There are options on the left side that are for browse from different places, click on MTL library and you load up a .mat from there, or merge them together, or get all the materials from one scene.

    No.

you can have unlimited materials in 3dsmax, you can only have 24 displayed at any given time in the material editor. Load up the map material browser (under Render menu) and from there you can swamp materials from the editor with the ones present in your scene. If you have a lot of materials you can save them in a library. there are also plenty of other useful features when using this

Snipa, I still think the metal doesn't looks like a metal, focus on something less cloudy and more solid, and put scratches of lines and dents..

    Here are more sculptures:

Well I did use those tools, but I used them as tools to create what I wanted, not just randomly...

For instance the last one is cloth I draped over two human figures I posed in a sexual position, but to make the forms more interesting I began distorting it with modifiers until I had a sculpture I was happy with.

For the bronzes I drew those forms out on paper almost exactly as they appear in those images, I used modifiers to help achieve what I had in my drawings

and yes they are fake, I did not print them out yet, They are rendered with vray

I am taking a digital foundry class at school, where we make digital sculptures in 3dsmax and have a CNC milling machine carve them out of wax, then we will cast them in bronze.

Here are two sculptures I have been working on:

We also have a rapid prototype machine and here are some experiments perhaps for that:

"It will be optimized for the game though"

The game won't have all that crazy physics of course. But it does provide an awesome glimpse into games two years or so down the road

  • Seamfoam and shorelines?

    • Vinny Testaverde
    • January 17, 2007 at 10:57 PM

Hi, this isnt really a engine question, but I am guessing that shorelines and seam foam, (like in farCry) are programed into the water shader?

But anyways, my question is how is it done? I wish to replicate this in 3dsmax without having to use crazy plugins. Is the foam animated textures on another plane of geometry that interacts with the shore? Is there some kind of falloff thats used on the ocean shader?

I want a animated realistic shoreline, but its just quicker to keep it simple, and obliviously the solutions game engines have to come up with are low poly, low resources etc.

    Thanks for any help!

Here is an awesome museum in Florence: Museo Zoologico La Specola,

They have all kinds of exotic taxidermied creatures and also these meticulously faithful wax reproductions of scientific dissections... but they are posed as art... so its like dissection as art.... wicked stuff... heres a glimpse:

Here is a crypt in Rome where the monks decorated the walls with the bones of their brothers... there must be over a thousand dead guys on these walls... they like made a chandelier out of one guy
