    Sony Ericsson K610

Smaller than the Siemens mobile I had before and it has more features that I don't really need.

I played a couple of rounds yesterday and I must say I quite enjoyed it. It definitely is no quantum leap forward but the futuristic setting gave DICE the opportunity to add some interesting new weapons, gadgets and vehicles. The rank system seems to work nicely again plus all the stuff to equip your soldier with.

I am not sure what to think of the Titan mode yet, I still like to play the flag gamemodes too. Not sure if the game is worth the full price, but it's fun nonetheless.

Small thing but it struck me: The place for the friends list felt very well placed to me, no external buddy list or anything. It's right there in the game menu, not hidden, you see who is online all the time and can easily join up.

Hey, nice to see you posting here mate My main comment is you need to go to town on 3D skyboxes, particularly for gg_autumn, and even more desperately, dm_rust. That map looks pretty cool but the open sky area is so huge and the roof line is so flat that it looks unrealistic. With an interesting 3D skybox (especially if combined with more detail/structures above the current roof line) that could be alleviated.

I really like the look of the crossfire remake - I've seen it before but I think it must have been an earlier version as I don't remember liking it so much before

Yea, or some height variations among the buildings to begin with.

gg_factory reminds me more of a train stationg than a factory The big windows, the bright ambience..on the other hand you say it is based of an actual plant and I haven't seen the reference pics

Some more detail on the columns wouldn't hurt maybe, more love to the lighting and effects, overall I can see the room being fun though.

gg_autumn looks rushed. The cliffs look very artificial, being all at one height, the layout looks pretty simple. You say it took you 2-5 days to complete and considering this it's not bad..but maybe less levels and more effort putting into one would be good? dm_rust looks promising!

The trailer looks great, but the music totally destroys it. Seriously, this gotta be a joke, it's the worst pick of music I have EVER seen (or "heard" rather).

Not sure what kind of tools Hammer comes with for creating a movie, but the Sandbox integrated trackview tool in Cryengine is very straightforward and easy to handle (since it was made to be used for cutscenes).

You got a track for movement, rotation, animation, particles, sounds, cameras etc. There is a timebar and all you need to do is to add keynodes in each track, selecting animations/effects and to jump into game to look at the scene (or you play it in perspective view , that works of course too).

That's how I also feel sometimes Duffy. Politics often seem to be not about content but about bashing the opponent's political agenda. Of course Bush cannot be blamed for "everything", but he stands for this administration and its decisions. The shame is that this political disinterest and insecurity of the public lets that government come up with laws now - which were thought to be unthinkable in the US just a few years ago.

I read somebody refering to the communist "hunt" in the 50s yesterday and this is actually what the the US government's measures remind me of.

  • I suppose...

When you talk about art direction and styles, I think the matter is a bit more complex. Games get stylized for different reasons. For example some have a style that was created to give the game a specific, unique look (Okami is one of the more recent examples). Others look a certain way due to technical limitations and compromises have to be made. I am sure there are many, individual reasons for why games look the way they do.

FarCry was no different, I actually talked to our art director about this. The game had a "postcard" look from day one, overly saturated and bright to distinguish itself from the dark corridor shooters the market was flood with.

Art direction is in many ways about how to position your product on the market and make it stand out, to give it a certain "style" and in this aspect - photo realism is also an art style. Now that we have the technology to do it (or at least get very close to it) - why shouldn't we? Movies also have an art style, while being completely realistic, it's about the subtle things..

However I would like to stress that Crysis is more than just Act1 (jungle and North Koreans), although this has been the act which has probably been featured the most to the public. Me, personally don't have anything to do with that *hint alienship hint*

PS: The question whether you like realism in games or not, is a different story..
