Did anybody play FF12 here? That's definitely one of the most memorable games I have ever played... and still looks amazine imo. Really wish they would go back to this style and universe, which doesn't seem very likely .

Time for a HD release maybe?

I'm reading the book now and it's light years better than the movie. It's so misleading that this movie is even called World War Z because as others have said they share almost nothing in common.

The book is a lot more about how different parts of the world reacted to the zombie infestation, while the movie is just an over the top action flick with supermen zombies. One thing that is not clear in the movie is that the story is an alternate history one, which makes it a lot more interesting than similar zombie stories (for example, in the book there's the palestine people finally have their state and a civil war is going on in Israel during the outbreak etc).

Anyway, had they followed the book more closely this would be one hell of an original movie... but they decided to go the safe route instead since they were spending so much money on this (kinda like I Am Legend, and they completely fucked up the ending to please the sheeple audience).

On a more serious note however, it's a lot easier to get into game art today than it was 10 years ago, thanks to all these awesome training sites (gnomon, eat3d, 3dmotive etc....). Or as John Carmack put it: In the information age, the barriers just aren't there. The barriers are self imposed. If you want to set off and go develop some grand new thing, you don't need millions of dollars of capitalization. You need enough pizza and Diet Coke to stick in your refrigerator, a cheap PC to work on, and the dedication to go through with it. We slept on floors. We waded across rivers.

a day in my life in 2001: feel motivated, open hammer, make ugly warehouse with hl.wad textures, start again, make ugly de_torn clone, close hammer, open photoshop, make crappy plaster texture, start again, make crappy brick wall, get fed up, masterbate, play game

Started watching Fringe, still on the fence about this one. Does it get pretty crazy and imaginative or is this just a sci-fi CSI?

Does it still hold up? Always wanted to play this game

Still pushing myself through Final Fantasy XIII-2, think I'll just get a guide and follow it lol (too many alternate zones and no clue about where to go next )

Looks pretty sick, hope it doesn't turn out to be just another generic sci-fi action flicker with cool art (which is the vibe I'm getting from the trailers). But yeah if it's half as good as District 9 than it will already be better than 85% of movies nowadays

This is cool but you can get similar scripts for free on the interwebs~ Also the name is a bit misleading... this is not a pattern generator but more of a path deform/replication tool?

Anyway, wouldn't pay 48 for it

It looks good. I'm not sure i like the deliberately rough around the edges futuristic art design. It's a bit odd how everything feels simulatenously hyper-futuristic and 8-bit at the same time. it's not convincing for me atm, and the head bobbing was driving me nuts.

Maybe I'll come around though, definitely looks like a project worth supporting

Yeah the design choices feel rather weird. Retro future works well when the environments are relatable, but when you have hyper-futuristic environments with a few retro props here and there it feels very out of place and forced.

Lighting looks awesome though, definitely a game to check out when it's out

Really like all the different shapes and colours you get to gel together. Do you mostly free paint everything or use shape tools? I haven't really experimented with them yet so not sure what you can achieve. The perspective on the far left building and on the right side wall looks a bit extreme but other than that it feels solid!

This was all free painted (except for a few selections here and there)... I should really start using more selections but in the end I just free painted most of it. I actually kept copies of multiple stages for this one (since I knew it would be more complex than my last paintings) so I'll post those later when I finish it

Sentura: Yeah I'll add some silhouettes to help with scale and perspective

Dejavo: Yeah a lot of people complained about that car, will definitely fix it and the other perspective errors.

By the way, not sure if I posted this guy's youtube channel before but these are definitely the best concept art walkthroughs I have ever seen. I've been learning a lot by watching his videos: https://www.youtube.com/user/TylerE2284/videos

Check it out Cardo, I'm sure it will help you too

Love that warehouse piece. The colours are spot on but was also initially puzzled by the sloped wall section I've been trying to get into a bit of digi painting recently and am actually using some of your brushes you posted ages back! Starting to get the kind of effects I'm after though. Would really appreciate any feedback you have Minos. If you're interested I posted a couple in the totally random concept thread the other day.

hah which brushes? I try to use just very simple brushes for most stuff nowadays, I found that helps me focus more on the design and less on the polish (which was a bit of a problem before, I always spent more time trying to render the scene than actually planning or working on the composition).

Most of the times I use a square brush with rounded edges and a squashed down round brush (when working with perspective). I'd say to leave the crazy brushes to specific situations like effects, plants, texture etc...
