Yeah I really don't get it. It takes literally 5 seconds to get a replay and there are huge screens everywhere for the referee to see it on. Would stop all those players who fake a dive and start crying because someone tapped them on the back with their pinky.

At least we have goal line technology which is a start I guess!

Yeah it kind of sucks but imagine a japanese referee in the opening game in Brazil, that's a lot of pressure. He made the call to give the penalty because he didn't want to be the guy blamed for contributing to Brazil losing or drawing on their first game. One way to potentially fix this would be to have a vote with assistant referees when a dubious penalty is whistled.

Anyways, divers only dive because stupid referees always fall for that shit.

You have to watch John Carpenter movies with a different mindset than regular movies His (old) movies are usually pretty awesome but horribly directed. He writes good stories and makes good tracks but he fucking sucks as a director.

Look at Nintendo, showing real videos of real videogames, no bullshit renders, just ingame footage... Ubisoft, EA and the likes: take note!

One of my friends just set up a betting pool yesterday and I'm joining in on the fun. In order to have a slight chance at winning I'll need to do some research. Goldman Sachs created a report with analysis and predictions again (http://www.goldmansachs.com/our-thinking/o…omics-2014.html). They predict Brazil, Argentina, Germany and Spain to be in the semi finals and Brazil to win the cup. Anybody have an opinion on Argentina? They have been seen as a serious contender for several times and always ended up getting kicked out before the final. Any signs why it should be different this time? (and don't tell me because they've got Messi )

Squad: I wouldn't bet on Belgium winning the whole thing, but they've got a good team this time. I'm sure they will make it to the knock-out phase and if they play against Germany, it will be everything but an easy match for the Germans.

We should set up a betting pool here on Mapcore too

From my experience those predictions never turn out to be true. A lot of factors can change the result of a match, football is not a FIFA 14 simulation where the most "skilled" team wins. You can't predict vital factors such as a team's morale, how well they get along, if they have too many egos etc...

Anyways, I drew Uruguay and Netherlands on our betting pool here at work, so I think I have good chances

This is an interesting read. It's a long ass post with a lotta infromation and pictures regarding Brazil and why it shouldn't be having the WC basically.

    http://imgur.com/a/8pAeh

After a lot of thought put into this I came to the conclusion that the brazilian people are just very naive. When the country was chosen to host the WC all people cared was if their city was going to host games, which in their heads would lead to those places becoming 1st world cities in just a matter of years.

Fast forward to today and everyone is butthurt because the WC didn't solve any of the problems it never promised to fix in the first place. Nobody protested against hosting a WC when the election took place, nobody protested when it became clear that most of the funds were being diverted by corrupt politicians, so a few months away from the event (which is going to bring an incredible number of tourists to the country) it makes no fucking sense to protest about stadiums that are already built. The money is gone, forget about it.

The only redeeming act brazilians can do now is to make sure everyone visiting the country has the best time there. Tourists have nothing to do with the state of the country and they should be treated like one would treat a guest in their home. Like it or not the WC is everyone's responsibility now.

I think it's cool that people learned to protest there, but protesting won't fix a single problem. If people want to change their country they first have to change themselves, stop waiting for magical solutions for everything and just fix their problems themselves...

This is gonna be an interesting one. We obviously have the biggest pressure to win, but at the same time this is the first time in my life I can't give a shit about the national team roster.

I hope that changes during the tourney and they win my sympathy back

Still trying to learn and push myself on learning how to model and texture environment art. Again, this is for a source project and a recreation of a prop originally mastered by Mr. Thiago K himself Hope it lives up to the original!

The prop is used in a desert environment fyi, but I may have overdone the decay.

Eyes Wide Shut is awesome, definitely one of my favorite Kubrick movies

It's a very superficial movie at first, but if you want you can discuss about its intricacies for years and years and never reach a consensus. It's one of those rare movies full of multiple meanings and symbolism which can be interpreted in several different ways.

I'm not a Tom Cruise fan, I think he seems to be a stupid guy in real life, which is exactly why he is the perfect actor for this movie. I kinda see his character the way I imagine Tom Cruise is in real life.

Anyways, here's a nice analysis on the movie by some Illuminati theorist. Take this with a grain of salt, it's one of those cases of when you have a hammer everything looks like a nail so the guy sees Illuminati everywhere, but I think he's got some things right:

+ Bonus: Real life illuminati orgy a-la Eyes Wide Shut from the 70s: http://sobadsogood.com/2013/08/20/ext…t-dinner-party/

can you explain what goes into it? Are there a lot of interacting layers?

It's one of those things where I start to worry the shader complexity is so large that it might actually be better to model it out in cases where you are fill rate limited.

It's a pretty simple shader actually, the tricky part is making good parallax layers that tile well and look believable

Here's a UDK tutorial, the nodes are still the same in Unreal 4:

I finally watched a Marvel movie I truly enjoy: X-Men First Class. I love how they focus a lot more on character development and much less on explosions and puns. My only complaint is that I wish it had a more mature rating and thus more blood/violence

Don't forget, coffee (caffeine rather) is a drug by itself that causes addiction and withdrawal symptoms... in fact it's much more harmful to the body than some illegal drugs

I fucking love coffee, my newest habbit is drinking it with jack daniels and irish cream sunday mornings, it always helps to start the day with a kick.

What if you start to crave for that kick during the week, too? And during coffee breaks at work? Not really a serious question, I just love the idea of you being buzzed at work every day, sluring your words and falling a sleep in meetings, but nobody wants to fire you, because you create the most amazing art while being drunk

haha it's just a shot really. But yeah, if you have problems with alcohol (which is not my case) it could become a bad habit pretty quickly.
