Based on metacritic then the reviews have been sorta average, but everything I'm hearing from people who's seen it is that it's absolutely spectacular~~can't wait until Friday when I've got tickets for it~

Pretty hyped for it, got a few buddies signed up on trying it out. Maybe we can do a core game as well at one point~

Played it for some 2 hours yesterday, still haven't gotten entirely used to the controls, often ending up with the right stick character on the left side and completely messing up my brain up as a result. Most of the puzzles are basically instantly solved so far, but it does have some really cool moments though, such as having to carry a long pipe through a narrow area and another being hooked together with a rope and having one character grab onto something while the other swings around.

I generally like it, but the controls make it feel really rough for me.

Well they updated it saying that he's apparently still at Id, but it sounds a bit weird.

Just tried the trial, it might take a bit of time to get used to, but the things with controlling each character with a separate analog stick felt pretty awkward most of the time, but that might be you'll get used to after playing.

Will probably pick it up when I get home, it looks quite nice~

Really dig the change from street level to high above ground BTW, can't wait to see it all arted up too~

I haven't read the feedback from the last test so I don't know if it was mentioned, but I kinda miss the corridor that went to the main atrium. Right now the CT's have a really tough fight to get to the T's, and that path felt like it evened the odds a bit. That or perhaps adding some pillars/open rooms next to the long corridor thats sorta part of the atrium.

Anyway, still dig the map, but it feels like there's something missing here~

Everyone just needs to calm the fuck down.

I quite liked Fez, but Fish seems pretty emotionally unstable, I actually think taking a proper break is a good move for him, try and get back revitalised. And I've heard Marcus Beer make some actual intelligent comments once in a while, but for most of the time he's just an ass in an entirely unfunny way. Haven't followed the story in great detail, but him calling them out on that GT thing for not wanting to comment on the story about Xbox self publishing might seem a bit snobbish, but why the hell should they if they don't want to. Beer sounds like he feels the gaming press/he's somehow entitled to their time and attention, which is a pretty odd thing IMO.

Yeah, looks amazing. Love that Cuaron stated that he disliked the first trailer for having lots of noise in space, and that this one doesn't.

Gotta stop watching these trailers tho, need to go in as blank as possible on this one~

  • What are you playing now?

    • Mazy
    • July 16, 2013 at 7:18 PM

Been playing so much over the last couple of weeks, so here's an opinion bomb:

    Call of Juarez Gunslinger

Got it in the Steam sales, wanted to get it when it launched but never got around to it. Really great game. Solid enough shooter with a pretty cool story wrapper (It's being told as a guy telling stories in a bar, with the contents sometimes changing as you play it based on what others there interject with). Definitely worth checking out if you're in the mood for short but sweet shooter.

    Antichamber

Haven't finished this one, but I first played it at a party while being pretty drunk, which probably helped a lot. It's got some pretty neat ideas with distortion your expectations. For most people it probably won't be able to hold their attention for more than an hour or two tho.

    Starseed Pilgrim

Pretty peculiar 2D freeform platformy art game. You're in an obscure space where you need to plant seeds that then grow in different ways depending on which one you use, where you figure out ways of combining them to reach new places. It nearly tells you nothing about how you play to progress, but I still found myself coming back to it over and over.

    Metro Last Light

Started out liking this one, but about 2-3 hours it just became a chore to get through it. Some interesting ideas from time to time, looks great, but it's a miracle that I got through it. Horribly told story, though admittedly I kinda tuned out halfway through.

    Cart Life

Pretty cool art game. You choose one of three vendors and have to turn a profit while dealing with all kinds of real life issues. Manages to convey a real feeling of the stress and sadness that these characters go through. It's not really fun as such, but really interesting if you're in the mood for an "art" game

    The Swapper

Awesome puzzle platformer where you have to clone yourself to solve puzzles. For the first time in ages I actually really liked being stuck in a puzzle game, and never once thought about going for a walkthrough even when I'd spent like 20 minutes trying to figure something out. Really cool art style and story as well. Highly recommend this one.

    Thomas was Alone

Another really cool platform game. None of it never really gets very complicated, but thoroughly enjoyable. Also some pretty interesting character building of simple shapes

    Company of Heroes 2

Still haven't played any MP, but the SP campaign was pretty uneven for me. I can totally see why they tried to go the StarCraft route of trying and mixing up every mission so it never becomes tedious, but it ends up feeling way too scripted as a result. Strangely enough then having a few missions with more of a skirmish approach would've really fit it nicely, though I guess you could argue that you can just playing skirmish mode then. Anyway, still wanna try out the MP, since that's the reason I got it.

    Gunpoint

Terrific stealth puzzle platformer with some excellent writing. Really felt like the length was perfect, since I was just about to get a bit tired of the core rewiring mechanics just as it was over.

    The Cave

Not super impressed with this one. Started playing it when it launched (like...half a year ago), and only just recently pulled myself together and finished it. There's some pretty good puzzles here and there, but feel of the character movement just made it feel way more cumbersome than it should. My main memories from this one is just walking long distances to get one item from an area to another, instead of doing something meaningful.

    On iOS:

    Kingdom Rush Frontiers

    More Kingdom Rush, fucking rocks!

    Dead Ahead

Played this one way more than I expected. Endless runner where you're on a bike with a gun and have to escape zombies, with upgrades to bikes and weapons. Cool art style~

    Limbo

Played this in preparation for starting at Playdead, and I got say that I'm really impressed with how well it translates to a touch based control scheme. It obviously has the benefit of having a pretty simple set of mechanics, but it feels so natural to just place your finger anywhere on the screen and move it to move the character, and swipe up and down to jump. Definitely not as tight as an actual controller, at least when it comes to grabbing stuff, where you need to stand still next to things and then have it lock on them automatically, but still pretty great.

    Icebreakers

Really cool Rovio published game. Swiping to cut ice and solve puzzles, easy to see some Angry Birds like influences in this, but where I never really got how Angry Birds became as huge as it is, then this is actually a genuinely good game.
