afaik portal wont have a multiplayer mode.

lol yea, I don't know what everyone's raving so much about. I had the impression this wasn't merely a techdemo but also a gameplay demonstration, a singleplayer, first person puzzle game. I'd like to be proven wrong though.

I gotta agree with fletch though, modders could build on top of that technology and create some really interesting things.

Can someone translate this or sum it up?

    For example:

    Quote

The inevitability of these problems can probably be traced to the lack of accountability intrinsic to a non-commercial online project, and could be indicative of a certain upper boundary on what can realistically be done under these conditions. In this respect, Nightwatch's situation is both common and unique, in that the eventual problems were hardly new or unprecedented, and yet I am aware of no other modification which has come so far only to be felled by this type of issue.

For somebody whose mother language is not English or has an MIT degree that whole post is hard to decipher

I absolutely love the title, totally changes the way you think about game titles in my eyes. I think it`s a lot better than "Black Shadow Ops 2" and the like

(and don`t you dare to mock "Crysis" )

The original TF2 as we saw it was basically BF2 though, right Frie? I'm personally glad they're (presumably) evolving what TF is known for: arcadey, crazy, team based fun. Perhaps a modern combat game with roles, voice communications and a commander would have been groundbreaking in 1999 (basically all TF2 had going for it), but now it's been done a million times.

And if you look at the information on Wikipedia about what TF2 was meant to be up until the last few days, you'll see that it practically reads like you'd expect the design document for BF2 to read. It's taken so long that the original goal has become redundant. And we've got BF2142 and Quake Wars coming soon which will further expand the serious role based military theme.

I guess the depths of time have clouded a lot of people's vision of how there really wasn't much to be excited about concerning TF2 until just now.

I don`t think anyone believed that "if" TF2 will come out one day, it`s gonna be the game Valve showed in 1999, technology and gameplay wise. But there has always been the slim chance that Valve works on something seriously groundbreakingly awesome behind closed doors over the years. Anyway maybe it`s not too late and the TF2 they actually work on is THAT cool game, just different from what we`ve seen before, it just doesn`t seem to evolve into a big franchise but more a small project "that comes with hl2 - episode2 for PCs".

BF2 and other games most probably influenced Valve`s way of thinking about TF2, obviously the market changed during this 7 years period- I give you that

Thinking about it - it`s cool as TF:Source but as TF2? Looks like a dramatic change in concept to me, I think this just proves that the original TF2 as we saw it, is now officially dead. I hope it won`t be just a source port with a cartoony art style but something that will do it justice.

Sure there is - defaults to "p" I think but personally I rebound everything like that (needs, MFK table, etc...) to the buttons surrounding WASD. You need to look at options screens more often Frie

Or at least more closely, only saw a compass hotkey hmm...thanks!

Best moment so far was when I killed a victim with a pan when he was eating in the manhatten restaurant. Very satisfying!

There is a toggle-able ship map that shows you the floor plan and your location. It also highlights the area your quarry was last seen.

Yup, without that map it would only be half the fun. I find it kinda annoying that I need to press "I" and then switch to the map though, is there no hotkey which immediately brings up the map?

    • July 13, 2006 at 8:25 AM

Gothic I and II have been very popular here in Germany (maybe because Piranha Bytes is a German company? I don't know..) so many players here anticipate it.

I think the screenshots they have released so far range from good to "meh", artists can probably tell you better what's wrong with their lighting or assets, but don't judge a book by its cover right?!

I saw it at E3 and was a bit surprised that it only got one machine in a bulk of dozen others demoing other games, unless I somehow missed the main booth.

It looked okay, far from spectacular though. I just couldn't pull myself from looking at the main character's ponytail that constantly clipped through his head when moving. It's a 3rd person game. That's like fucking up the weapon in a FPS. COME ON Piranha you can do better than that!
