anyway I just did the art so I don't mind in particular what people think of the actual game. Though just in my opinion it has just as much strategy as many other card games. There is a lot of instances where you have to decide wether or not to ditch certain players in order to try and get certain teams in combo positions, and a lot of figuring out if you would get more points for giving up a bonus or having one more guy on the same team during the final lineup. If you play smart and get a little lucky you can usually pull around 100,000 point games, and the highest I have seen so far is 280,000. I could get 45,000 just randomly clicking guys. The key is to get guys that are on the same team, not getting guys with the highest number of points by themselves.

thanks guys! did you read the hints that pop up bic? It's a little more complicated than that. You get bonuses for having players from the same team, and also bonuses for having guy from the same team in certain position combos (1st-3rd, pitcher-catcher, all outfield, etc.) Those injury cards can ruin your day for sure, once I even got two in a row in the 9th. If anyone else has a 30 inch dell I have a 2560x1600 wallpaper I didn't bother putting on the site

Looks pretty good Zap, must be quite rewarding to do pretty much everything graphics related yourself, a real sense of ownership you down get often on big productions.

It is pretty rewarding. Its fun to have to come up with solutions for things you haven't ever had to do before. And you can feel pretty confident in claiming the game to be "yours" even if the game isn't as big name as some other game you did 134 floor tile textures for.

This isn't the sort of thing you would usually see in this forum, but it's my work and I'm gonna show it off dammit. The company I work for just got this casual game out, I did every ounce of art for the game, from the intro motion graphics to the menus and logo to the actual game itself. It was a really neat exercise in wearing different hats.

here is the product page for it on the site I also designed (it's not actually linked from the site thats up since we haven't officially put it up yet)

    http://www.sandcastlegames.com/shuffle.html

The game itself is akin to playing draw poker with baseball cards, and scoring it pinball style with lots of points and bonuses and combos. Since it is marketed towards casual gamers and baseball fans in general, I'm not sure how many people here would really get a kick out of it, but I play it a lot and it is pretty addicting. It's as fun as many other card/matching games out there, especially if you are a baseball fan in any way.

You can download the trial here

if you feel like actually giving it a shot, it works as the full game for 30 minutes before prompting you to toss down a jackson.

my immediate impression from looking at screens is that the map is wayyyy to bright. I thought it was fullbright untill I saw a stray shadow somewhere. The lighting needs a lot of work, you should be able to tell where the light is coming from and create some depth with shadows.

I think that there are plenty of tools to take drafts and blueprints from something like auto-cad and slap them into a kick ass renderer and spit out something realistic and nice. The issue is though that there isn't anything that I know of to turn those into a real-time, walk-around actual environment. Thats where game engines would fill the gap.

I think a lot of it rings true, however it does vary depending on the kind of company you are a part of. Everyone starts out wanting to work on games for the love of it (well, everyone here at least) but eventually you come to realize that it does not mesh well (in the majority of cases) when you have to make games as a bussiness.

Find work at a soul-less globo-corp to get into the biz, then find a small shop with nice people and you will appreciate it much better. Sure you might have to find a new job every few years as each one closes down but it's worth it to me

google is developing this little 3d modeling app to create structures to put into google earth. It's a pretty neat little program based on the tutorials I watched here http://%7boption%7d

this looks like it would be a great tool for quickly mocking up things in 3d, it would be radical if there was some kind of export to some common 3d format as well.

I haven't heard of this game before which isn't surprising since I don't keep up with whats coming up much any more - but I was just browsing through the screenshots for this game and I was "happy-pantsed"

down with flash websites but check out the screenshots, some of the environments are down right juicy and crammed full of character. It's like heart of darkness meets flight of the pheonix.

It's refreshing to see an adventure game like this that looks so great when every great looking screenshot you see nowadays is bump mapped with sparks freeze-framed in the middle of a firefight / car crash. It's a fresh setting that is invigorating to look at copared to all the sci-fi / modern combat / gta / ww2 games we always see.
