Maybe you were sarcastic but if not, yes it can and you if anyone should know that

I wasn't sarcastic, those screenshots look amazing! Excellent artwork, especially on the 360!

what exactly is amazing about the artwork? It's just boring bland tiling textures on pretty bland standard geometry. It's the lighting and athmosphere that makes it look pretty ok. But it can be ALOT better! I mean insurgency looks way better than this imo.

I would like to see it ingame before I make my final call, the lighting definitely also has a role in this, but despite INS looking great already, this looks better to me. It might be the particles that INS is lacking mostly, or the textures that look very sharp and detailed. Maybe higher res? I think the characters and 1st person weapons look superior as well.

Again we are comparing a retail product with a MOD here, but I wouldn't say INS looks better.

sweet jesus @ DX10 one, so many subtleties there that just pull the whole picture together. i love the rays of light going through the trees and the way the rocks really "pop", or maybe that's because they're actually models there?

The small rocks/pebbles aren't models, it's a texture that makes use of the parallax mapping

    I bought my equipment today

I picked a cherry Epiphone Gibson SG:

    [Blocked Image: http://www.musik-meisinger.de/1/images/SG-CLASSIC-P90-HC.jpg]

The amp is a Vox Valvetronix 15 W amp, I was first gonna buy a Marshall 30W amp, but the Vox one had more features and 15W should be enough for my room.

    Thanks for the help dudes

EA doesn't own Crytek, though; Frie, correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall Crysis being published through the EA Partners program (the same distribution method Valve uses for the retail copies of its games). This is massively different than being owned by the publisher. They still make the game they want.

Correcto, EA Partners is a seperate entity from the rest of EA that handles projects developed in independent studios, such as Crysis by Crytek.

I don't think Crysis is 100% funded by EA(P) though..

    On the subject:

I found following excerpt from the gi.biz article interesting:

    Quote

CEO John Riccitiello told investors that he had a residual interest in Elevation Partners, which is why the acquisition was handled by an independent audit committee.Although Riccitiello did not discuss his personal stake in the acquisition any further, EA has filed form 8-K with the SEC indicating that he could earn as much as USD 4.9 million from the deal.

Sounds like a good deal for Riccitiello

I agree. Crysis is a pretty awaited/hyped game and even if not that much people actually improve their computer to be able to play it, it'll probably push the computer market one step forward in next-gen hardware features.

When 14yrs old Jimmy goes to the supermarket with his father to buy a family computer for Christmas, he'll ask if it supports the latest next-gen games they are buying aswell. If not, he'll sure convince dad to put in 200€ more and have a computer that'll be on top *for years*!

I think games such as and following Crysis will have a similar (even if lesser) effect that all the Vista-Ready stuff has had on the minimal hardware sold in your local store: a small sticker "Next-gen games ready" might not be out of the question, if it doesn't exist yet somewhere.

That being said, I don't know much about hardware and my computer was cheap 3 years ago, so don't beat me too hard!

No you are right, this is exactly what I mean. Also in response to e-freak's post - many of the people on this board started to play FPS games with half-life and probably even more with games before that, but if you think about today's teenage generations, these guys first action games are halo 2 or Gears of War! The 14 years old (or most likely slightly older..rating *cough*) going to Wal Mart to see what games are available for their new PC.

In fact there is already something like the stickers you are talking about, it's the "Games for Windows" shelf. These games meet special requirements and are tagged by Microsoft, because they realized that the PC as a gaming platform has fallen behind after pushing the X-Box so hard.

Of course all this corporate talk, by the hardware manufacturers, microsoft as OS distributor or Crytek the software developer, is spawned by financial interests, but us gamers profit from the new technology as well.

Yeah, the ones who don't have a PC... come on, almost every gamer has played HL2, CS, DOD or TF and as such has steam installed. If Crytek was smarter they could have used Steam statistics to get a better target group.

I'm kind of disappointed with this specs, although it seems that i can run the game without any trouble, but it won't be any fun if there isn't anyone to play with.

You seriously think Crytek has never looked at the Steam stats? Think again.

But this is not the philosophy of Crytek. It's not about looking at the clientbase of the competition and build a game optimized for their PCs, this is about setting a new benchmark in FPS gaming (and a new franchise), in the footsteps of FarCry (which was quite hardware demanding back in the days as well). You create a great game and people will buy the equipment to run it, or enjoy it on a smaller scale or a few months later. And it's not like you're going to buy the rig for "just for Crysis", equally demanding games will follow its release sooner or later, but somebody has to give it a head start otherwise everybody is just treading on the same spot!

GS: Crysis requires a minimum of 256MB of video card memory, which is pretty unprecedented for a PC game. Are you afraid that a lot of PC gamers won't have powerful-enough hardware to run the game? Is there no way around that?CY: The 256 MB 6800 was [available] in 2004 as the high-end card, so hence we picked this. Further compromises were possible but quality and frame rate would have suffered more. We are not afraid, since we know by statistics from our partners like Nvidia and Intel and from PC manufactures the base to play our game is theoretically bigger than the consoles, plus we hope Crysis inspires people to play at very high configurations that--like in the past with top-tier titles--usually required you to upgrade your PC.

Joining the party a bit late, but I just wanted to mention that I also think the game's really good fun. I've never been a huge fan of TFC and only played it on LANs, but I don't regret purchasing TF2.

One of the very few games that don't just "promote teamplay", like a label on the box of the game, which is in most cases only necessary and executed in clan matches, it really requires team effort to be successful.

I don't know about everyone else, but most of the time I "really" want my team to win and not just get a lot of frags of whatever. Sure I'm happy when I break my record for frags in one go, or number of destroyed fortifications or whatever, but most of the time I'm trying to play the class my team would benefit the most from and be successful that way.

Only question remaining is - when does Valve release a new "hunted" ?

wow it might not become the new benchmark in fps gaming, but I don't agree with the overall rather negative response.

It looks very similar to the original F.E.A.R (I actually didn't see any glaring graphic updates), but if I want to play shooters with open environments I play BF2, Halo3, wait for Crysis or whatever. I am a little surprised by myself that I defend a linear, corridor shooter, but despite the obvious franchise milking (which you simply cannot afford not to do nowadays) you gotta give these guys some props for the ambiance.

I thought the first F.E.A.R was pretty creepy, but some of the scenes and effects in that video were even better! I love what they do with the sound and music to build up suspension (the whispering, music stingers, the rustling from the commander's intercom was also pretty clever ), although it was just a video, the timing between audio and visual effects always looked really spot on. You can't just come up with a whole bunch of scarry scenes like that, especially for 2 games, you got to watch a lot of horror movies and extract the right material to get it right. It IS a horror movie you play in. The soldiers look pretty standard, sure, but how cool are those crawling/jumping zombies? I thought these teleporting, wall bouncing soldiers in the first part were already pretty scarry. Some of their first person stuff is also still quite nice.

So even if I go out on a limb here for the Monolith guys, I don't think it's all that bad

    The 8800GTS will save you 100-150$ over the 8800GTX I think. The 22" Dell shouldn't be VERY costly - Dell E228WFP 22" - http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/prod ... u=320-5205The price difference between a E6750 and a Q6600 is well under a 100$. X6800 is MUCH costlier. On to your HDD, 160GB -> 320GB, for like a 30% price difference you get a 100% space increase. Must be like a 30-40$ price difference. Wonder if you even get 160GB today 320GB I think is the sweet spot. Get the WD Caviar SE16 WD32000AAKS - http://www.westerndigital.com/en/produc ... riveID=299

The thing with the 8600 series of nVidia cards is that they get pretty owned by the X1800/X1900s of ATI in DX9 games. The ATI's are DX9 but the 8600's DX10 performance is appauling from the looks of it , so the 8800___ IF at all you want DX10! If DX9 is all you want to play get a ATI X18xx/X19xx.

On the US Dell site the screen costs 267 $, on the German Dell site it costs 347 € ? How fucked up is that
