    mmmh meat...

Was thinking the same thing Gotta love Warby's spelling~

But yeah, I think this is very much wishful thinking, and although somebody like Valve probably could get away with it, then devs with a smaller, less loyal fanbase, would probably struggle a great deal to make something like this work.

What the others have already said more or less, although I'd say the emphasis on single player depends on where you wanna go. Its really good to have SP experience, in my opinion doing SP stuff is WAAAY harder than MP, but if you're eyeing out a gig on a MP game then that's obviously totally valid to have experience in, but having a fairly all round skill set is obviously more attractive to employers.

Regardless then just doing lots of different stuff and trying to do a really complete and varied portfolio yielded great results for me, so that's probably the best advice I can give. Goes without saying that its better to have a portfolio displaying 5 unique maps, rather than 5 different warehouse themed maps

[Blocked Image: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/32/Yakuza_3_Cover.png/252px-Yakuza_3_Cover.png]sega haven't released an english version so i'll have to rely on gamefaqs. i was going to import yakuza 3 too but the story/characters are my favourite part of the series, and it costs £50-80.

I wish I had your guts, it looks absolutely brilliant but I can't be bothered to play something I don't understand. Been playing Yakuza 2 on/off for the last couple of months and I'm really liking it~hopefully they will release Yakuza 3 with english subs sometime soon.

not underrated but definitely under-appreciated I think. I've yet to talk to a single "video game buff" irl who heard of shenmue. maybe cause it was on dreamcast?

Definitely under appreciated. Although I usually show my love for it in a fairly sarcastic way, then it was way ahead of its time in many areas, still angers me that they couldn't at least have made a third game to wrap it up. Fucking Yu Suzuki and his 10 game long epic :G

[Blocked Image: http://www.imfdb.org/images/1/14/Ssgame.jpg]It's a turnbased squad game set just after WW2 in an alternate history or something like that. It had fully destructible enviroments, ragdolls (that was major back then!) and lots of other cool shit. It's sort of like UFO Xcom, with nazis and ragdolls.

Dude, yeah. I played that A LOT, even though my computer at the time could barely handle it. Remember getting single digit framerates in the last turns of every match (When everything had been fucked up). Oh good times, those guys should definitely have been handed the X-Com IP and have em do their thing.

I gotta admit that I've been slightly uninterested in this one, but it actually sounds like a really healthy and cool direction for id to go in. I also like that its a post-apocalyptic world but that it kinda has a very bright and kinda shiny look to it, at least from what those pictures look like

It got pretty shitty reviews when it came out, and if it wasn't for my achievement addiction at the time I would never have given it a chance. Even in a year as jam packed with good games as 2007, Shadowrun was actually one of the games I had the most fun with.

Oh and D3, System Shock 2 and NOLF? Underrated? What the hell are you talking about. Both those games sold quite well for the time, and they got amazing reviews. Everybody that's played them will probably hold them up as some of the best games of all time. In fact they're games, especially SS2, that are still influencing the industry to this date.

The story and all was fine but the reason to get this game is to blow shit up! I think the demo didn't give a good showing of the different types of buildings as some of them are very strong and take a good bit to destroy, but its all the better when it comes crashing down.

Heh, aight. I actually think it had one of the best demos in a long while, had plenty of tools to fuck shit up with, especially the Walker if you just plowed through every building in your way. Its one of very few demos the last year where I actually played it multiple times, and i would definitely not have bought the game without that demo

I figured I'd just start it up and close it down again, since I usually get tired with flash based games fairly quickly these days, but the humor definitely made this one stand out in a really good way. Ended up spending 20 minutes on it

Bump - just another juicy detail that came out of the still ongoing legal battle between Take 2 and 3D Realms: Remember that mysterious "Duke Begins" title, which is supposedly in development by an external, well-known developer? Apparently that was/is Gearbox!Source: http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/59522

They need zilla's mad writing sk1llz to save Duke!

Well, not that this really matters, but in theory they could have submitted the game and have it ready to get manufactured right now, there are plenty of cases where games are done way before they actually ship.

But considering that COD4 is only 2 years old, and they probably want this to make as absolutely big a bang as possible (since it needs to launch the Modern Warfare franchise ) then they're probably giving it all the polish it can get.

Anyway, although I've pretty much permanently gone away from buying special editions of games then this one has me intrigued.

    I'm such a tool D:

Well its one of those games where I've raved so much about it at work that I guess I forgot to make a thread here.

But yeah, definitely one of the best games of the year so far. Although a bit rough around the edges then both the campaign and multiplayer were great fun. Still very impressed that they actually got the game running on the consoles at a fairly steady 30fps with all the crazy destruction and physics objects flying around.

From what I heard it also sold quite well, which is totally deserved. Hopefully they can do a sequel thats even more polished and rounded off (If THQ can stay in business that is )
