Amazon.com: If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Coulter: The United States of America. Oh--that isn't what you mean? Then x-ray vision. That way I could become the first blond white female ever hired as an airport security checkpoint guard.

go here for a bunch of moronic PRO-ANN COULTER and USA > REST OF THE WORLD posts.
yeah i saw it yesterday, and it went around the office... suffice to say most of the french canadians that work here were shocked.
and so was i. "canadians should be happy we allow them to live on the same continent as the united states of america."
like,... wtf? what a bitch...seriously.
and then this other guy tries to cover up here stupidity and says something along the lines of "why would you risk a good partnership for pointless bickering" or something and shes like "BECAUSE THEY SPEAK FRENCH." omg. that was soo over the top.
gee.
ok now im angry again. I think im going home now.
collectors edition consists of a hl2 t-shirt (b/w), the dvd, and a prima strategy guide with concept art and stuff in it. the box is black and has g-man, alyx and gordon on it.
you cant get the gold package as retail. read the steam site for the contents of the steam packages.
has to be teasing and make you scream for more.
really nice.
I don't exactly understand why you are making such a big deal of the static mesh issue, ferret. I highly doubt they were added to make the map "raise to be something it wont". They were added to enhance the scene and make it look richer. Sure some of them seem out of place but at least to me that doesnt mean its a shitty map. And you need to learn to voice your criticism in a way that isn't insulting. "this or that looks like ass" will help nobody.
I'd also like to point out the fact that this is a DM map. They aren't necessarily meant to be the most realistic depiction of the real world ever.
I also agree with most of what Reno said.
Well the Splinter cell team handled it differently and IMO they did a good job. It is also the way it is usually done in movies with lots of specialized people so it's not like its a totally new thing.
Chaos Theory looks really nice, they did an excellent job with their normal and specular mapping, which you'll see quite a bit of in the game with the scary dim lighting etc.
Quote from TequilaHaving a specific artist working on purely lighting seems ridiculous to me; makes me conjur up images of the development team looking like this: [image]
On the other end of the spectrum, 'a jack of all trades is a master of none' rings true. It's all about finding a happy medium.
well take a game like splinter cell which completely relies on and only works because of the lighting and it starts to make a bit more sense to have somebody dedicated to getting it just right.
There's some really really nice stuff in there dude... Welcome to Mapcore!!!!
At Ubisoft the level designers are basically just that. Designers. They lay out the level and do the scripting and so on. For all the other stuff we have special artists:
Texture artists, environment-/level artists (who are basically responsible for the static meshes and other props) and lighting artists who handle the lighting. I'm guessing with the new engines on the horizon we will also see shader artists and what not, gee we might even have those already.
So yeah. We have lots of specialized people for each department.
Can you guys keep it constructive please?
I'm sick of seeing people brainlessly bashing others work.
Some of you really shouldn't be talking until you have achieved something yourself other than putting down other people's work.
melting. most of it is gone now.
its been snowing for about a week now.

Looks pretty cool dude.
It kinda reminds me of Prague a bit with the run down playground and the blockhouses around etc.. I'd give it a bit more of a fucked up and rotten look though by adding some more random junk and broken stuff to the map. I'd also try and not make roads and pathes that are just blocks with textures on them... try adding some sort of transition between one surface and an other... for the roads for example add some curbs to the sides which can maybe be crumpled and cracked, put some holes in the road etc.. Oh yeah, also change the sky. The sunset one doesnt really help the atmosphere with the setting of your map.
Nice work, keep going !!!
And ferret, I don't know what world you live in, but static props are pretty common these days.
I have the same problem at work.. Somebody got it working with HTTP tunneling though I don't wanna know what security will do when they find out.
