the only dynamic shadows you can get are from physics and dynamic props and are stencil shadows. There are no dynamic shadows cast from bsp geometry.

    - the light beams are just part of the fans model geometry.

    - it's a decal

    - it's a proxy glow, straight from hl2. It's a conical glow that billboards, and when you move up next to it it fades to a normal circular glow sprite.

looks interesting, definetly unique. Usually deathmatch maps utilize more vertical variation, to make the maps more fun than "run into enemy in hallway, shoot untill dead." My advice would be to add the second floor, as well as some areas that are open to both floors at once, (like a balcony from the second floor overlooking a lobby from the first floor) to get some more interesting gameplay going on. Also, the tile floor texture looks kind of outdoorish for an office interior. Lots of props will also help.

that just sounds like bad planning to me. If you channel everything through a concept artist and designer, then those problems don't happen.

Having a dedicated designer and a dedicated artist is going to yield the most solid and polished looking result, just look at HL2. This is provided that you have a solid plan for production and concept art and such. The way we did it on bloodlines (one person responsible for entire level) was neccesary becuase of our development structure, which was not as robust or streamlined as the process at Valve.

Thats actually Pinchy the second. He's a crawdad. He is the second one that tim cain found in the gutter on a walk by the office. The first one was found dead in an office down the hall, after somehow escaping his glass prison. His death was "suspicious".
