Tried to play my city again this morning. After getting it reset twice last week it now doesn't even load anymore... just says the file is out of sync and never syncs it.

I think this video invalidates any claims that the princess is always the victim... hope everyone is happy now and we can all go home.External Content www.youtube.comContent embedded from external sources will not be displayed without your consent.Through the activation of external content, you agree that personal data may be transferred to third party platforms. omg I haven't updated this thread in almost 3 years! Some really crappy stuff in here but I'll leave it all as legacy lol
Anyway, been trying to get back to concept painting again. This was supposed to be a thumbnail but I got carried away and decided to take it further. Really regret not resizing it up before going in detail (that's why it looks kind of blurry). Not the most exciting design ever but I learned a thing or two

Will try to do a lot of value studies and thumbnails in the coming days, those really help to get more confidence!

The more I play this game the more I see that its completely broken to the core. Anyone else noticed the population inflation? The city adviser is always requesting more residential areas to bring in more workers no matter what I do. What is annoying is that from all the people who live in my town, only 20% or so actually do something (either work, shop or study), the other 80% just sits around watching TV all day apparently. I wonder if they are just phantoms to make the game look like it handles more people than it actually does.
Also:
I feel very disrespected for paying full price for this broken mess. Anyway, back to SC2k on my lunch breaksExternal Content www.youtube.comContent embedded from external sources will not be displayed without your consent.Through the activation of external content, you agree that personal data may be transferred to third party platforms. I'm really enjoying my huge ass city in sim city 4 guys.
Never played SimCity 4 much but isn't it kind of similar when it comes to small maps and neighborhoods? Anyways, I've tried SC4 on multiple machines and I always got graphics problems
Engine seems a bit crappy.I think I'm gonna try to play SimCity the way it's meant to be played next, working on my own region and specializing each city and see how that goes...

I think communication is crucial for this game, however... There doesn't seem to be good tools in place for that

Yeah true, how can you design a multiplayer game and not give any tools to communicate with other players XD (the wall thing is supper hidden and nobody checks it anyway)

Not really sure if I'll keep playing this game for too long... Such a shame, I had really high expectations for it and had some fun during the first hours. The game at its current stage feels like a complete rip off at 60 bucks and should be priced at 20 or something, because you are going to run out of things to do fast. Social features are super forced and feel more like a distraction than something essential to the game. I imagine it would be a lot nicer if you were able to trade/make deals with friends' cities even if they were not physically connected, instead of being forced to build together in these tiny regions.
Yes the maps are tiny but what really pisses me off is that public buildings take up A LOT of space, specially when you start upgrading them. A fully developed school for example takes a up the space of a few buildings. What is also weird is that when people in your neighborhood unlock some nice upgrade in one of their buildings, you also benefit from that. That sounds nice in theory but only adds up to the confusion imo. I really wanted to invest in education in my city but I wasn't sure if it would be redundant to have two universities in the same area for example. Somebody in our server unlocked the City Hall upgrade that let's you tax people individually by their wealth and I also got that ability. What the fuck.
Individual sims simulation is also completely unnecessary and doesn't add anything to the overall experience imo. If that was the reason for the tiny maps then I must say that was the most stupid design decision ever.
Another annoying thing is that everything you build needs to snap to a street. If you don't lay out your streets perfectly in a grid you are going to end up with a lot of empty spaces in between buildings, and guess what, unlike other SimCitys you can't fill those spaces up with parks or even trees or ponds, because terraforming is non existent. And then you have to pick a specialization for your city. Of course there are only a few available and picking one forces you to build even weirder cities to maximize the available space and be more efficient overall. Wouldn't surprise me if EA starts selling new specialization packs every few months, like they do with The Sims.
To add insult to injury you can't save and load at will, completely removing any experimentation freedom you would otherwise have. No more unleashing tornados in your city before going to bed.
Anyway, I should have waited for some DLC or extended edition that's inevitably coming sooner than later.

Okay guys, I've abandoned New Puddingtonville! It's called "Pinewood Hills" on the Mapcore region and should give you a 150 000 simoleon cash reward for claiming it (I demolished everything and left the cash). That should be enough to clean up some of my ground pollution.

EDIT: Moving into a nearby, more flat city. There simply wasn't room for oil refineries and shit on a piece of land that was basically a hill.
Thx for stopping polluting my city

Anyone else feel individual sim simulation is kind of irrelevant? I mean, what difference does it make if you can follow each sim in the city or maybe just 10 or 20?

Been playing it for some 25 hours now, actually it's been really stable for me the last 2 days, but even when you get past all the server issues then it's probably my least favorite SimCity game.
I know all this co-op stuff is super trendy and sounds pretty neat on paper, but after having gone through 2 cities and absolutely maximised them with all the space you've got, and suddenly realising that you're missing loads of bits to make things function properly as the city grows, then it just feels like a super limiting game. All the core mechanics and feel of the game is brilliant, but it repeatedly feels like a cruel joke when you run out of space, and have to bulldoze most of your city or work together with other players to make things work, or start a new city just to serve a single purpose.
It probably wouldn't run on most PCs today, but if they doubled the size of cities it would be the best game in the series by a long shot, but everytime I load up one of my cities now it just feels very anticlimactic.
Fucking gorgeous game tho, the next iteration of this could be truly amazing if they expand the city sizes.
Gonna play it some more, but I kinda already feel like I've seen most of what it can provide :G~
Join the mapcore region!

Is there an easy way to search for the region? Don't feel like browsing through 100s of different ones

I've invited you both guys! Origin/Simcity servers can be a bit sketchy so we'll probably have to work out various issues.

Everyone else, join up for MapCore glory! "Mapcoria" on Europe West 6 server. Add Puuddddyy on Origin, log on to the server and I'll send you an invite.
Added you, my origin id is MequetrefeOposto.

They really didn't have metrics on average play session length before they released? Or the amount of preorders or sales estimates?
Actually, I believe them, I don't think they anticipated it, I just don't understand how they didn't think people would want to play for longer sessions.
Or maybe they used metrics from the facebook game lol

Yeah true, it would be awesome if the book highlighted the ingredients you own when browsing crafting recipes too

Been playing this for the past 2 or 3 weeks and it is shaping up to be one of the best games I have played in a long time! Since I was playing Rogue Galaxy before starting this I kinda knew what to expect and I'm glad they fixed a lot of annoyances in Ni No Kuni (like super messy inventory, soul crushing crafting system etc...).
The battle system actually works pretty well (I didn't have the best impression when I played the demo) and leveling/acquiring familiars is fun (except for their level being reset to 1 when they evolve :S)
Anyway, pretty good JRPG with lots to do and no convoluted menus/storyline (like FF XIII-2) so you can actually focus on making progress instead of figuring out where to go.

Just bought it on amazon, they are giving a $20 gift card as well (much better than Origin's deal

Unreal world, this is such an unique game, some sort of rogue like / survival game, i've never seen anything like it. It's super time sinking, and i spent 15 minutes throwing rocks at a squirrel in a tree. But damn that was fun

So I decided to give Mass Effect a go after years of putting it off. I don't think I'm going to last much longer.

My first impression was great, I thought the graphics were spectacular considering the game's age and I was enjoying the Deus Ex-like dialogue stuff going on. However after landing for the first mission and experiencing the actual gameplay I'm really, really not feeling it. I guess the game's age is a contributing factor, but also this just generally leans a bit too far towards the 'RPG' side of things for me. Too much worrying about points, party members, stats, pick-ups, and generally everything I don't really like.
It also likely doesn't help that I just finished 30+ hours of incredible Deus Ex: HR, with its ultra-refined gameplay that is more or less the best I've experienced this generation. In comparison Mass Effect actually feels quite primitive and even the environment detail is leaving me wanting after HR's ultra-detailed areas. Maybe it'll improve, but usually if I'm not feeling receptive towards a game at this point it doesn't get much better with time. It'll be a shame if I can't enjoy this as I pre-emptively bought the sequel too. Maybe Dishonored will have to be my next buy.
Fucking Deus Ex, man. That game was so good almost everything seems kind of crappy now.

I'd say give Mass Effect a go at least until after the council meeting in the citadel. That's when the game really starts

I agree that the combat is not the best but it never bothered me much to be honest. Been forcing myself through ME3 for the past 3 or so months but I can't stand the "modernized" combat in that one... it just feels too much like a generic 2012 covershooter with endless hordes of the same uninteresting enemies. It definitely has some good moments, but it didn't get me as hooked as the first one.
While ME is surely a little rough on the edges when it comes to shooting, I still think it's the best one in the series and one of the best games I have ever played. Surely ME2 has better combat, but in modernizing some of the mechanics I think the game lost some of its magic (elevators, mako missions, weapons overheating instead of ammo etc...). I also think that the first ME had a pretty tight storyline, with great twists and the best villain ever in a videogame. The second one on the other hand has the story all over the place and a super lame ending... Still a great game tho
