  • E3 2006: Hands down, who's going?

    • FrieChamp
    • April 24, 2006 at 8:36 AM

We are about 2 and a half weeks away from E3 and if I remember correctly, I heard a lot of people saying last year that they will attend this time!

If not any last minute problems arise, I will be in LA the days during and around E3 (something like May 7th to 14th).

SO if any MapCorians will be around (and I'm sure at least a few will be), post here and maybe we can meet up and have a couple of cervezas together!

Rockstar is cool too; they gave their entire GTA team a month off after the game shipped (though I'm not sure I could face working on GTA 15: Zimmer Theft)

The money the original GTA guys ("DMA") earned recently from the GTA franchise is more extraordinary

Good points Thrik, shifting the forums into the middle where the news are, is most probably better than starting to update the news (no matter how many news posters we have, the forums will always be more up to date) and certainly better than what we have now.

VERY nice, crazy attention to detail. Only thing which bothered me was when following the screenshots and looking at the interior, with the broken tiles everywhere, worn down wallpapers, a garage with an old van and bikes hanging beneath the ceiling etc. it looked to me more like a run down appartment in a big city or even an industrial area. Then suddenly shots of nicely decorated timber-framed walls showed up, a fireplace burning outside along with skiing equipment lined up next to it.

These look like 2 different levels to me, maybe it feels more consistent and inside - outside transitions smoother when running through the level, but I think you should either make it completely run down, or a romantic lodge also from the inside Just my 2 cents!

Yep, Kelly and Reno explained it very well, I think the tacky, slutty, seductive look is what bothers me.

The emphasis on the (big) butt, the colors/style of the clothes (the "patched up" top ) and that gold chain around her (?) ankle looks kinda cheap to me too.

Not trying to put down your work, I think you did a good job on modeling and texturing the character, the combination of a hairy, cartoony character and sexy boggles me (and the others). Or rather, the tacky sexyness.

But maybe that's just a matter of taste, or in this case also your intention. How appropriate this for a portfolio is, I cannot say, I am not an artist

Not really. Flexible time doesnt mean you can sit around and do nothing...or come in at 2 PM.... Especially not when you're in production.

I kinda knew that, but so that you wouldn't have to "push" yourself to work 9 to 5 when you could use atleast some of that time to refresh and gain new motivation.Erm no, flexible working times usually means that you can start at 8am or 9am or 10am and stay till 5pm or 6pm or 7pm, or whatever else the core hours in the company you are working in are. What you do during these hours is a different story but doesn't have to do anything with flexible working time.

Very nice presentation Klein, I'm sure you gave everyone in Savannah a good idea about how to break in and what it's like to work at UbiSoft......and how to apply for a job there

Looking good over all, I went and found some non-fuzzy scans on, uh, I think Blues News.Just some comments/critiques if I may. On the characters mostly. The faces seem a little "pillowy" - I don't know. They seem too rounded and perhaps not grimey enough? I really like the one with the reddened circles under his eyes and the dirty face, but the top pic with the chap you voice, Mikey, he's vastly too clean and also has a funny thing going on with the shape of his jaw, but perhaps it's just the angle. The world on the whole seems like it could be toned down saturation-wise too, but that's just personal preference.

Overall though, great work, lookin' hot on the Unreal 3 engine. Curious to see some footage of it all in action sooner than later!

I also saw scans with better resolution (over here: http://www.playerone.be/galleries/gal_b ... n=bia4.jpg ) and I must say the levels look beautiful!

On the other hand the characters look like Toy Soldiers, probably because of the points Posty mentioned.

That's the beauty of an episodic game - you buy one episode, get the gist and if it's not your cup of tea you don't have to buy the rest
