yeah Unreal engine licensing has been by far the most succesful historically. Had HL1 and HL2 not been as successful as products as they were, then HL1 / Source licensing would have been severely limited.

Very impressive guys...very impressive. I wanna do consulting work at Gearbox now. :)

Just look at the article you posted in your first post; there's like two paragraphs of writing from Nintendo explaining it. xD

    http://revolution.nintendo.com/

Yeah I get it...I get the whole branding concept behind it. Right now because it's new it's like hearing "Xbox360" for the first time. But in the coming months we're going to see the brand campaign to support it, just like Microsoft did last year with the 360 between E3 and launch.

"Wii" is somewhat of an abstract reach, like many brands concepts, but for it to be successful they are going to need drive home the concept of the console being a bigger experience than it inherently is...and back it up with great launch content.

Microsoft had the market in the palm of its hands, but because the launch lineup was relatively weak, they sort of blew it outside the hardcore, not to mention the shortages.

I really hope Nintendo follows it's own path and doesn't do this bullshit hardware shortage to drive up hype and their own egos. If it has good new games and lots of casual games or older games to download they could pull of the console comback for the ages.

Every core gamer who's loved Nintendo is wanting it. I really hope they have a good showing at E3 this year.

    Xbox360's code name was Xenon.

"Xenon" > "Xbox360", but obviously they wanted to keep "Xbox" in the name and not simply call it "Xbox2" because Sony uses the idea of PS1, PS2, PS3, etc...

The other thing about "360" is that Microsoft wanted a more "mass market" console that was "softer" (i.e. more appealing to non hardcore gamers as the Xbox rep was that it was a core gamer platform). So Xbox360 has more egglike and rounded or soft edges on the actual machine, in the logos, in the operating system, in the Microsoft advertising, in the accessories... But it still has "Xbox" in the name so that immediately reminds of us of its "hardcore" roots. So jam them together for "Xbox360" and you have a mass market console that still appeals to the hardcore.

"Xbox360, hardcore for the grognards, yet accessible to the masses."

    Now...someone explain "Wii".

Last I heard, EA is their publisher at the moment, so EA would handle all non-steam releases for anything until the contract is dropped/expired.

Well that's my point. Is Valve going to be happy with EA continuing to do that? I just think in the long run Valve might be happier being their own publisher...

Hard to speculate on what Valve is going to do. All we know is it's going to be Source based games...which could mean anything. The real issue for X360 is that there is no Steam delivery system. Sure, there is Xbox Live Arcade, but for full games? How big? A big X360 demo might be around a gig. Would they port DoD:S to 360 and sell via Xbox Market place?

----> Where I'm going is the following: is Valve going to start cranking out Xbox360 DVD based games? Who's going to publish? EA? VUGames? Microsoft? Could Valve self-publish console games? I'm very curious where this goes.

    my own company...omg yes!

or form a company with the mapcorians...

    MapCore Studios?

Think about it. We have plenty of pro/mod/talented:

    - level designers

    - 2D artists

    - 3D artists

    - animators

    - writing talent

    - game designers

    - we could swing voice talent between us

    - I've got lots of evil empire publisher background and technical project management experience

    - up and coming biz/marketing people here.

    - Fletch

    All we need is:

    - money

    - an idea

    - everyone in the same place

    - time

ugh!!! why do I highlight such hidden text!!!

I'm affraid this will have to go on my Netflix list once it comes out on DVD.

It got a 24% on Rotten Tomatoes, which means for a video game movie it may actually be entertaining.

Funny, in all the years of martial arts i've studied we've always advocated a few rules:

    1) Always have an escape plan

    2) If someone comes looking for a fight, don't be suprised if they are concealing a weapon.

    3) If a group comes looking for a fight, and you are alone, always run. Otherwise your family will end up indentifying your body later.

    4) If a group comes looking for a fight, and you are in a group, it all depends on the dynamics and group sizes. However, group on group battle is more likely to lead to a mob riot mentality and some serious shit can happen. Do you want to go down that path?

In your situation, the best thing would be to run, else do a preemptive strike as Fletch suggests but you gotta have the balls to really go through with it. If you can't stomach it, don't bother...talk your way out like a pussy and get out of there, using skateboards etc as best you can.

Wow, keep em coming. Seriously, if you can find any more examples of other games, please post. More retail products the better. And should you find it in a console game, find a way to post a pic here if you can. post them all and by the end we can probably find something fun to do with it.
