It isn't doing badly, but it isn't exactly flying off the shelves either. Maybe it's a bit unfair to compare it with Gears of War 2, since that's a sequel and can leverage from the success of the first game, but it has been out for roughly the same time and surpassed the 3 million mark. That doesn't even include Japan, where LBP is being sold, it is selling more in North America than LBP worldwide. It has to do with the install base too of course and maybe I'm comparing apples and oranges here, but considering the importance that has been given to each title, in terms of marketing money etc. I think it has some merit.

I guess LBP will have a lot higher numbers, atleast here in Norway LTB is 24/7 on the telly, and it looks like a "kids" game, so probably a lot of parents will buy it for their kids with a PS3.

Maybe that is exactly the problem - because I think parents will rather get their kids a Wii or DS instead, whereas the broader, more mature audience finds appeal in racing and shooting games, of which there are plenty to choose from on the 360. Again, it isn't doing badly and will definitely sell plenty of more copies during its lifetime...but is it a system seller?

About Resistance, Motorstorm etc.: Of course those were launch titles, but as I mentioned, the Motorstorm sequel is on its way to surpass LBP sales and that has been released a few weeks ago. Let's wait and see if Resistance 2 will do the same

I couldn't tell you off hand st0lve (would have to delve into VGChartz)(...)

Lucky for you st0lve, I'm a sucker for these things and compiled sales numbers of some PS3 exclusives for comparison (courtesy of vgchartz):

    Motorstorm: 3.7m (worldwide)

Motorstorm - Pacific Rift: 0.35m according to VGchartz BUT according to the development studio, it has already passed the 1 million units mark, so there is an obvious discrepancy there (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/m ... lion-sales).

    Resistance: 3.35m

    Resistance 2: 0.72m

    MGS4: 3.63m

    Lair : 0.37m (excluding Europe)

    Heavenly Sword: 1.3m

    Warhawk: 0.47m

    Ratchet and Clank 5: 1.47m

    Gran Turismo 5 - Prologue: 2.45m

    Littlebigplanet: 1.1m

lol watch the movie ultraviolet pretty much mirrors edge

haha funny that you say it, it was on German TV last night (free tv premiere) and all I could think was "this looks totally like mirror's edge" all the time...aside from "this movie is ridiculous but that tight suit sure looks good on Mila Jovovich!"

That map is looking bloody splendid by the way!

You can get an international permit in addition to your American driver's license and that will allow you to drive in Europe AFAIK (better google if this applies to all EU countries). Nevertheless I recommend to take public transportation, especially when it's your first time to Europe. I don't know where you are originally from, but driving through Plano Texas is a rather different experience from driving through...Paris for instance There are also a few different rules and driving through England, well, that's a completely different story.. Public transportation within and between cities is usually pretty good, but I think it would be best to look for advice from Northern Americans who have been to Europe before, as us Europeans could be either biased or consider certain things as completely normal, whereas Americans might be surprised. Natives often have a different take on such topics than tourists

Kudos to EA for expanding their EAP program and keeping on investing into new innovative IPs and independent developers. Especially now that it turns out certain titles underperformed and restructuring measures have been announced. Maybe the deal with Double Fine was signed already months ago? Anyway, Tim Schäfer should be happy!

Brand new, 4-player Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fighting game heading to Wii - select Super Smash Bros. Brawl/former Team Ninja staffers developing!

    http://gonintendo.com/?p=65881

This got me REALLY excited this morning, but from the info that is available it seems to take the beat'em up route à la Smash Bros and not the co-op "fight your way through dozens of stages" gameplay that my friends and me enjoyed so much in the Turtles games on NES and SNES!

Still the idea of a turtles game that focuses on beating the crap out of each other sounds promising! To be honest I'm not sure if Ubisoft is the best partner for this one, but Super Smash Bros. Brawl & former Team ninja staff gives me hope!

  • Epic Ford Fiesta Review on Top Gear

    • December 10, 2008 at 1:06 PM

hehe epic indeed, to the point of silliness almost

By the way: Is this kind of review typical for Top Gear? Is there an insider gag related to Ford Fiestas that I'm not aware of or do you think they just wanted to go overboard with this one at the end of the year? I'm asking because I got the suspicion that Ford cooperated with them on this ad, on an organizational or financial level, since this kind of review makes for a great viral ad (as you can see)...and to be honest, this wasn't really a "review" now was it?

This has always been a mystery to me. I mean, it has to be the biggest false hood going, the fact that you can't in any way know who's going to play your game. You can throw data around, but in the end there's no real way of telling. It all seems like such a trifle.

So you are saying nobody can tell what audience is going to play "My pony farm" and what consumers "Left4Dead"? Of course a certain grade of guessing is always involved, but you can usually get a pretty clear picture and for the tough ones, there is always a plethora of instruments from market research to choose from.
