  • 25 Most Influencial Games

    • Mazy
    • June 26, 2005 at 4:03 PM

One of my colleages at IO recently made a picture to portray his opinion of the most influencial games made (heres his: http://binarybonsai.com/archives/2005/0 ... ial-games/ ), and while taking a break from some massive gaming I decided to follow his lead and do one myself.

Keep in mind that these might not be the best games (although most of these are classics anyway), but more importantly they are games that has made you think differently about games. One thing I kept thinking over was adding Doom, but Doom didnt really change my mind regarding first person shooters to be honest. Wolfenstein 3D was the one that made me fall in love with the gerne, and although Doom is probably a better game, it hasnt fundamentally influenced my look at games as much as Wolfenstein did.

    Anyway, heres mine

I encourage you to make one yourself, its good fun when you really think back on memories of these games, and will probably end up wanting to playing them again

Another time is when I was playing another City map but this one had black hawks. Anyways it was towards the end of the game and the Chinese had one spawn point captured. So I was on a chain gun in a full Black Hawk, the pilot takes us between two buildings that are crawling with chinese forces. He fly and gets level with the two roof tops and me and the other chain gunner just unload onto the top of the roof tops as the black hawk pilot does hovering 360's... It was all so much fun until three or four missles came flying at us blew us up.

This game is by far the one of the fun games I have played in a long time.

Whats everyones favorite kit, vechile and map

I love playing support, flying helicopter and my favorite map is Mashtuur City !

Me, Mac and H2o was playing on mashtuur yesterday and we had something almost like that. I was piloting a blackhawk while mac n watah were gunning down guys on the rooftops, must have gotten like 20 guys total in our sweeps around the city, quite effective

My fav kit is prolly the spec ops, although i really like being a medic from time to time. In general its quite fun to try and get some variation with all the classes sometimes, but when the team is really pressed I usually go for spec ops, cant live without c4!

Oh and the cobra > *, next after that is the mec n chinese jeeps (arent they the same?)

Loads of fantastic moments, but 2 things are really pissing me off:1. Pricks who don't forgive you for a completely accidental teamkill, even when 90% of the time they jaywalk blindly into the path of your speeding jeep/tank. It doesn't help that even slight nudges at 10mph can kill a man. Oh, and the annoyance factor is tripled on Ranked servers when such events actually mean a damn.

    2. Stupid servers rules that kick you for excessive teamkilling, even though you've only accidentally killed around 5 people over the course of 6 maps - 3 rounds ever map.

Apart from that, it's a beautiful thing.

Indeed, also it seems like some people simply cant figure out how to press page up when you're trying to assemble a squad

And seriously, this is a topic for the people that play and enjoy bf2, if you dont like it fine, but take it somewhere else.

Yes, I know perfectly well that common soldiers and the average street person were not Nazis nor did they support the acts that they did, but if you think about it, there has not been a single Nazi in RTS or FPS games since the days of Wolfenstein and Spear. So why did they leave them off?

In these "realistic" games you never attack and save people from concentration camps nor do they tell you about the things that went down behind the closed door with Himmler and his SS. So now we have kiddies who think that WW2 was cool because of Tom Hanks and his Band of Brothers series. All people who have studied WW2 do not think it was that glamorous, just like RD said, american soldiers were mostly kids with no idea what they were doing and SS had some very sick agenda.

Maybe it is just me and maybe I'm wrong for hating WW2 and people who make it so glamorous, because when I watched those documents I got sick and almost threw up, and that is the effect those games should have, to remind us of what it really was, and not to entertain us.

But yeah, now if those games were as brutal as they should, they wouldn't make them, and actually, that would be way better.

I agree that WW2 games these days does put a more bright light on it. Band of Brothers is a bad example though. Check episode 9 for example.

    of course it does

also quite neat to unsuspectedly stick a shitload of c4 on an enemy vehicle and then have it drive near some others when you detonate it~

    Heres mine

Im playing FuShe Pass, 32 player version as an American Spec Ops. There are 2 other squads that are full (6 players each), so I make my own squad and invite pretty much everybody that isnt in a squad already, one guy joins, typical. Anyway, we fight a bit, but then suddenly the Chinese are totally blocked off in a base, besides their uncapturable base. Me and my squadmate are the guys closest to it, so I grab a nearby Chinese jeep and we head over there.

Now, imagine 16 players squashed together at one spawn point, thats what we saw, and my initial thought was that we would last 10 seconds, but my response was to just to drive through them. In 1 run i get like 5 guys, and they're just flying into the air, all while my gunner is taking off guys behind us. I then drive over on a mountain side, have the jeep tilt up 90 degrees on the side, and then flip it down again (kinda like skating a halfpipe ) and drive over another guy.

    But it didnt end there

We then jump out of the jeep, i drop 2 c4 charges on the ground, and we sneak behind some buildings. A few seconds after I detonate and see 2 guys just flying over the building. Priceless.

Then one of the enemy players takes an APC, which could end our little rampage, so I run over to it, through a shitload of enemy soldiers (Think something like Spiers in Band of Brothers), plant 2 c4 on it, run like hell away and detonates it.

Then they got me shortly after, but that was one of the best experiences Ive ever had playing a computer game, truely stunning.

Oh yeah, me and my squadmate ended up having double the points of any of the other 6 man squads, pretty awesome

    Anyway, your turn!

I know what you mean Skjalg, but thats the way I learned it too. There were alot of harsh people on the counter-strike forums when I was starting up, and that didnt put me down, it made me stronger and better able to take critism.

But seriously, remakes like that one is just begging to be flamed ;D Even my first hl test map compile looked better than that

tbh then i was kinda disappointed after having seen it, but thats because i mainly gave into alot of the hype.

Its a really awesome movie, no doubt, the visual style is mindblowingly cool and such. The story just didnt do anything for me, but hey, its a totally mindless action movie so wth

Yeah, wouldnt mind if they turned the LOD off just for the trailer. But yeah, looks sweet, wont really judge it until I actually know something about the gameplay, but it certainly looks interesting
