add a skylight in your scene, choose bitmap as your map, choose the hdri file, choose mentalray as your render, make sure to turn Final Gather on, and thats it pretty much.

your right, the idea is that this god is for our modern times, so medical technology is our protection now, the Egyptians used amulets, we use hospitals, thats what I was trying to get at. I'm glad everybody sees it.

    Welcome to mapcore,

Anyways with all computer software, whatever tool you learned on is the one you think is more intuitive and therefore you prefer... I learned 3d on 3d studio max, which is why I like that over Maya.

So in general, whatever tools work best for you use them, but yea as you understand it is good to expose yourself to all software and tools.

  • Games as Art

I think the Egyptians 4000 years ago created some of the most powerful "art" this human race has ever witnessed, but they did not call it "art." That concept didn't exist to them, we attach that word to what they did. Jennifer Lopez and Snoop Dogg get called artists today. So I think its sort of a dead end to argue about what can or can't be called art.

Video games, Hollywood, television. etc are entertainment. They may use artistic ideas, but, they use them for commercial gain. Its about money in the end.

The paintings in the caves, 20,000 years ago is pretty much better than anything anyone is doing today, its hard to match up to what those paintings were about. I think a thousand white boxes in a massive space is a good attempt at it however.

perhaps by re-energizing all those neural pathways that were created when you played these games during nascent years of life while your brain was still very much forming, you can your strengthen all your artistic neural pathways about thinking in digital space because they all stem from those earlier ones.

I know as a 7 year old kid I spent hours immersing myself in these 8bit and 16bit worlds. They are very primitive so much imagining was done. If I can go back and tap into that pure digital creativity, I think I would benefit, not just in level design (because I don't even map anymore) but in general.

How about using no content at all? Or no textures at least. Just have geometry of flat solid colors. Thats forces you to think about lighting, brushwork, architecture, the actual space etc, also gameplay and layout. could yield interesting results. Most modern architecture today uses little texture in their materials.

    examples:

It will stretch the imagination more and you probably get the most original source engine maps.

    just a thought...

you know most artwork is vagina related... I can open up my art history textbook and pick out dozens...

Its birth, its life, its sexual... its the biggest part of being human, so its inherently linked with art

people should realize that half of this is probably staged or edited, if not all of.

But yes there are very ignorant and stupid people in America, just like there are stupid and ignorant people in England or Russia, or Italy or anywhere.

I just don't like this stereotype when I travel, and I have experienced a little of it I feel. I can't blame anyone though. I'd be pissed off at Americans too.

oh well... America is not going too last much longer anyway, so I'll probably be getting out soon anyway.

and btw I can name just about every country in the world, their locations and many of their capitals... That doesn't make me smart though, they could be the names of planets in Star Wars, or Pokemon characters, its just names...
