This has been the lunchtime activity for our team's designers for the last few weeks, though I'm sorely behind (I keep letting checking my WoW auctions distract me )Will have to check these out

mojo tells me it's the same at gbx.

the vehicle physics seem great to me, but I haven't ever been into gran tourismo or any real racing sim so I don't really have a frame of reference. I don't think realistic physics would work on these kinds of tracks anyway though.

there seems to be two kinds of tracks that people make, insane stunt tracks that are more like a puzzle to figure out how to get through, and real racing tracks where you are fighting to get the best time.

free download, make your own track and race for the top times against other people on the net. The track editor is simple yet pretty flexible once you grasp all the pieces you have available and how they fit together. It's a pretty good racer to boot, the car physics are more than adequate and the gfx are quite nice if you have a high end nvidia card.

here are the couple of tracks I have stayed up late making the last two nights

woot I start next week at http://www.sandcastlegames.com/ a mobile developer. My brother is working there right now so it should be a blast to work on games with him, and it should be a nice change of pace from what I am used to. It seems like a really cool small company which is the way I like em.

and I'm finally a senior artist! yay!

sup cdxx, you in the industry?

I'm not looking to move out of San Diego for now, and so far it looks like I wont have to. I just got back here seems like, I'm not too eager to move my whole life again.

    already looking better sonic.

I would suggest using a blend texture to smooth the transisiton from walkway to grass, it's a bit harsh. Also, the bridge is looking much improved.

This bridge dosen't work. The texture dosen't work with the structure of the bridge. It dosen't seem like you could build something like that out of concrete.

    [Blocked Image: http://www.sonicdm.cs-irc.com/mapping/de_something/de_something_b50007.jpg]

the wall of this building is too plain, everything is too horizontal. There needs to be some pipes or architecture thats vertical to break it up. Put some concrete around the door, and dress it up with a railing or something - the light above is a good start. Maybe some signage. Doors don't ever usually open up right to grass / dirt.

The arched opening for the truck does not work, it's in stark contrast to the way the wall texture flows. create some accent geometry that follow the arch to cover the sheer dropoff, or make it a square opening with a rolly door or something.

    [Blocked Image: http://www.sonicdm.cs-irc.com/mapping/de_something/de_something_b60003.jpg]

same thing on this arch, horizontal textures just don't drop off to form the top of an arch.

    [Blocked Image: http://www.sonicdm.cs-irc.com/mapping/de_something/de_something_b60004.jpg]

the gray in this section is overwhelming. The duplicate texture and geometry on either side off the walkway is too much here. Also the texture you use for the trim on the side of the walk does not seam up the the edges of the geometry. As someone mentioned, the line from the tops of the buildings to the sky could use some spicing up.

    [Blocked Image: http://www.sonicdm.cs-irc.com/mapping/de_something/de_something_b60005.jpg]

this shot is great, there is enough going on to seem interesting to the eye. The wall on the left needs some vertical details.

    [Blocked Image: http://www.sonicdm.cs-irc.com/mapping/de_something/de_something_b60007.jpg]

put in a walkway or paint in a blend texture to signify a walkway here

    [Blocked Image: http://www.sonicdm.cs-irc.com/mapping/de_something/de_something_b60014.jpg]

the lighting here is sex. add some props on the floor.

    [Blocked Image: http://www.sonicdm.cs-irc.com/mapping/de_something/de_something_b80002.jpg]

sexy wall. make all your walls this interesting.

    [Blocked Image: http://www.sonicdm.cs-irc.com/mapping/de_something/de_something_b80003.jpg]

props are lookin good, add something on the cieling for those light wires to hook into, another metal bar or some decals maybe.

    [Blocked Image: http://www.sonicdm.cs-irc.com/mapping/de_something/de_something_b80007.jpg]

    *fap*

this is your best shot in terms of the line between structure and sky being interesting. Lots of interesting angles. Add some concrete around the door and a walkway / path blend to the grass

I like the ambiance, there are plenty of details in each room to keep things visually interesting.

    [Blocked Image: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v285/generalvivi/tmp_lodge9.jpg]

is the hole in the wall of this shot made out of brushes? It's very square and "strippy" If it's brushes I would vert tweak a lot of the edges to make it seem more natural, or for better performance make it a model or an alphaed texture. Also, the rosy flowers in the destroyed dirty room kinds of detracts from the vibe there.

    [Blocked Image: http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a300/GeneralviviPortfolio/textures/tmp_wallpaper-flat.jpg]

in this texture I think the wood appears much more weathered than the wallpaper on top. I would suggest either making the wood cleaner, or making the top portion dirtier to match the wood. Also I think some slight vertical gradiation would help make the wall seem a little danker. You can see where the horizontal border pieces tile, but I doubt the average person would give it any notice.

    Quote from Lurker

magnitude of human rights violations, well by that reasoning, the US really are liberators because there was a despot named Saddam Hussien who killed his own people, or has everyone forgotten about him aswell?

Has everyone forgotten that the US military is dropping bombs with depleted uranium tips, sickening not only their own soldiers but a huge segment of the innocent Iraqi population? Has everyone forgotten that the US dropped atomic bombs in the Nevada desert whose effects spread over densily populated areas?

It's so easy to point fingers and say the other is worse. The United States really needs to clean its own closet before it forcibly cleans other's. Oh, and using Hussein's human rights violations as a reason for going to war doesn't work either. Genocides have occured in Sudan and Rwanda recently, much more recent and much more devastating than the Iraqi massacres. I wonder where their Knight in Shining Armor is... you already invaded Iraq once after the gasing of the Kurds, why didn't you deal with it then? Right, because the United States only cares about human rights violations when it serves their policy (kinda like their intelligence... funny).

Depleted uranium is not health threateningly radio-active . . . hence the term depleted. It has already expended all it's radiation.

Thats all a myth that someone assumed since they know uranium must be bad and know nothing about physics, but it's just gotta be bad becuase it's a buzzword and soon it's a movement even though nobody tried to look up the real facts. There is more background radiation from minerals in the ground than there is in depleted uranium.

Where do you think they would store all these rounds if they were able to make people so sick? In a giant concrete bunker? Whats shielding the people loading the rounds or the people in the tanks/planes where they rounds are loaded?

People are so fast to tack on these "facts" that fit thier arguments so well without ever reading proof that they are in fact true. In fact there have been several papers published about the non-effects of depleted uranium that I could go look for if anybody is really that interested in it.

Torture will only get you the answers they think you want, since they will say anything they think will get you to stop.

I don't believe it's a reliable method of obtaining intelligence.

The first thing anyone should suggest to someone interested in game development is to seek out these kinds of communites. That way you don't have to shoot down thier dreams by telling them they have no talent, you can let hunderds of anonymous people from the internet tell him.
