    but still bad

Hehe... Well, lots of "normal" things could be considered bad. But it really depends on how you consume it.... smoking it obviously isn't good for you...not because it's weed but because you're inhaling smoke. There are other ways to consume it though, like eating, vaporizing etc. which are all pretty much harmless to your body. According to some recent studies even smoked cannabis does not cause any significant long-term damage to your lungs as the plant matter does not stick to your lungs the same way that tobacco residue does. There's a lot of bad stigma attached to cannabis but when you really look at scientific facts and research that has gone into the matter you will see that most of the negative things you have heard about it have probably long been proven false. You can't even OD on it, no hangovers either.

hehe have you started smoking weed after you became a rockstar??

Cannabis is bad, kids. And it's not cool either, no matter how badass you think you are.

The shitty thing is that they confiscated our cigarettes at the entrance gate cause people were smuggling weed in cigarette packs, but everyone inside was smoking weed anyway

you have to take into account that for stealth to be successful, the level design needs to be built around that mechanic. i think one of the reasons it worked in c1 was because of the level of openness the game allowed for. looking back at deus ex, there's always at least 3 different ways to get from one section to the next, and so even in what seemed to be very linear sections, there was always an opportunity to take a different approach if you felt like it. c2 is so linear that it barely allows for anything else than just one type of gameplay, namely gunplay. stealth really feels like it is the unloved twin in the family. i haven't gotten to the end of c2, but in many of the sections i went through i was experiencing huge problems with taking alternate routes around patrols and soldiers, and many times i was just straight up forced to try and stealth past them, often with them noticing me just as i went by. ironically, my best c2 stealth encounter was at the helicopter boss in the lab, where while the soldiers knew i was there still couldn't find me. this approach was also a bit forced due to the sheer amount of damage rocket launchers would do.

I got bored of it really quickly because I felt that I could never play the game the way I wanted :/

i guess it might be down to the fact that they've never needed it to do more than it does.most probably, originally the limitations we see today were there as a design decision based on considering the time that would be needed to compile an average map on hardware that was around in the hl2 days vs how much of a difference it'd make to the result.

as far as i can recall of valve games (even the newer ones like the l4d series) there aren't really any cases where a scene demanded much from indirect ambient lighting. - so i guess it's just down to an "if it's not broke don't fix it" mindset together with the LD only focusing on scenes that won't suffer from the shortfalls of the system.

i've found a bit of success though by mixing together the suggestion about the vmt reflectivity values together with the -extrasky compile option on vrad.

If you use values such as .5 .5 .5 etc that means your texture map is gonna bounce white color only.

from what i've read, the reflectivity values are a multiplication of the base values of the vtf, so .5 .5 .5 for a surface that is pure red should bounce rays that are pure red at 50% intensity of incident

That's incorrect. The reflectivity value overrides the VTF values.

Intellectual stimulation. For real. TV = sit back in my chair and go braindead. Gaming = sit forward in my chair and use my brain to figure something out...while being entertained.

Is there any form of entertainment that's not intellectual stimulation? Surely anything that isn't intellectually stimulating can only be boring, therefore not entertainment?

Are we saying the same thing with different words?

Watching porn is a good form of entertainment that isn't intellectually stimulating.

Fight Club generation : The 20th Century Fox buys the rights of a novel to make a controversial movie debunking mass marketing medias and consumerism ?????

oh yes, manhood; the phantasm goes on, that sells; real men rediscover their virility with another bunch of muscular oiled men in a basement

    [Blocked Image: http://sergioleone.blogs.ipag.fr/files/Once-upon-the-time-in-the-west.jpg]

edit : i just learned that Chuck Palahniuk, the writer of "fight club" the novel is actually gay, which is actually quite funny if you rewatch fight club with that idea in head : A schizophrenic guy who reject the role society gives him and creates a "network" of men in a basement and make pink soaps to finance the organisation ?

Actually it might be a movie about the sexual liberation of the gay community :x ( For the gay people here, nothing against that, but i would actually find it especially funny because of the lecture straight men have of this movie )

edit : Please excuse me, but this is actually too funny, some quotes :

-The first rule of Fight Club is: You do not talk about Fight Club. The second rule of Fight Club is: You do not talk about Fight Club.

    -Self-improvement is masturbation. Now, self-destruction …

-If we are God's unwanted children, so be it!

-I'm wondering if another woman is the answer we really need.

-You have to consider the possibility that God does not like you, never wanted you, in all probability he hates you. It's not the worst thing that could happen.

-All the ways you wish you could be, that's me. I look like you wanna look, I fuck like you wanna fuck, I am smart, capable, and most importantly, I am free in all the ways that you are not.

-Listen up, maggots. You are not special. You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake. You're the same decaying organic matter as everything else.

-With a gun barrel between your teeth, you speak only in vowels.

-Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

I'll need the opinion of someone gay, but i don't know one that will tell me he is, so I'll never know; but if it's like i think, omg.. this is genius..

I always had this theory too. Their relationship seems like a marriage to me and there's even a quote in the movie that most of the week they acted like a couple or something.

Also, check out these deleted scenes, I think they removed these two because they were borderline homo:

While the environment definitely looks cool for what it is I think the final product suffers a lot from this limitation. There is obviously no material variation, everything is made from the same reflective metal surface. It's a nice exercise and I'm sure the guy had a lot of fun working on it but I really hope that doesn't become an excuse to not make textures for your environments (already saw 2 other "1 texture" environments on other forums..).

Material variation is one of the most important aspects of making an environment interesting. I'm not talking about using more textures, but having different materials. I'm gonna sound like Sentura now but the way the human brain works is by comparing 2 (or more) elements against each other. For example: Let's say you have a huge ass building with a large flat facade. If you don't have any ground-level details for scale reference the whole building is gonna look way out of proportion and disturbing. This is also the reason why it's always good to include a character model in your screenshots for scale reference and always have a character model inside your scene for quick reference when modeling. This is also true for materials. If you want to have your metal look and feel like metal, it's a good idea to place it next to other different materials, such as concrete or wood. This is definitely something I would have explored further on Zest Foundation if I was to make it today.
