Haha awesome video. I got goosebumps when it reached Doom, so awesome that it had this "ooo super sekrat project" vibe going in the video. But yeah, it turned quite silly quite fast

Also Bobby Prince was fucking awesome, those games really wouldn't have been the same without him. I remember having seen the video about the Keen's Dream intro before

Heh, funny timing. Last week I did an interview for a danish radio station about being self taught with success, its being aired today actually.

I don't really have anything special to add either. When I started mapping there weren't really any game related educations here in Denmark, so from the very beginning I kinda had the attitude that if I wanted a job in the industry I'd have to do it by myself, and while going to school I considered it a mere distraction and that the mapping I did in my spare time the real education. After I finished high school, I started working very focused on creating the best maps I had ever done, with the plan being sending them to Io Interactive, and basically aiming to get the job in the first go. Now Io were also kind enough to offer me a trainee position at first, because I had very limited 3ds max experience at the time, and if I had been aware of that being as large a driving force as it is then I'd definitely have started learning that earlier on, knowing as many engines and modelling packages as possible is never a bad thing, even if just on a basic level.

Sadly, I think the current climate is pretty rough for people that don't have pinpoint accurate skills for the place they're applying to. I've definitely heard of, and seen fewer and fewer trainees being taking in, so that's also starting to become a less viable way of getting a job. But then again, it also varies from place to place.

I do think that learning it on your own can still work, but you have to be very good and dedicated in this day and age. And if you aren't just naturally good, you really have to put in the time and just hone your skills. And although others in this thread have mentioned trying to learn various skills and be more of a jack of all trades, then I'd definitely start by focusing on level design/game design, and figure out exactly if that's what you're passionate about.

    Hope you figure it out

Gotta admit that it was somewhat off my radar, maybe because my 2nd 360's DVD drive broke when i was playing it, so it kinda overshadowed the game in some ways, i finished it and it was pretty good.

This new one looks pretty damn awesome, definitely gonna get it (I'm a sucker for western games n such, can't wait for Red Dead Redemption too), but damn the voice acting is terrible. Really a shame

    Anyway, looks good, gj seir

Maybe it's just me, but i can't get any hype from a call of duty game . In the end, we all know what we will be playing at : an extremely linear FPS.

    Did you play COD4?

Usually I get easily annoyed with games that people are being just a bit too enthusiastic about, but COD4 was one of the biggest game changer the industry has seen in years, so I think its totally justified in this case. But then again, I'm mainly thinking about the MP, although the SP was excellent as well, imo

I am very interested in seeing exactly what they'll be doing this time around to spice it up. I have a feeling that COD4 was also just a case of a game that came out at the exact right time and just had everything go right for it, so it'll be interesting to see if lightning can strike twice for IW.

By then the only things we'll be playing games with are sticks and stones

    http://gdc.gamespot.com/video/6206692/

GDC conference video, slightly less skeptical now, and after I had one of the coders at work tell about the actual numbers required to make this work then it actually sounds very plausible, if there's a dedicated hub in each country that is

So yeah, maybe in 2 years in the US, 5-10 for the rest of the world

I'm sure some of you saw this announcement today. The idea is that when you subscribe you get access to a high end computer over the net, which you will have a 720p video feed to and be able to remote control.

Its a very interesting concept, and one that has definitely been floating around for a while. I'm still extremely skeptical about it, since fast paced games really leave no room for slow response times, and unless their "7 year in the making revolutionary tech" really is something different, then I find it hard that it'll be possible on a 5m/bit connection like they're saying.

That's not to say that it isn't interesting, even if it has thick Phantom smell about it . I'm on a nearly 5 year old computer and I'm thinking of getting a new computer, and I'd much rather get a slick Macbook Pro and use something like this the few times I play PC games, rather than buying some dull generic mid-range gamer PC that probably wont be able to keep up that long anyway. What further makes this intriguing is that number of publishers that are supporting this, its a pretty substantial list.

Shouldn't say anything until I've actually seen something proper from it, but judging from that teaser image then it looks like they're going in a more badditudish direction. I certainly hope thats not the case. Having him suddenly be a hobo or whatever might be a change, but not a good one in my eyes. To be honest I don't even know where I'd take a third MP game, the first two were just so damn good that It'd be freaking hard to top.

Anyway, I definitely don't have high hopes for this so far, then again, I'm being a whiny bastard thats basing it on a short press statement and a teaser picture.

Visually its just unbelievable that its a DS game. Looks absolutely stunning, especially when you realize that they've actually recreated all of GTA IV's Liberty City (to a certain extent), except for Alderney.

Played it a few hours this weekend, and although I'll agree with watah in that the driving controls are kinda twitchy, then it still feels like it really is meant to be a DS game. I'm sure I'll probably get tired of the hardwiring minigame at some point tho, just not yet

Been playing it for about 5-6 hours, not terribly impressed with what I've played so far. In fact I've found myself borderline bored a lot of the time. It almost seems that you have to play it in co-op to get anything decent out of it, because in single-player (which I'm playing it like) the partner just feels annoying and outta place.

I hope it'll get better, but its definitely not as good as RE4. Even if times and standards have changed since 2005 then that game felt a lot better overall.

Finished it earlier tonight, pretty good most the through. When I started feeling the game winding down I was kinda disappointed, wanted it to go on for a bit longer, thats always a good sign.

Haven't played that much MP yet, but the few rounds I've tried were pretty good. Its just too bad that the horrible aiming feels even more in-your-face when you're playing against other players, but I guess its fair since everybody's struggling with the same controls
