CP_Redstone, assembled by Shacknews community member -sk-, is perhaps the prettiest and most promising custom TF2 map I've run across.

    Congrats!

    Lost - The Videogame

Almost forgot about this again! If I hadn't seen it in the weekly "games release list" at the Shack recently I wouldn't have even known it's out! A quick search at metacritic: 57%

Ouch! I was actually anticipating this one. Why can't even big developers like Ubisoft put enough effort into building a decent enough game around a movie/series license? Maybe they just don't want to, because they know average is enough to sell in conjunction with such a popular license...

What do you think about the game so far Maz?

I don't know, I can hardly imagine more problems. I got the game for 15 € in a store and I'm still pissed about wasting the money.

and ubisoft is one of the companys that actually does pretty decent pc ports .

After seeing myself what a joke the Resident Evil 4 PC port is, I must say I can't share this experience, but you are probably talking about different ports!

Thanks for sharing that article Taylor! That was a somewhat uplifting read for PC devs!

Do you actually have such hair technology as seen on the viking helmet in the picture or is that a cheap trick by your marketing department?

EA, Sega and well, Apple presented first demos of game titles to be released for the iPhone! Apple released an SDK to develop software for the iPhone yesterday and in June indie developers as well as big companies can distribute their software via itunes (Apple checks every submission, sorry guys, no porn allowed and in case you charge people for the download of your software, apple cashes in 30% of the sales). There is also a big software update coming up this summer with goodies for business people. The prospects of using the iPhone's features for interaction like the touchpad interface obviously and tilt sensor (is that what you call it?) could make it an excellent choice for game designers.

Sounds pretty cool overall what do you think?

Oh, and one of the announced games coming to the iPhone by EA is Spore:

So let me start by telling you what Giant Bomb is, and then I’ll briefly touch on what Giant Bomb will become. Right now, we’re opening up this blog, where myself and others will be writing about games, covering them in much the same way I’ve been doing on my personal blog for the past three months. Sometimes it will be off-the-cuff, sometimes it will be reasoned and well-thought-out. We’ll review games here, and we’ll talk about upcoming stuff, as well. We’ll occasionally chime in on the news that surrounds the game industry, both here in print, and in our podcast, which will grow out of the Arrow Pointing Down podcast that I’ve been doing with Ryan Davis for the past few weeks. Yes, we will still continue to speak our minds on the latest happenings in the beverage and snack food industries. Don’t you worry about that. We’ll talk about games there, too. Surprise!

Looks like he has been busy! Getting an office, planning the website and getting together with people to build it! I'm interested to see what will become of this!

In retrospect I think it was inappropriate of me to post such a comment in HP's thread for his fine map. Instead I feel a thread in "engine discussion" is far more appropriate for people to argue about which engine is shit.

    Fixed.

PS: "Source FTW!" - I think "the retarded olympics" sums up my expectations for this thread quite well

That post by the IL guy amplifies the feeling of how weird this whole situation in pc games development has become.

I can remember when 2 years game developers said "yea, piracy...always been around, never will go away, you lose sales due to it but they are marginal overall.." and now we've come to the situation where developers are screaming "90%+ loss of sales due to piracy". If he says TQ still did "ok" and they didn't lose money from it, so my interpretation is that they did break even. So consequentially (comparing the numbers) they would be swimming in gold if 100% of the players had actually paid for the game? That doesn't sound right...I don't mean to make piracy look less worse than it is, but I think the truth is somewhere in between.

It doesn't help that he rants on how frustratingly hard it is to develop on the PC: Different hardware components, third party apps,...hey I tell you what - that's how it's always been and that's why it has always been so convinient to put your cartridge into the SNES and play mario kart right away, without any hassle, because it was on a console DOH!

People whining and reviewers writing bad about your game - well, you will have that on consoles too.

So overall this sounds more like a list of excuses for why the game failed/why they didn't receive any funding for their next project/why they had to shut down the studio. I know it's tough and I feel sorry for the people at IL, but you need to adapt or you get hit by the meteor.
