  • Will Wright: Games are not stories

Yea, a transcript, audio or video recording - I would have liked to get the whole speech

He seems to have talked about a couple of interesting things looking at the excerpt, not just about story telling.

I also have the impression that developers tend to innovate more in terms of graphics, new storyline and characters than original gameplay.

Funny how people react about killing virtual animals, when most of us are already killing virtual people (good & bad) every day.

Hey I only kill the bad guys, the animals are innocent.

Also terrorists aren't furry and cute...most of the time...

I agree, that was uncalled for st0lve.

The video is rather short, but the gameplay looks quite original to me. I've never played the original title, since it is so old.

Looks good! I like the character animations and the music especially!

Yea I think the lighting is a bit over the top, judging from the screenshots. Looks like you tried a little too hard on that end.

It stills looks very good though! Great job!

So how does the SP mode of UT3 exactly look like? The old arena bot battles tied together with a story told in cinematics?

":23d76u8p]Well, I don't condemn hunting animals for food, since they die instantly.Only thing I don condemn, is killing animals and taking they'r skin of while theyr still alive, to dress rich women.

This video is well known around the internet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THmJgWcU04Y

(I won't advice sensitive people to watch it tho)

Fur is a completely different topic, but your assessment that hunted animals always die instantly is not correct. Depending on where the animal is hit, it could wander around for days until it dies, if the hunter doesn't find it.

Doing it virtually is probably less harmful, but not less stupid to me. That's subjective though and I didn't mean to offend anyone.

    (but it still looks bad)

It wasn't on my radar at all until a guy at work said I should check out the demo (In return I had him check out ShadowRun, spreading some luv ). Anyway, its not all bad, and it has some okay ideas with the squad based stuff where different members have some unique abilities and weapons, but it just felt so sluggish in the controls Also the combat was kinda weak, a bit hard to judge from the demo though. And although it looked really dark and moody and actually had a location that called for the shiny specular maps (for once!), then I cant help thinking that its the kinda game where you'll be sick and tired of the art style after playing it for an hour or so.Anyway I didn't like it, never properly checked out Undying but it seems like a lot better game than this.

You haven't heard about "the witcher" before?

The videos I saw of jericho didn't look too bad, but the review scores aren't all that convincing. Around ~66 on average for all 3 platforms.

More funny videos by Frie! Yay!

OK I just saw this over at SA and laughed my ass off. Some guy played "Deer Hunter 2005", which is similar to all the other deer hunters before, but apparently it has online multiplayer support, so instead of killing virtual deer on your own, you can do it with dumbass rednecks from all over the world.

The game itself is pretty horrible apparently, but as previously mentioned - some people enjoy it, there are clans etc.

The video is a compilation from ingame footage and the shittyness of the game is quite amusing, I recommend:

What 'bout Frankfurt am Main? Crytek is in Frankfurt and Germany still has the best beer of them all. Frankfurt Hahn is still a very cheap target and you just have to take the bus for 10€ or so to add if you don't want to pay for a direct flight to Frankfurt aM.

I wouldn't object that, I know plenty of good places in Frankfurt and I would imagine alf-life and maybe a few other crytekians would join us.

Has anyone seen Mazy lately? Officer Mazy please report in

Ok, one problem with Airberlin seems to be that they don't fly on the weekend and "sometimes" Fridays and Mondays are extraordinarily expensive, which won't make finding a proper date any easier.

So far London Stansted seems to be the cheapest choice with most flights to me. Also - booze is cheaper than in Scandinavia which is to consider.

As far as accommodations go, I haven't made many experiences, but hostels tend to be a bit shit and hotels pricey in Britain's capital.

I was going to write down a bunch of destinations and prices, until I discovered the "more offers" button on the airberlin website. The amount of offers is absolutely tremendous, even if just for airberlin, the cheapest one when flying from Germany (I think, I gotta check Ryanair later).

    http://www.airberlin.com/site/index.php?LANG=eng

Just click on special offers, there are also more destinations than these 3 cities, but these ones are among the cheapest so we need to be realistic.

Very nice, but what's with the statues in the background of the last shots? Looks mayan or something and out of place in the medieval themed map

If they give the title to Hamilton because of a few degrees that wouldn't have made any difference in the first place, they might as well host a lottery.
