I'll fill in my profile with worthless junk when I get the time. -
The fact is, she says a lot of interesting stuff and you end up thinking if YOU aren't the mad afterall

I saw the most wicked documentary I have ever seen last weekend: Estamira
Estamira used to be a regular Brazilian middle-class housewife. She went into a lot of shit during her life (which I’m going into now), making her completely mad at the world. She eventually develops an schizophrenic behavior to scape reality and ends up living in a huge landfill in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Her everyday tasks includes dealing with all sorts of waste, low-lives, rapists, corpses etc… But there’s also a lot of humanity in the wasteland, as you can notice throughout the movie.
The cool thing about this movie is that, even though Estamira is incomprehensible most of the time, she can be very lucid as well. She has her own slangs and always has an interesting theory on everything. Most of the time you find yourself agreeing with her crazy statements about society and the world.
She has given up on God and religion completely and believes she is a superior astral entity. She’s often saying stuff like “I’m better than Jesus and I’m very proud of it”. There’s an interesting moment in the movie in which her grandson asks her why she doesn’t believe in God and the naive question leads to an argument which ends with Estamira asking the boy if “he has God stuck up his ass”.
The documentary has a disturbing post apocalyptic atmosphere, with black and white sequences, good camera positioning and the genius Estamira’s statements about the wicked world we live in.
Anyways, I highly recommend this movie. It’s funny (if you like dark humour), scary and disturbing. I’ll leave you with some brilliant quotes from Estamira:
QuoteDisplay More“Your lucidity won’t let you see the truth”“I’m lucid, aware and concious… sentimentaly”
“There is the eternal, the infinite, there is beyond and there is ‘beyond of the beyond’. You have never seen ‘beyond of the beyond’. No scientist has ever seen ‘beyond of the beyond’.”
“You Know what? Man, after he becomes visible, after he is born, after he disincarnates, if his flesh touches the earth it dissoIves, melts; onIy bones remain, the rays, the hairs. The form remains the same, only transparent, near us. My father is near me, my mother, my friends. See? I can see them. We become transparent and fly away. Just Iike a bird, we fly. I see them often. They visit my house a lot.”
“My mission, besides being Estamira, is to reveal the truth, nothing but the truth.”
“You do not Iearn at school, you copy. You learn with occurrences. My two-year old grandson already knows this. He is two, and has not yet gone to schooI to copy hypocrisies… and charlatan lies. Are you listening?”
“What jesus is this, who only speaks of war and who Knows what else?! Isn’t he himseIf the Punster?”
“Has anyone who ever feIt afraid of saying the truth avoid dying? Have they?
Has anyone who spent day and night, night and day with God in their mouths, mocking him, did they avoid dying?
They who did as they were told by the ones from his gang, have they avoided dying? Have they avoided starving? Have they avoided impoverishment?”

I agree that we should have released a lot earlier... but I'm also pretty confident we have a solid game now and with lots of tweaking it can be even better.
The main problem that I see with the mod community is that devs are too ambitious. If I ever lead a mod I'll define the goals (and estimated deadlines) even before starting the actual work. I'd be realistic. Ok I came up with lots of cool ideas but can I implement them quickly ? Am I even capable of implementing them ?
Mods should be developed in pre-defined stages. Let's say, for the first 2 months we would work on getting a simple working internal alpha (as bugless as possible and with bots included if possible). No problem if we use CS weapons at this stage, but we REALLY need a solid alpha to test our stuff on and eventualy grow from there.
Another golden rule would be to implement simpler features first. Why would I focus on a complex player class system with lots of custumizable shit if I can't even get the basic alpha with CS weapons done ? If something is broken fix it as soon as possible, instead of doing workarounds and moving on to new stuff.
I'd also take many other variables in account. How talented and hard working is my team ? Are they capable of creating what I envisioned ? Do I really need a bigger team ? Big teams can be a nightmare to manage and the wrong newcomers can destroy a mod atmosphere completely.
Another thing that I really hate about the mod community is overhyping. Media coverage is good for you ego but it might distract you from the actual work process. I'm not saying media coverage is bad but you have to be reasonable. Media coverage should be a result of your work and not your main goal.
We made many mistakes with Insurgency but we also matured a lot in the proccess. I trust the INS team completely and I'm pretty sure we could start a new project from scratch and get it done in a matter of months with our built up experience.

Yeah some of them are kinda meh, specialy the digital art ones.
The traditional art tutorials are still good though.

Could see that one coming. Anyway, had a quick butchers through your models and whilst some of the models are lod'ed (?) theres a fair few which arnt. Stuff like 900 poly couches and chairs, 1000 odd polie minaret (theres even one thats nearly 3000), 4000 odd poly mosque tops that have no LoD levels. Some of the high poly vehicles like the Humvee are well done, 6k down to 1.5k but the tanks seem to have been ignored with 2-3k bases and 3k odd turrets with no LoD.
The view models are also pretty high poly, some nearly hitting 10k which is pretty high but still usable so thats probably not too much of a problem, the textures are fairly reasonable, one or two have more than one texture but again nothing major.
Quite alot of the map props have 1024 maps when 512 would probably be good enough.
Yeah I hate to admit it but a few devs paid little attention to optimization. As for texture sizes I avoid using 1024x1024 (unless it's needed) and I encourage my INS fellas to do it (I even rescaled down some props textures to 512).
We are working hard on polishing and optimizing the mod at the moment and I can tell you that it's a lot easier and faster now. I hate to admit it (again) but our tester team pretty much sucked (with a few exceptions of course). Just keep in mind that the mod will get A LOT better now that we are getting GOOD feedback instead of the bland feedback most testers used to give, stuff like: "hehe mod looks nice but I don't like the *insert random weapon here* anims".
I can understand why stepp got so emotional, he completely killed his social life for 3 years, just to work his ass off on INS. He even rebuilt large parts of his map several times.
I also hate it when people only see the flaws and go around saying INS sucks because bla bla bla (I'm looking at you jynxxx
). People forget that this is a COMMUNITY project made during our free times. We are not making any money out of it, so supporting your arguments on just "this feature is better in *insert random commercial game here*" is just a weak and lazy way to do it.I don't expect everyone to enjoy playing our mod but I do expect some respect for our work. We never bullshitted about our community overhyping our mod with non-existent features. Yeah I agree that lots of stuff needs polishing but when CS came out it was totaly rubbish. INS will get better guys. Just keep in mind that it's a beta, it's not a final product.
Keep pumping CONSTRUCTIVE feedback and I can assure you that this mod will only get better.

It looks pretty dated and the name sucks to be honest. Work on your lighting and texture choices.

Damn I love the atmosphere. If only I had DOD:Source

Mikezilla, how much support does the company give to foreign applicants ? I heard it's pretty hard (nearly impossible) to get a work permit for the USA if you got no university degree. Maybe it's possible with company sponsorship ?
