Goal Proposition: Make mapcore more proffesional and friendly to new people.

    how would you measure that?

key to defining a goal is to have a way of measuring it. not saying this is a bad goal, but what evidence could you say is a measure of "more professional and friendly to new people."

(seroiusly, that is a good idea, just want to know your initial thoughts on how you'd measure that so this gets more concrete)

    please God, no.

Something tells me Valve and ...whoever makes MGS... should be smarterer than that to let him get the rights to some of the biggest bestest games everarr.

I don't see the point in sports games, it's all about what you can't do in real life for me so playing football on a console game just seems pointless when you can just go down the park and play for real...

true...but many people do see the point of sports games because in reality, can you easily go play football for your favorite NFL team? Or football (a.k.a. Soccer) for your favorite football team? Maybe...but are you really likely to do that? You can become a NASCAR driver, but is that realistic? Are you? It's a lot easier (and safer) to buy some video game and try to live out such fantasies that way. Given the popularity of sports games, a lot of people see the point.

Personally, I don't really see the point much either. Maybe football and snowboarding games...

Well I am going to fix up the spotlight forums and definately get things back up and running. We had a discussion about this a long time ago but the threads sort of died (checked the two global announcements)

Yes indeed. Really it comes down to 1 thing: goals. If we are clear on our goals for mapcore, we are much more likely to accomplish something.

i personally believe all the bad movies based on video games are failures of will: the movie makers simply did not have the will to make a good movie, for whatever reason. As this thread reveals, it seems very likely that Uwe Boll actively has the will to create bad movies.

Someday, someone is going to make a movie based on a video game and it is going to be awesome.

Remember the old Saturday Night Live skits when George Whendtdttddtd (spelling?) would guest star? It would be all about the Chicago local sports fans talking about how great the Bulls and the Bears were?

    "Daaaa Bears" and such?

They'd talk about how good the Bears were versus any other team...then they'd talk about stupid match ups.

"Okay...the 85 bears vs. the 89 AFC pro bowl team?" "Daaaaa Bears."

"Okay...85 bears vs. 89 AFC pro bowl team coached by Ditka's second cousin?" "Daaaa Bears"

"Okay...85 bears vs. 89 AFC pro bowl team coached by Ditka, but Ditka can't talk and he's blindfolded." ........................."Oh that's a tough one...I gotta give it to the bears."

"Okay...85 bears vs. 89 AFC pro bowl team...except the AFC's defensive line is made up of 4 Ditka's" .............................."I don't know...gotta give that to the Ditka's" ..... "I still say bears."

"Okay...85 bears vs. 89 AFC pro bowl team with but the AFC defensive line is made up of mini-Ditka's and Ditka is their coach, he's blindfolded but this time he can talk." .........................

Much like the United States, the Empire is not well suited to fighting guerilla warfare. And that was only one skirmish. If there was full on Empire vs Ewoks, there would be no Yub nub, eee chop yub nub, toe meet toe pee chee keene, g'noop dock fling oh ah singing. Ewoks would get f'ing smoked.

We left out a few major components of the analysis...

    Information and Communications

If you think about it, this one aspect would put the Empire over the Nazis a million times over. Sure, Nazis had radios, and maybe even crude radar systems, but the Empire has all those sensors and communications systems and holograms of mini Darth Vader etc... that should make it no contest because Empire will always be ahead of the Germans.

    Logistics and Supplies

Do you think the Russian winter would have stopped the empire's advance on the eastern front? Shya riigght. Further, it's really easy to resupply troops (and evacuate) with flying ships that don't need runways. Nazi's had no helicopters, and bad terrain would severly impeed progress when trying to take land.

Return to the Fire Power Debate

Empire has bombardment from Star Destroyers. Ok...Hanz Fleldler is in a Panzer tank on Earth while Darth Vader is on the bridge of his flagship. They decide to get in a fight. Who wins?

Is this really a serious discussion anymore? How about let's debate who would win in a war? The Nazis or the army of Undead from Simpsons Treehouse of Horrors II? (er was it III or IV?...er whatever?)

    Still...good topic.

    You make some valid points...

but Empire's air power would kick the crap out the Nazi's and win much of the war. Once the Luftwaffe is destroyed, the aireal bombbardment from the star destroyers and all the Tie bombers would destroy the Panzer divisions, all the factories and all of Hitler's war machine in a matter of weeks, and that's if they took their time.

    End of discussion.

These days you need a license for everything except having kids... interesting...

i think people should have to pass a test before having kids...

...but obviously that would not be well received given how such a test would be abused, and how it is basically a threat against very basic reproductive rights.

Don't you love how this Chocolate Milk kid thing has evolved into a discussion about parenting etc...

one way to say it is "why was this kid ever born?"

Man...imagine you are this kid, and you are on 60 Minutes and Mike Wallace shows you the video of the recording and you are forced to listen to yourself act like a jerk. What do you say to that when Mike Wallace's follow up question is "So...........some poeple are suggesting that you probably should never have been born in the first place......"

it's the moral degredation of todays society. The 10 commandments were taken out of court rooms, God was removed from the pledge of allegiance, and the pledge is almost never spoken any more. Truth no longer exists and there is no God. What do you think will happen when we take out moral standards and truth? It's chocolate-milk boy.

mabye...though i think the specific problem in this case is bad parenting. 99 times out of 100 kids end up that misbehaved due to some kind of early childhood abuse/trama/divorce/parental-use-of-drugs/etc

Look, I love living in America, and personally, I hope to help change it for the better in the long run. It's going to be a long, slow effort, but I will.

Anyway...one thing you need to understand, this country was founded for the sole purpose of freedom: economic/religious/personal freedom.

But what was the intended meaning of freedom? It was the freedom for people to pursue economic gain by any means they see fit. But of course this was based on the many many decades of precedent of how people made money and expressed their economic freedom at the time (1776). What was that precedent?

    Slavery.

So America, the new land of the free in the year 1776, was actually the land of slavery. Thinking from there, is it any wonder America is the way that it is? Today we're sort of victims of our past. So if there really is a consipracy about JFK's assassination, I wouldn't be suprised. Why?

Because this is a country that was founded on freedom, yet practiced slavery. It is a country that would do anything to protect its interests. Anything. Enslave people from another continent...wipeout the indigenious population...assassinate its own president if needed.

Yet at the same time, it is a country trying to improve itself. Despite all the crap we hate about America, there are great Americans trying to clean up the bullshit and stop the fraud, the corporate mal-practice, the scandals...there are good people who believe that the right kind of capitalism can save us all.

    I am one of them.
