i realized how badly i need a laptop. when suggesting one think "school" laptop. im mostly gonna use it for wifi around my house and at some local hotspots.

    key features im looking for:

    1. light - under 5 lbs, slim and solid body. (no shitty plastic shit)

    2. great battery life - at LEAST 5 hours while doing things like going on the internet, typing papers, stuff like that

    3. cheap - under $1000 is almost the only requirement im not willing to flex on.

    4. built in wi-fi...centrino is preference - mobility is key for me

    5. perty - i love the ibook....so im thinking that kind of style, though it could be something completely different, you all have decent taste, so suprise me.

    6. im not going to be using this to play music or anything like that (this is why i have an ipod) so high quality sound isnt on the top of my list either.

    7. a large hard drive would be nice...but isnt neccesary...the same goes for memory, around 512 mb if possible.

    what i dont need:

    1. TO GAME, i dont care if it has onboard video...i dont need some 18 lbs alienware laptop...i have a desktop computer for a reason ;\

also any really nice laptop backpacks would be cool too. it would be nice if it looked just as snazzy as the laptop im going to buy. im not really that big on laptops so i dont know where to start looking since i only know the high end ones (voodoo, alienware, that other really expensive company forgot the name).

new benchmarks released by hardocp/nvidia were released today and its showing that the 6800 "regular" beat out the optimized x800 xt-pe (the suffix's are getting retarded) by about 20%. I would take the results with a grain of salt though considering you're getting your facts from the company that is being paid by nvidia to promote it. then again...many people all along have been saying the 6800 will be and is the card that will win back nvidia the lead in the enthusiasts eyes (much like when the 9700 stole the lead from nvidia when it was against the geforce 4 ti4600).

personally, i wouldnt base my purchase on this because theres really no way you could refute the results, since the game isnt public. i dont think hardocp would put their reputation on the line by releasing false results either though....so its kind of up in the air

    http://www2.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjQyLDU=

no matter what decision you make, im sure both cards will far surpass your expectations as far as performance is concerned....but it might be another case of 9700 pro vs ti 4600 in the long run :\

(edit: if its an overall review of pretty much every graphics card you've ever heard of then toms hardware has answered your prayers - http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphi ... index.html - .....of course the latest and greatest arent listed here, but its a crazily great reference for everything from pretty much the last 4 years)

i dunno....i think things can be as complex as you would like to make them

it all depends on the tools made for people to interface editing with. im sure something like hammer could have been made where it was just as labor intensive and tedious as making a map in notepad, but it just so happens its not. sort of like the wc3 thing you're talking about.....im sure with enough incentive and refinement, someone could have easily made a pretty button to do what 30 lines of manually typed script can do.

^^ thats a pretty obvious conclusion...but anything thats a pain in the ass to do and has a large fan base usually is turned into a workable "my grandmother could be a level designer" interface
