  • I am late to the dietCoke and Mentos party...

Sadly, the video Izuno posted was filmed at my alma mater, Kansas. I have the same hoodie as the guy in the video and the house he was standing on is one of the rival party houses to my old house. The cops used to patrol that parking lot and tow cars on house party nights.

    So yeah, Kansas represent.

I suppose if you really wanted to fuck shit up you could rig some sort of mass dispersal rig and launching platform. My first thought would be to use some sort of wrapping around the mentos that dissolves slowly in diet coke. That way you could get a whole tube in there and have enough time to launch. Or you could crush them up and put them in a balloon, shove the balloon through the opening and wrap the nozzle of the balloon around the mouth of diet coke. The impact of it hitting would free the balloon.

Then again, I overthink things. Also, do this away from cars, unlike those jackasses.

I'm pissed off I missed the Brazil match. Hopefully I'll find a torrent of it.

We will whoop you in American Football or Basketball any day but no honestly, soccer/football should really be bigger in the US. I love the game.

Actually, we've gotten our asses handed to us in world basketball for the last 5 years because we don't understand how to play team basketball. We just throw together an all-star team, let them practice together for a few weeks, and send them off. Most of the top stars won't play for the team because they don't want to risk injury. The ones that do play don't play as physically as they normally would for the same reason. Meanwhile, all of Europe has started to field national teams that play together for months and years and have a very solid team dynamic. Our team members aren't used to playing with each other and don't understand how certain players post up or like to have a bounce passed delivered in the lane, so it's just sloppy play. Hence, we've gotten bounced from the Olympics, World Games, and Pan-Am Games. It's much the same reason we get our ass handed to us in world baseball.

But American football we can still kick butt in. The CFL and NFL-Europe consist of our farm league players that can't hack it in the real NFL. Plus, American football is the one game that you can simply win by being bigger and stronger than the other team. You can still have shitty passing and running as long as you're manhandling the other guys.

meh, almost all of those are bullshots, and the few that actually show gameplay have pretty disappointing visuals.

See, this is why we rebelled from your silly country and founded ours, where justice is always fair and sane people are in charge... wait... fuck.

    Thanks for the comments.

Regarding repetitive texture use of that one texture... yeah, I know. The problem is that the building oganically flows into the fortified walls, etc. I spent most of tonight putting overlays in the level and did some experiments with overlays on the church (those weardown stains from overhangs you see in old buildings, etc). I'm compiling tonnight and I'll see if they're going to be managable without killing frames (these freaking overlays are either going to be my best friend or i'll hate them)

Same goes for some of the detailing. I made a major detailing pass today, so everything has little flourishes here and there (and some eaves and rails are scaled better).

That giant white apartmenty looking building got a lot of nice flourishes today, so hopefully those will come out better.

As for HDR, Valve's latest "engine update" (which is the same one that broke Hammer and the deve tools) has done some screwy things with HDR, namely when I build cubemaps in both HDR and LDR modes, the game just permanently gets stuck with HDR cubemaps and HDR at full bloom. I've talked to some other people about it and they've had similar stories. So for the time being, I'm going to ditch HDR until Valve fixes things.

If the compile goes well tonight, I'll put up a playable beta tomorrow.

use the little directional dial to orient it. Yeah, trains are a pain in the ass. They take way too much work. They're buggy. They fuck up multiplayer. But for some masochistic reason, Valve keeps them around.

Kids today need to learn how to tackle somebody. I mean, punching somebody is all well and good, but a good dog tackle to the gut can do so much more damage. First, it gets the other guy on the ground, and, second, it winds them. Then you can beat the crap out of the little ponce for hitting your friends.

Please contain any shock and/or awe. Following hot on the heels of my last map release (you know... 2001... I think), I've put together de_kerk. It's still in the optimizing/detailing stage. I'll try to get a beta download out in the next day or so.

P.S. A big shoutout to Valve for trying their hardest to break all the development tools. It's nice being able to have HDR or cubemaps, but not both. Jerks.

first off, squeeze down your horozontal scaling in your screenshot. Your platform area is too wide, which will just end up making everything else overscaled.

second, play with decals and overlays to get a nice grit going

third, add a railing for that stairwell.

Spain seemed really out of order for most of the first half. I think they were just shocked Tunisia scored on them.

Fun fact I learned from the World Cup announcers: A resident of Ghana is called a Ghanadian.

France got robbed on that one goal, though, so they should have won. But they really seemed to run out of steam for the last 20 minutes or so.

US got called for soooo many fouls it was funny. We deserved them, but it was still nice to see them getting their aggression out by manhandling Italy (especially in the first half).

Now we just need to score a goal on our own instead of having the other team do it for us.
