great thread, we are having a lan party Friday and this gives us some ideas. We usually end up playing TF2 and a bunch of war3 maps.

I've been doing that today, and animating him - I think he looks a lot better than the old guy at least.

rigging and animating is such a hassle . . . I'm starting to learn the things you can and can't do to not screw things up in the process.

I'm going to chime in with some of the other people here and advise you to hold on to your special game ideas always. The moment you share your idea with a company or anyone else that might have an even slightly different motive for wanting to make a game like yours, it is gone - and it will never be yours again.

If you really, really, have a burning desire to see something specific of yours made, just start making it any way you can. Keep working on it until such a time as you have built something you think is strong enough to survive outside influence, or simply build it yourself with other like-minded people.

Just remember that no company or person who's livelihood is based on selling games will ever share the same personal motivation you might have to make your game. Don't ever go to a company unless you are ok with making their games and not your own.

I will concede it is probably too strong, it's so easy to overdo things when you are first excited to start playing with them

    It's directx and opengl.

I'm working on a new character model right now, hopefully I will have another update soon.

no, there is actually no lighting being done on the scene, so a normal map wouldn't do much unless we decided to add lighting into the calculation. Right now everything is baked vertex colors for speed.

    alternative video download possibility please

    ?

does that vimeo thing not work? A flash video is the last thing I thought anyone would have a problem with.

I'm working on making a rim lighting video with spaghetti west, I think it's going to look a lot more noticeable than the shill mountain one.

What I don't like about steam, is being dependant on steam to be able to play your games. Even on the games that have non-steam counterparts. It's silly. And it often means you can't play it when the steam servers are down :/

I suppose the other side of the coin is that if you scratch your disc you can't ever play again until the end of time no matter what.

At least if I have an issue with steam I probably have some avenue of resolution besides buying the game over again.
