Most of you already know about this from the Job census thread but after closing their offices in Barcelona and Gothenborg, GRIN now has also closed their HQ in Stockholm.

    http://gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=24786

Many Mapcorians are affected. But as a community this is where everyone can help.

I hope everyone affected knows that they have our full support here at Mapcore to help hook people up with new jobs. I already offered my help in the job census thread but I'll do it again here. If you are interested in working for in Montreal send me a PM with your resume/portfolio!

    Don't lose hope!

I'll give you a chance to explain exactly what it is that you want us to do with this. Do you need ideas? Do you want criticism? You are just posting random text and are not asking any questions. So what exactly do you want?

article in french but oh well...

    TORONTO (ONTARIO), CANADA:

    ---babelfish:

Giant french Ubisoft video game company, already installed in Montreal and Quebec City, convened the press Monday afternoon in Toronto, is likely to announce its presence in the Canadian metropolis.

The announcement will be made in the presence of Premier of Ontario, Dalton McGuinty and his Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Sandra Pupatello. The invitation to the press conference, which will be broadcast live at 13:30 on http://www.toronto.ubisoft.com, speaks to the "strategic announcement", which suggests that the new studio ' Ubisoft would benefit from government assistance.

The industry in Ontario video game complained for several years of competition as fierce as it engaged and Montreal

Vancouver, both strongly supported by provincial grant programs.

    More details to come ...

BTW the boy that claimed MJ molested him confessed that he lied and that his father told him to accuse Michael Jackson so they'd get rich.

":14oux83o]ah ah, maybe yeah... I don't give a fuck about politics tho, or economy! I just want to make good game art, don't care if this is the best industry ever! (call me naive... See if I care! )

You should start caring because the economy affects all industries unfortunately. Germany has never been a safe haven for the games industry. There's little to no support from the government in terms of funding. Look at Quebec for example where the government realized the economic potential of the industry and now pays about 35% on all salaries in game dev studios in the province to attract companies....The result? Ubisoft Montreal created 2000 jobs and a university campus, EA started its studio creating hundreds of jobs, Now Eidos with a few hundred more, specialized schools, etc... It's HUGE. Nothing even remotely close to that would ever happen in Germany. Instead politicians are trying to ban almost an entire market. It just goes to show you how Germany's politicians still live in the 80s in their minds.
