Could be pressure from retailers or maybe the margin for Activision is higher when the copy is sold in a brick and mortar store than when distributed over Steam or...

There's no way on Earth Valve takes a bigger slice than Walmart + the cost of physically printing and distributing copies.

*shrug* it could have many reasons, maybe Activision wants to keep Valve (a competitor) away from the day 1 sales.

no it's actually true. to the law tagging is always the same. however they try to save them as often as possible and bring them to museums.

...before somebody else chizzles them off the wall to sell them.

I wonder about that Steam lock thing. It's not actually locked for all PC buyers, just people who bought it from Steam- retail copies can be activated IN steam and work right away, which is totally gay. So I want to know what would be the reason for this. Walmart pressure? Trying to artificially boost the sale figures of the PC version since NPD numbers don't count digital distro? Spite?

A lot of people like to point fingers at Gamestop but any company listening to Gamestop about anything PC related would have to be literally retarded, since most of their stores don't even stock PC games at all anymore, since they can't be sold used. At my local Gamestop if you ask for PC games they'll offer to order them online and have them shipped to the store for you, at extra cost. What great service!

Interesting to hear that someone tried this in the games business (with success). I've heard of independent movie makers who boosted publicity and sales of their works by spreading them in p2p networks before.

Got mixed feelings about the choice of music in the trailer but one thing's for sure: the singleplayer does look promising!

In other news MW2 just broke another pre-order record:

    Quote

"By all indicators, we anticipate Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be the biggest entertainment launch of all time," says Tony Bartel, executive vice president for merchandising and marketing at GameStop. "As of today, the number of pre-order reservations we've taken for the game is the highest for any title we've ever sold in our 6,200 store network."

This is plain rumour obviously but the writing made me think:

Have they never played counter strike? Or natural selection? Or any mp game ever?

How do you make this conclusion from the article you quoted from? It suggests that they have learnt from players exploiting the party talk in MW1 and fixed this issue in MW2 by blocking it. Of course this will upset some people who like this feature but then again since when do you care about the console version?

Basically what Furyo and HP said, trolling won't be tolerated, keep it constructive guys.

I wasn't trolling, that type of communication is part of the game. And I don't give a flying fuck about the console version I was just commenting on the comms.

Bro, this only affects the XBOX360 version, why are you so upset?

If the game looks this good and the storyline is as engaging throughout the entire game I don't mind that "dressing slutty" and "dancing sexy" is part of the gameplay. In fact in my book that's a good thing
