well friechamp, some games really don't deserve any money (need for speed pro street ????) but some really do, for example world in conflict, call of duty 4 and off course orange pack.valve made a very good job bringing the orange box, it is totally worth the 50 euro's i paid for it. I have played a pirated copy of CoD4 (Single player only), planning to buy the game if it gets cheaper then 50 euro.

But don't you realize that all this is entirely subjective? If you don't think that a game is worth its money then don't play it, simple as that!

Wow, I didn't even say that I'm surprised that so many people pirate games or that I've never played any pirated copies, read it again, I just mention "Crysis" and you guys go totally off.

What shocks me most is that you talk so openly about pirating and how "the game developers don't deserve any money from you" because you didn't have any "fun". Or maybe just a little, but defnitely not enough to pay them?

That attitude really sucks guys and I didn't expect that from people who work in a games studio or aspire to do something game related in the future. Which copy of Crysis did you play Hessi? The one you got from Crytek at the release party as a gift? At least you didn't download it then, way to go...well, I don't wanna make this personal. But if you know the people (or better yet if you are one of the people) who have spent so much time and effort to build something and people steal it just to bash it afterwards, well, it hurts. And this isn't about Crysis, ask Mazy, ask the GBX folks, or the people from IW.

Trying a game is what demos are for, either you buy the game afterwards or you leave it. I think pirating a game and buying the title afterwards is better than not paying at all, but still definitely the right way. At least by my definition, but maybe I'm the only one here.

    Edit: With Thrik

I hear similar things from Crytek (comparison between users playing Cryisis online and actual sales). What astounds me more than how many people are pirating the games is how poor copy protection stills seems to be today.

I've had a pet project I've been working on for years, three of them if my memory is right. It started as a simple idea: You can judge a lot from a person's desk. I bet you could judge just as much from their home entertainment system. So I decided it would be fun to try and track down some pictures from the work desks and home gaming set-ups of the people who work in and cover the video game industry. Simple right? Not so much.

You'll get to see the desks of Sid Meier, Richard Garriott, Peter Molyneux, Randy Pitchford, David Jaffe and many others. I found this galery to be really enjoyable to browse through, you don't get an iside look of so many game studio CEO's offices every day. Most of the photos are quite recent too and oh boy, what kind of equipment and "stuff" these peeps gather in their workplaces..

The description sounds great, finally somebody is doing something new with movement in an fps game. I also like the fact that you don't have to kill a thousand baddies to complete the mission, instead you are the haunted and have to escape. It's become a rare occasion (sadly) that I get excited about a game by just reading its gameplay description, without any further screenshots or trailers (although the screenshots look cool, I like the stylized colors!)

I'm sorry guys, but the connections really suck or cost a fortune (since I would need to time/pay both train and plane tickets). Considering my spendings over the last months and other plans in february, I'm not going to make it. Shame, because I'd really loved to meet some of you guys, maybe a different time..

All I see is higher-res photo-textures with Crysis. Is that it? Is that what makes them more realistic? Still not quite in the uncanny valley yet.

What do you mean with "photo textures"? Take a photo of an actor and slap that on the mesh? That's not how these textures were done...

Sentura, it sounds like this jumping restriction is really frustrating you, but maybe you are overreacting a little? You got an opinion about it, R_Yell got a different one, you can discuss the matter but eventually you won't come to an agreement and since R_Yell is the designer of the MOD, he will have the last word. I think designers should always listen to the players feedback and no matter if R_Yell is right or not - I don't think he ignored your feedback or put it down in an arrogant manner, so why get personal?
