ohshi, vampire has a hacked version of vrad that calculates shadows from models per polygon, whereas valve's only calculates lightmaps based off the model's collision geometry.

i'm trying to make a cool moving cloud shader. To give the illusion of the clouds changing shapes, i though it might be cool to have an alpha map that scrolls abit slower than the basetexture. Is this possible? I'm sure ive saw sth similar in source on the force fields. But i have no idea how to do that ;p

the info on the shaders is quite poor imo

yes, you have to use proxies. I hope you know trig.

what happened to triggering dynamic terrain like in the e3 movie?

there is a terrain deforming entitiy that you can place and have the terrain around it get pushed or pulled in a certain radius around the entitiy. That being said, it's obviously not dynamic.

I made this matte background out of a stock panoramic photograph for use ina quicktime vr demo. The psd was over 200 megs and about a hundred layers. It was also twice the resolution but I made it smaller so that it was web-viewable. It was a pretty quick project I did over the course of a few days.

There is a difference though, SA is a one stop huge general forum that has no emphasis in any one thing, besides maybe image macros and catchphrases. Mapcore has an emphasis on GAMES. A lot of people seem to forget that. As soon as you try and make mapcore into something general and lose that focus, then the purpose of mapcore has evaporated.

the camera shows anything, and you can parent it to anything. You could parent it to a barrel, and create the BARRELCAM and get dizzy watching it rolls down a ramp from the barrels point of view. All it does it render the scene to a texture. Thus is expeinse too, it you have a camera in a different part of the map, it has to render that part as well as the part you are in.

my favorite parts are the ones where they state that near the end of the project the tools were finally becoming useable. not like that would keep them from liscencing the engine out still. *cough*
