This is a wreckless opinion. Blatantly stealing other people's work and repackaging it as your own is not something to be encouraged. Perhaps if it was Brothers in Arms they were blatantly stealing you wouldn't be so cheery about it. Or Mazy, if it were Hitman?

    Shame.

If someone made a WWII game where you control a squad as easily maybe, but Squad combat done as effectively as we have done it in BIA hasn't been done. I love to see someone else do it, to see their ideas and to see if they improved on anything. Frankly that hasn't happened yet. MOH:PA and Republic Commando are some examples of crappy implementation, even GRAW had bad implementation.

Mercenaries is fairly the Same sandbox game like GTA. Wide open areas, vehicles, various factions you can please and piss off, but since it takes place in Rural Korea is it a rip off? Just because of its setting?

If it's fun, people will buy it. f someone else does it better, than maybe I should step up and innovate show poeple why my game is still the best in the genre. Can't copyright gameplay and it would be a damn shame if you could.

That is why I buy games. Games are supposed to be fun, if I don't entertain me, then its a waste of money (Destroy All Humans, From Russia with Love).

(2nd point) That is why ESPN and Madden were good to go hand in hand. Can't say they are rip offs since they both dealt with Football, but they would constantly try to one up each other, but then once EA got the offical licence their competition went bye-bye. I would like to see more competition amongst games, but that is why so many games each have their own special features so they don't draw comparisons to the Big names.

    [/Holy Crap]

Well, actually I'd say that the squad mechanics in Freedom Fighters were at least as effective as in BIA, but they do each serve a different kind of purpose (BIA being heavily realistic cover and flanking based, where FF was more arcadey ). In fact when I first saw BIA, I saw it as a FF ripoff in its squad mechanics, but after trying the game I could see that they were a lot different~

Anyway, regarding copying or being inspired by other games then I think these sort of free roaming shooter games lend best to being copied since the entire point is exploration of a new world. I mean you could easily get away with copying something like GTA, where as doing a Katamari Damacy clone would be a lot harder to do without being blamed for ripping off their gameplay.

But I totally agree with Mojo, if its fun then who cares. I play games to have fun, and if its a shameless ripoff that's poorly put together then it's gonna get a bashing, but otherwise it'll only perfect whats already been done in some cases.

It was actually surprisingly well made. That's not to say that I was terribly impressed, but the graphics are pretty good, nice to see a GTA-clone with some nice shadows . Also stuff like how the vehicle handles, running around and shooting was pretty good stuff. Might be a bit too much ripping off GTA in terms of missions and structure but what the hell, why fix something if it aint broken

Hah I remember a guy from work playing that ages ago, had no idea it was Killswitch. Looked horrible back then as well

Anyway, regarding ripping off then I think its kinda silly. I mean cover mechanics arent really that special anymore, and although Killswitch might and probably have inspired Epic in many ways, then they're definitely refining it to the extreme, and putting together what seems like a really solid system for interacting with the world.

Playing a lot of DS Animal Crossing with the guys at work at the moment. Sweet stuff.

Not playing that much at home atm, but the Wedsneday XBLA releases are pretty good stuff, got some Pacman on yesterday

Other than that, some BF2: Armored Fury here and there, and some WoW too.

Really trying to minimize my gaming while I'm taking my drivers license, I'm sure it cant be good influence ;D

Completed Resident Evil 4 and Deus Ex again a little while ago in my vacation though, great stuff~

Well Izuno, according to Damon Lindelof (Co-creator and writer on the show) who's also on the Lost podcast, he said that he was sure that ABC will keep it on until ratings go down. His opinion on the matter was to end the show after the third or fourth season, but if Lost continues to have good ratings then it looks like it'll get watered out for sure.

No, I know all that crap with the vice presidents brother and all, its just so slow and boring, and I dont really care if that Lincon dude is guilty or whoever framed him or whatever, I just wanna see some guys escape instead of some boring shit where some lawyer is finding clues or whatever.

Conspiracy theories are great and all, but they just totally missed it in my opinion. The thing that draws you in is the stuff happening in the prison, not outside.

Really liked Prison Break in the beginning, but that entire side plot with the laywer chick is just so horrible. I actually started skipping those sections just to get to the stuff inside the prison.

Amazing when the people that make the show have no idea whats good about it.

I'm still hooked on it, but I'll agree that the 2nd season almost lost me a couple of times, but the second half of season 2 got better~

Good fun replayed it like 10 times (damn 15 min block!), I'm still slightly concered as to how long it will stay fun however. Sure its a big mall, and there's loads of gear to play with, but from what I've seen and played so far then it looks like it'll get pretty repetitve after a weekends play or so.

Really hope I'm wrong though, and it might just be me thats expecting too much from it.

Also, really love the visual style they got going on. Semi realistic characters and really sharp colours ftw!

Eh. I'm more excited about Bioshock really. All EA have got is the name since it's not the same developers who'll be working on SS3 so thus far there's nothing to suggest it'll be any good.

Precisely. However the thought of a new good System Shock game is fckn ace, though somewhat unlikely I thinkD:

Aye, GTA has always been about going where ever you want and the fact that you could swim in San Andreas made a huge difference for me, and really opened up the world more than flying did actually.

Anyway, I can certainly agree with the fact that Vice City had more style, and really captured the 80's feel better than SA captured the 90's feel. Plus lots of people were actually scared away by San Andreas' sheer size, and having so much stuff to explore just overwhelmed them. I felt that a bit in the beginning actually.

Also obviously Vice City didn't have to much elevation in its terrain, based on Miami being fairly flat (afaik anyway).

Indeed there are moments and areas that look pretty breathtaking. But the overall style of the old generation of GTA games was always one of having as much stuff there as possible, as opposed to having lots of quality stuff there.

Plus Mino, you're just a playa hater! (Game hater actually! )

Wow, this is all new to me

Seriously though, yeah, it can look pretty nasty but its the scale of the environment thats impressive (A few years ago I would've thought that idea of an entire state in game was insane!), and when you take that into account I think its pretty damn impressive.
