There is definitely NOT a lack of a theme. Although the screenshots don't show it very well. There is no doubt, whilst running around the map, that you know it is an industrial building/factory of some sort.
This is kind of funny if u think about it. The theme is a factory of some sort.... of what sort? I think after mapping for few years for cs Daano is a bit more picky about themes. For cs an industrial map of a factory is generic, unless u show exactly what kinda factory what it makes and im not talking about big pipes evrywhere. Thats for cs tho, for hldm u can have factory making candy elevators, but doesnt fit a map called dm_petrol.
QuoteAnd the lighting is not bland at all. The refinery has some of the best lighting I've seen. You'd be thinking otherwise if the light_environment actually worked, since it'd add so much more colour to the map.
The screenshots do not accurately show the amount of detail and thought that has been put into the map. Have you people even played the map, or are just judging from the screenshot?
Then follow a lesson in screenshotting
Evrybody else is making screens which show what the light looks like, so i expected these shots to do the same. And yes im just judging from the screenz, i think Daan as well. Maybe it really is a perfect map -
so where do i take this pisatest

Actually, i am pretty sure that the people that donate (yes, that includes you) only donate because they feel better in the end. I'm not saying you are egoistic or whatever, but you help because it makes you feel good. Let me ask you something: would you help if it made you feel bad? This is just human nature, the very reason for anything any human does is their own happiness, it's true.
I think there was some kinda scientific experiment that showed evrything ppl do they do for themselves. For example giving money to a beggar, even if u think u do it for him ur actually doing it for urself, u want him to feel better and this makes u feel better.
As for helping ppl when it makes u feel bad, its not human nature, its impossible. Its like keeping your arm still when u want it to move, and even if u manage to keep it still, ur doing it to prove to yourself that u can.
So basically its impossible to do it for other reasons, and ur just the same as all the others Daan
Money is money, its irrelevant who gave it or why he gave it, someone could give it because he wants tsunami victims to drown in it. If he gave it to Africa you would probably complain it should go to Asia, and sending troops there u would probably complain they should go to Iraq

I don't like these guerillas and terrorists running Iraq either but you know what, thats just a matter of opinion, guess you pick the easy ones to care for eh?

I dont pick the easy ones, the Iraqis do. If they want to live between carbombs then its fine by me, but right now not even the suicidebombers want to live like that

You really think that the situation in Iraq is only considered worse because of carbombs in Bagdad?
Carbombs and lotsa other guerilla attacks, yes
QuoteYou think that the marsh arabs and kurds are way safer now then before the invasion because Saddam is gone?
Doh
QuoteGuess it was a good thing Iraq was invaded then RD?
I dont care if it was good or bad, its just a matter of opinion. I dont like these guerillas and terrorists running Iraq tho

however, the fact is that the situation in Iraq is worse than it was before the occupation.
Around Bagdad, yeah. Thats because of the constant carbombs, and the americans arent behind those. What about the other 90% of the country, the places where the genocides occurred on the marsh arabs and kurds for example.
The americans cant leave, so whats the point of your post. I thought we figured out over a year ago there were no WMD, get over it and be constructive

IMO, the spirit of the competition was to make maps in-keeping with the Half-Life 2 theme. Thats why Valve restricted competition maps to all-stock textures, etc. Since this is a competition map you can't really hold it against the mapper for doing a HL2-themed map.
quoted for troof. Id have said it was a worthless warehouse map otherwise, but fact is, this is hl2's theme. One thing u have to remember also, even an unoriginal dustclone can be excellent. Originality wears off after 5mins anyway

Try making my avatar as ur second model Reno. U can skin it as well

now put something like the crossfire airstrike in the middle and u almost have a classic

I like the theme, but it seems somewhat formulaic after your last model. Big hands and feet, interesting torso and head, but the legs and arms are thin once again and look to serve as easy joints between the clear focus points of the model. I guess having two models with somewhat similar attributes but being otherwise original is hardly worthy of great criticism, its just what stood out to me after seeing both. Good job though, particularly for a short development time
