well mannered levelheaded way. Might as well lock the thread now before it gets any worse.

This is a ridiculous reaction. You could have simply changed my avatar. As it stands the thread makes little sense with missing posts like this. Also, this post as well as yours are off-topic, so please delete them in the interest of fairness.

What did you expect when you started using that massive avatar? Try not being a troll, then your posts wont get axed. A little bit of self-moderation among our users is not too much to ask is it?

  • Sony employee fired for comparing PS3 to Xbox 360

SOE artist defends online articleA former employee of Sony Online Entertainment has spoken out about how an online article criticising the PlayStation 3 ended up getting him fired from the company.

In an interview with PS3week, former SOE 3D artist Josh Robinson said: "All I really did was write a few paragraphs that gave my opinion on publicly released information... I didn’t reveal any tech info and I didn’t reveal different shipping plans. I’m still in awe at the whole uproar over what amounts to NO information."

In January, Robinson posted an article on his blog which read: "Our game just keeps getting moved back... And back... And back. Again, where is the box? Where is the final system? When is it coming out? No one knows and in the mean time people in the industry are starting to get just a little salty."

"You could always tell where the PS3 dev box was because it’s the room that had the F-bomb coming out of it half the day," he added.

But the comments most likely to have riled Sony executives were to do with the PS3's technical capabilities versus those of the Xbox 360: "I’ve also talked with people on the technical side of the Xbox 360. The consistent comment I am hearing from people on my end is, 'The Xbox 360 is better'," Robinson wrote.

"They are saying that it is capable of just doing more."

Robinson told PS3week that he asked at least two Sony employees to read the blog entry before it was posted, and even showed it to an SOE producer. "We were all in agreement that I was not breaking NDA with what I was saying," he said.

However, according to Robinson, he was "Let go at Sony after the article was plopped on the desk of Sony corporate. I was also asked to remove the article immediately, which I did without any resistance."

Although Robinson has defended his right to publish the article, he claims that he has no bad feelings towards SOE: "It was something unfortunate that happened and I sincerely hope Sony isn’t damaged by it... In fact I cannot say enough nice things about the CEO and the VP of the company."

"Did I knowingly break NDA? I absolutely did not. I would never do that and I would never want to hurt Sony Online. Did I dance in the grey area by even opening my mouth? Yes I did and I was fired for it."

Robinson said he received four or five job offers immediately after leaving Sony, and even got a book deal as a result of the article. He has now accepted a new position at an unnamed company in the Santa Monica area - but while Robinson is optimistic about the future, he has clearly learned a lesson from his experience.

"I guess the new rule for me is, don’t ever say anything at all about anything. Ever... Ever."

Anyone that thinks the US reasons their wars needs to actually read a newspaper for a change. The very reason why they had to go round the UN was because they had terrible or on some subjects, no reasons for their war against Iraq / "terrorism". The US has been threatening to invade Syria, Iran, North Korea, Libya and i've probably missed a few articles, they are keeping people prisoner without a trial let alone an accusation. They have broken every single rule in the declaration of human rights. Yet of course they're the good guys and Iran is evil. Team America world police to the rescue!

I never said they are the good guys. I said Iran shouldn't have nukes because their government threatens to wipe Israel off the map.

And Klein if you ask the ordinary man on the street what country US should invade next you might be suprised, i think it would be the same if you asked what country should we whipe of the surface of mother earth and i bet they would answer.

    And it wouldn't be non.

    Spellbinder.

that's why the "ordinary man" doesn't make these kinda decisions... and a statement like that from a random citizen does not equal a presidential statement like the one issued by the Irani government.

Yes exactly. A country whose government openly states that Israel should be be erased from the world map should not be given a chance to build nuclear bombs.

Quite like country that attacks anything and everythin "in war against terrorism" shouldn't have nukes either.

The US reasons its attacks at least...even if they were wrong about Iraq's WMDs.... they dont go out there and say "Iran has to disappear from the map". They attack countries that are a danger to other countries based on their own and foreign intel.

Iran just wants to take out Israel and anything and anybody who supports the "zionist race" as they call it. Think about it like Nazi Germany with nukes.... no good....

Their government does raise some valid points though. Why can't Iran have a nuke when the US has thousands? Because they are 'evil'?

well iran obviosuly doesnt know wut the hell they are doing. i think they are riding themselves deeper and deeper into shit. i dont understand how they can be so stubborn, threatening to stop the diplomatic "efforts". wudnt it be to their own advantage and in their own itnesrest to do ANYTHING possible to stay on the diplomatic track?

but i guess the irani president likes seperating his country from the rest of the world.... a big part of the popuation doesnt even like him and doesnt agree with his harsh views. but yeah sadddd

the real question is: what do we (the west) do about this? u cant allow a country like iran whos openly making threats to israel to have the capability of developing nukes. and if any military action happens im afraid shit will really hit the fan. china, russia, korea, teh whole area will be pissed off. Worldwar 3 anyone???!?
