Intuitive Coop - Jump & Run - Physics gameplay, creating levels on your own OR with your friends in real time/at the same time (!!), adding content from your HD to them, then sharing the level online.
Seriously – HOW COOL IS THAT?? ![]()
Love the look too, could be a great family game. I guess the PS3 is getting a good game after all!
Quote from e-freakseir - that's what sandbox 1 was like and i thought it to be it's biggest mistake - it is much easier to get into the real work for a map if you can edit at least the easy part of the architecture directly instead of modelling every fart in an extra app.
So now that all engine features and tools are pretty much public knowledge, I can tell you that we have a "solids tool". It is very similar to what HL designers refer to as "brushes", so yes - that is possible with Sandbox 2. Internally it is only used for whiteboxing and gameplay prototypes though, you won't find any solids in the game. If you can't live without your brushes though - knock yourself out ![]()

Good for Netdevil, last thing I heard they weren't doing so well!
So we set out to look for somebody else than Mojo to get a rating system running and we found.....Mojo.
Go MapCore ![]()
Well at least we got that plugin which could definitely help (thanks Zacker), maybe it's enough for Mojo to do the job himself even? Care to comment Mr. Mojolicious?
There should be more infomation on Cryengine 2 and Sandbox 2 becoming available during the upcoming days, now that the GDC has started (we sent some people there to demonstrate the technology and tools).
I think your pseudonym and work is better known among these ranks than you might think! ![]()
Loved ns_hera, this one is looking pretty sweet too! Welcome to MapCore!
I can't work without my 2nd screen anymore D:
Ahaahaha awesome! ![]()
Not a big PS2 fan and I haven't played the first one (shame on me I know..) but this looks like a blast:

So you guys saw how you can play NOD in the demo right? ![]()
Quote from Warbymy sincere believe that players should get instant killed/game over as soon as they have fucked up something unrecoverable i have played games that just keep running after you have fucked up a riddle or script and the level became unbeatable shadow of the beast 3 comes to mind here. also i never gain want to drop down an abyss and than surivie with 1 pixel of health at the bottom only to be stuck there forever.so this rule must hold true at all times in actually all games: the player CAN STILL MAKE IT or his "game over" is assured in a split second.
There is a difference between a bug and those "mission failed you need to restart kthxbye" designs. What you describe are bugs. I'm personally not a big fan of "mission failed" screens, ultimately no matter what the player does should allow him to continue the game, unless he dies. That is easier said than done though ![]()
Sandbox games like GTA accomplish this, they send a shitload of cops after you when you start messing around with the game world but you can still continue playing as long as you can survive. Then again it's completly different from FPS..
Quote from Rokusho39I too agree with most of it, however I feel that some of the example are incorrect, like stating how long the gap is between starting the game and getting a weapon in HL2, theres still tons of action to be had escaping the Combine patrols as you make way to Kliener's lab.
He means the gap between starting and getting the crowbar (the train ride, train station, barney, etc.)

Good read in my opinion. Of course highly subjective - so make up your own mind if these rules apply!
You are right, I'm stoned.
And this might better fit to EOT.
Cheer up, it has unicorns in it ![]()
Charlie goes to Candy Mountain:
Greetings fellow MapCorians!
Do you like MapCore? Would you like to help us making this place even cooler? Do you have the coding skills to add thread rating support to our phpBB?
If the answer is yes - then this is your chance to give some love back to the community!
First off let me answer you two questions, which you might already have on your mind by now:
Why do we want to add rating support for threads on this board? Will you be able to rate threads in each section?
For now - we only want to add it to the "Finished Work" gallery, because this is the section which sparked the idea and needs such a system the most.
Why? Because right now the ability to elevate threads and members to "spotlight" status (resulting the work to be displayed on the front page) is exclusive to Moderators and Admins on this board and we plan to change this.
There are no guidelines that determine when a level "is fun" enough or a scene "looks good" enough to deserve spot light status. If the "general consensus" taken from the replies qualified the work to be good enough, it was moved by one of our mods or admins to the Spotlight gallery, but this definition is a bit loose and from time to time excellent work slips under the radar.
The ability for regular people from the community to rate threads can change this.
Our plan is to give community members the ability to rate threads that are posted in the Finished Work section and once a thread reaches a certain number of votes and a minimum average rating - the mods will move it to the gallery and put it on the front page.
Everything clear so far?
Great.
Now this is where you come in.
Right now this whole rating system is still pure fiction. Me personally - I am happy to find my way around this board without getting lost or deleting half of the database, so messing with the inner works of the board and adding features is clearly beyond me.
Mojo knows how to do some tricks, but he's also a very busy man, so we need somebody to help us out!
If you think you have the dedication and time to add such a feature to the MapCore board please send a PM to Mojo. He will take your offer from there.
Anyone having questions? Anyone thinking this is a horrible idea and we should all burn at a stake for bringing this up? Feel free to post comments and suggestions below.
