long time no updates, I am in the middle of making a map to test out a new gameplay mode that will basically just trying to be the first to get from start to end, with checkpoints along the way to save the progress you have made should you fall off.[Blocked Image: http://myzerogear.com/spacejumpvid.jpg]
In other happenings, I just moved into some new office space with my brother eeenmachine. I'm looking forward to having a nice quiet place to work on Zero Gear!
Nice Benz, yours?

...interestingly enough this is also what Microsoft says and while the hyenas fight over the scraps, Nintendo feasts itself on a big, juicy chunk of expanded audience. Blue Ocean strategy at its best, Kaz Hirai should sit down and take notes instead of just running his mouth again.
as is the case with most if not all business people...
...what?

It's difficult to talk about Nintendo, because we don't look at their console as being a competitor. They're a different world, and we operate in our world - that's the kind of way I look at things.

Getting a job in the industry is only the beginning of your career and not the end.
Hits the nail on the head, but most of people (including myself) first start to realize this once they are hired. Not sure how this is going to help Warby's bank account, but the phrase is too good not to point it out!

Have you considered to put ads on your website? If you create something spectacular (which you usually do
) and hype the map, you could make some money from hits on the site. Or you could look for companies who are interested in putting content right into the level. I don't know how far you "would" like to go down that in game advertisement road though, if you are worried about "selling out"...Good thread!

Why do they make such a big deal out of their bullet physics? They don't even look that good, at least as soon as the enemies die they look like they weigh 15 kilos and are inflated with helium

If we spin [bioShock] the right way and get the right twist of innovation, we can make six parts of it, as Star Wars did," 2K president Christoph Hartmann told MCV. "Look at Star Wars. It's a fight between good and evil, just like BioShock.""But we have to be careful not to cash in," he added. "Because [bioShock] is so story driven, the question obviously arises: how long can you do it without turning into The Matrix? The first Matrix was great, the second one was weird and the third one, you thought: 'Who [making this] is on crack and who isn't?'"
Continuing, the president explained the dangers: "I won't name the company, but there was a great racing game years ago. They brought it back year-on-year. If you look at the scores, it's hard to believe what they've done to it. It's upsetting, actually."
Electronic Arts' Need for Speed series seems to fit Hartmann's description perfectly

I was only going to say something about the Jeff Gerstmann controversy maybe superseding his work. I can't really comment on 1up/EGM except to say it's unfortunate when a lot of people lose their jobs beyond their control, and when thousands of gamers let out a shrill cry together you can get caught up in the moment. I rarely read game news or review myself; at best I pop on Gamersyde and The Magic Box once a week, and even then I ignore any text that's not a game title.
I didn't quite understand the tears shed over Gerstmann's firing either (...)
It wasn't just the fact that he got fired which caused an outrage, it was the context and (suspected) motives behind the decision, which made the friendly, well-trusted facade of one of the most respected gaming publications crumble.
Right now it looks to me like UGO has acquired 1UP just to shut down a competitor, but this is merely speculation..maybe some more information leaks through from one of the fired editors.
