  • AUT development stops - Action legacy ends

This is probably the toughest news post I have had to prepare for the Action community and therefore I will not beat around the bush. Development on Action Unreal Tournament has terminated and the Action brand has been put on a long term hiatus.

The decision was reached last week during discussions with leading members of Akimbo Team Productions and the AUT development team agreed with all their conclusions. There are simply not enough people playing the mod to warrant another 18 months of daily commitment to the project. Furthermore, the team feel it is in the best interest to put the Action franchise on hold indefinitely and no other team will be given permission to take over development or use the Action name in future mod projects. Please understand that this decision was not easy and that the whole team are very proud of Action Unreal Tournament and appreciate all community support during the year and a half. It is a shame that this is how it ends but we hope you still try out the mod and spread the word.

Please mail me if you have any questions and come by #aut on irc.gamesurge.net to join us in 7 days of mourning!

Although I must admit I have never tried AUT, I was a fan of the series as a whole. I used to play lots of AHL, back in the days when it was one of the first HL mods out there and also in its later stages of development. I haven't played so much of AQ2 but it was cool too. Sad to see that it's over now

How you can arrange these different sized squares so quickly is a mistery. I tried and failed utterly. On the "pick the right state" game I got a 69% though, and on Europe level2 I got a 100% within 99secs. I'm sure you can do faster though.

Awesome man, I'm not sure what to think about the "fall down get teleported to light beam" feature yet, but I imagine it's funny when you chase somebody down the cliff and continue fighting after the teleportation

Plus all the people who aren't registered. In this very moment I write this post for example are 7 guests on this board. Ok that isn't so extremely much, but you can guess that it's quite a few more people checking these boards beside the ones who actually post.

    I had godmode on...

I didn't, that's why I got frustrated and quit playing it after reaching the pier. You have way too many mercs in the camp where the leader is located, also there the enemies from the pier are coming to that camp which makes it even harder.

You need more savepoints or at least position them better, the only one I came across so far was the one in that camp when I was surrounded by 15 mercs. You definately gotta make that leader stand more out, because I didn't notice that I killed him after I checked the objectives tab.

Oh and RD is right about the killzones, you can go much too far until a kill helicopter takes you out.

I like your terrain and vegetation though, it looks pretty overall. AI was oki too, except for those mercs coming from the pier to the camp, reduce their sound range and make sure they got a different group id.

I think I will give it a second try tomorrow when I have more time, maybe I'm also a little bit too harsh, I know that FarCry sp mapping isn't easy. So keep it up, if you got a new FarCry map in the works or still want to improve this one, I'll be willing to give you some indepth feedback.

Reminds me of finishing my SP map, which I would have to do in my freetime. :-?

Oh well, I'll try to at least.

I also noticed that fps were going down at some spots, but it was barely noticable on my machine. I agree that it would prolly become a problem with many players using grav guns etc. though, at least on low spec machines.

Is there a server to check out the gameplay yet?

    lol just noticed that too

Apparently the creator is "brisck1" and Zeta just posted a thread about the map here. Without any bad intentions I am sure, but you could have mentioned that it isn't your map.

When I saw the screens I just had to check out the map ingame and had a walkthrough.

It is looking REALLY good, the only major flaw I found was that the play with shadows looks in some parts very nice, however the downside is that some parts of the map are utterly dark. I doubt it's just my gamma settings, I don't have any problems in the official maps, but I think you should revise at least the outdoor lighting. The indoor lighting (beside in the super dark huts outside) on the other side is very bright, I think you can lower it down a little bit.

I hope to play the map soon to make up my mind about the gameplay. So far what I can see is a very big, great looking map in a hl2 setting with many physicalized props to kill each other with. Sounds like a real winner.

Oh and you can jump into this open container and can't get out of it anymore

So what do you want? Modders to boycot Battlefield, and work on FarCry instead?

    I second that.

If VU merged with Ubi EA would be like "hmm...ok then I'll just buy both of you at once in a bundle, here are 300 millions more kthx"
