I envy you. I was planning on buying a telescope but there's really no way to see any significant stars in Sao Paulo (too much light pollution + the weather is always cloudy)

Isn't that that Brazilian cyberpunk city where everyone lives in skyscrapers and travels by helicopter?

Yep. There's one neighbourhood here which has more helipads on top of buildings than bus stops on its streets

happened to me a few times too. luckily the server history stays intact so you're not completely shit out of luck. since you haven't connected to any 1.6 servers before seems that you are

Yep. I always use server history, cause it only refreshes the servers that really matters to me.

Steam has been really crappy and unstable since the UI update... damn mac people [Blocked Image: https://migrationtest.mapcore.org/public/style_emoticons/default/mapcore_smilies/emot_shakehead.gif]

Save up and buy a plane ticket for next summer and you can come up here and watch the stars with me

Cool! Count me in if we can also take LSD and see double rainbows

Alright I'll stop polluting the WIP thread and post updates here from now on. Feedback has been really useful so far, so keep it up guys!

Progress on this scene can be seen on this polycount thread for those interested.

Tonight's lighting test: Still a long way to go but I'm starting to like it.

    [Blocked Image: http://www.thiagoklafke.com/misc/temp/scifi_udkwip08.jpg]

I also made another tests with different light colors. I think I'll post them tomorrow (they are rendered with preview quality atm which looks like shit).

Looking really nice Mino! One thing though, on a LD topic, are you planing on doing more with the lower half, say around the doors? Right now there is to much visual noise going on up top and nothing really interesting down below to help guide the player.

That's true man. I really have no gameplay planned for this, it is for portfolio purposes only. I once considered making this a DM map but that then I'd never finish it...

    Check this cool video: http://www.lmsal.com/%7Eschryver/Public ... 9_305s.mov

A blast of violent space weather could hit the Earth tomorrow following two massive explosions on the Sun. NASA astronomers witnessed a huge flare above a giant sunspot the size of our planet and linked to an even larger eruption across the surface of Sun.

Maybe you scandinavian guys will be able to see something? That would be cool!

I'll post this here too Just wanted to say I added a Photoshop Actions file to the bottom of the material tutorial index page: http://www.philipk.net/tutorials/materi ... rials.html

Or if you like you can get it here:

    http://philipk.net/tutorials/materials/ ... ctions.atn

The action package file contains these actions:

    - Normal map overlay fix with the blue channel preserved

    - Normal map overlay fix with the blue channel killed

    - Flatten to new layer

    - Normalize

    - Sharpen

There are two different normal map overlay actions, the one where the blue channel of the normal map is preserved gives you the most correct result mathematically, however it is a bit harder to work with since it requires two layers with different blending modes. I only use this for normal map overlay layers that have a lot of depth in them, and I usually even just mask out such details and use the "Normal" blending mode instead.

The other one kills the blue channel (50% gray bucket fill), this is no problem to use on subtle normal map overlay layers as they hardly contain any visible blue channel information anyway, and these are the details you usually want to overlay anyhow.

    Display More

ohh very nice, the normal map overlay ones are pretty useful! Thanks again.

Great suggestions dudes, thanks for the paintovers. I love to see ther people's approach on the same problems I have.

As for the lighting I'll stick to pale light tones only and let the sun light do the majority of the work. The colored lights don't really work at all at the moment. I'll let colored light to small accent lights only, like small computer screens and signs.

A new update on my scene after so much time! I changed the theme of this to sci-fi apartment complex because I think it fits better the props I have in mind for this.

Please excuse me for the horrible screenshot quality. I just can't get tiledshot to work inside UED (I can't run my map on play mode for some reason). Tiledshot looks like this for me:http://%7Boption%7D[Blocked Image: http://www.thiagoklafke.com/misc/temp/scifi_udkwip_tiledshot_Error.jpg] Has anyone any idea on how to fix that?

I was about to go "Oh god linkin park?" but it was actually really good!

Environment art in this game looks pretty good but I just don't have patience anymore for this kind of game. I'll probably go to a friend's house and watch him play the game to check out the art but that's it!

Finally got around to playing Alan Wake. Played the first episode (playing it on hard as you guys recommended) and I gotta say that I love what I've seen so far. I turned off all lights on my room, cranked up the volume and man... this game is so immersive! I love the music and the tv/radio shows and all the attention Remedy gives to little details. It's stuff like that that make their games so immersive imo.

I know I haven't played much yet but it's far better than what I was expecting. Oh and Roy Orbison <3

It looks great but it seems like a huge amount of work for a simple prop. I dunno how much time people in the industry people usually have to make such a prop but I believe that with proper planning you could achieve the same result by trying to predict the final uv layout, model the HP on a 1x1 area, project the normals and AO to a plane and then mapping it on a simple mesh afterwards. Kind of what PhilipK does here. Not sure if that makes sense, I'm kinda slow today.

Of course that is only valid for simple shapes like this barrel and if you are in a hurry
