I picked it up today and played SP for a bit. The ambience is awesome, but I'm afraid I encountered a showstopper in the very first mission. I blew up the target in the village, then moved to the regroup spot. My squad leader was there, telling everyone to regroup, but nobody could be bothered to move. ![]()

Is that shopping list any indication of what Grin's next game is going to be like?

appareantly it wont be like onlive were onlive is a portal site containing all the games, but this gaikai software will instead be used by the games companies on their own websites to display their games.
Today you have to decide between a quick to access but low fidelity game running in your browser and a state of technology app that needs to be downloaded/installed. Gaikai would close that gap and untie graphics from the user's hardware. Too good to be true almost *teary eyed*...

Game streaming technology, Dave Perry just posted a demonstration video on his blog:

Consider me excited.

I don't quite understand your problem, why don't you just scale up the props/build a room that is so big it gives you the sensation of feeling tiny. Also mentioning for which engine/game you plan to build the map for would help.

I've downloaded the demo but when I try to run the installer it keeps saying that there is not enough disk space even though there are 22 GB left! It can't be that big!!!

Oh my god 3 was sooo much better than this one...I'm stunned, really, everything from story across characters to atmosphere was lame. I think we can honestly say that they have driven the Terminator franchise into the ground. It's a bit of a handicap that Arnold doesn't star (personally) anymore, but come on, they could have done a better job than this! Too many characters that don't get proper introduction or screen time, a stitched together plot full of holes...your attempt to carry the franchise to a succesful post-Arnold era has failed!

He really seems to enjoy destroying the White House. Doesn't look like a very original movie, but some of the scenes and effects look epic....hmmm I don't really think that justifies watching it, but I'll probably end up doing so anyway

Edit: "The Road" looks more interesting to me, less effects but the story doesn't appear as shallow as "let's show famous buildings collapsing"

yes it is a single room apartment. but why would you need more? basically i eat and sleep there.
yes, indeed. not exactly a family house we are looking for. Not in our line of work at least...
e-freak, I guess I can search for a better one later down the road, yeah! But that one will do for a while!
Which part of town?

My tally thus far:
- Character design has gone too far. I appreciate that they change the look to an older Max Payne to fit the storyline, but that guy has little to no resemblance to the character from the previous games.
- Setting controversy: Sao Paolo/Rio de Janeiro, it's slightly upsetting for Brazilians/people who know the places better, but honestly I didn't notice or really care. What does bother me is, what others mentioned, the bright, tropical, daylight setting that doesn't have anything to do with the previous games. I DO think though, that the game will have many dark places to visit, maybe it's just the selection of screenshots that is very weak for a new Max Payne game.

Hessi: I'll be in Cologne on Wednesday for the "medien-forum" and will stay over night with some fellow students in a hostel! Party? Yes/No?

So, "Dante's Inferno", I'm sure everyone has heard of this one already. Based on Dante Alighieri's "Divine Comedy", developed by the folks who did "Dead Space" - admittedly I haven't played the game, but heard only good things about it. Now a developer's interview has been released, with some CG footage mixed in, here is what Shacknews quoted from the video:
Quote"I read the poem and thought right away like, 'that's a video game,'" enthuses one assistant producer. "Of course, each piece we sort of interpret a little bit differently," warns another, explaining why Dante is a scythe-wielding "over-the-top action hero."
Source: http://www.shacknews.com/laryn.x?story=59127
This is why I like Shacknews so much, it's a place full of hardcore gamers, but when I read the comments I was relieved that I'm not the only one who couldn't share the enthusiasm of the developers. So you boast about basing your game on one of the most influential pieces of world literature and all you can come up with is an action-adventure about a melee-weapon wielding action hero? At one point one of the devs goes: "We are working very hard to make you go 'Ewww dude...yikes' " (making "disgusted" gestures) - I ask myself, is this a goal worth achieving? Entertaining people by making them feel grossed out, like in cheap horror flicks? This looks to me like EA is trying to launch a "God of War" copycat with extra gore.
Maybe it's a bit unfair to judge the game from so little that has been shown and give EA crap even though they launch new IPs like Mirror's Edge, Brütal Legend and Dead Space, but marketing like this really makes me lose faith in the big players of this industry sometimes.

Max Payne is dead, long live Alan Wake! WAH WAH WAH!

Most of the portfolio feedback threads were posted in Off-Topic...not an optimal place, but I'm against splitting "gaming discussion" into "games" and "game industry discussion", I thought you meant a game design specific sub forum. I tried to save some of the gems and topics that are repeatedly being brought up in the "superb threads" sub forum of gaming discussion, but must admit that I've been slacking lately with scouting for new additions (link: viewforum.php?f=64 ).
