  • Bungie's new game and firings

While on the subject of Kotaku, I've found myself basically not visiting the site at all after they changed the design. Can't stand it, makes navigating their site a chore. Also they seem like they go off topic constantly, every other post is about the editors having a conversation or something completely unrelated to anything. The Gawker sites in general are the tabloids of the internet blogging world, Kotaku just seemed a bit more decent for a while I guess.

But in all fairness then they did update the story about Bungie.

":e7epn1j1]You know what also makes me cringe? These so called, new generation of gamers that keep posting comments on the internet like: "wtf is this? borderlands rip-of? And fallout3? And who's id?"

    it makes me LOL!

Well, in all fairness then id aren't exactly making it easy for those folks with their "when it's done" development times and all

This is classic in video games tho. Most consumers probably have the mentality that if game A comes out today and has an oilrig exploding and game B comes out in two weeks and also has an oilrig exploding, then the developer of game B clearly ripped off game A. Like that magically they saw the other game and simply had to rip it off, completely ignoring the fact that these things are usually set in stone a year or more away from release. I've had conversation with my non game dev friends that still think like this, so I know it's true

Sure, Borderlands is definitely more stylized, but the latest Rage trailer has such a high contrast that it almost looks like cel shading, at least in the outside environments. :derp:

I don't see what Mazy is talking about on the Borderlands thing. [Blocked Image: http://www.hadishination.com/hadishiboards/images/smilies/ClassicSmilies/loco.gif]

If I wasn't clear about it, what I meant is that it seems like its kinda lost the few things that made it stand out from Borderlands, and now it really does look exactly the same.

I am aware that they're both basically the same in theme

Intriguing, I can definitely imagine them being able to put together a good MMO FPS with Halo already being a semi sandbox game. Not that an MMO necessarily has to be a consistent open world.

Sucks about the firings though, even if the guy is pissed then it sounds like Bungie handled it somewhat poorly.

Hmmm, it's started looking a lot more like Borderlands, almost looks like there's cell shading on the characters

Still sceptical about Rage, but I'm sure it'll end up as a fun shooter.

uh why not just use the example vmf's that are provided with the source SDK?

Yeah, you can basically lift anything you need from that. Plus for something like TF2 you got loads of map source files included where you can copy the entity setups if you cant be bothered to figure it out the hard way.

Hah, that's awesome. For something that got canned back in 2005 then it looks surprisingly good now (Get kind of a God of War vibe from some of those shots).

I still quite like what they're doing with D3 now, but it definitely doesn't hold true to what the old games looked like, where as this certainly does...or did.

Hardly surprising, sadly. Like Dead Space it would probably end up way better in a sequel, and considering that the first ME was already a terrific achievement on so many levels then it was definitely something to be excited for, but I guess we'll never know. I do find it puzzling that EA took the chance with DS but not with ME, guess DS did better business than ME in the end.

So thrilled about this one, but I do hope that shooter parts aren't their bread and butter gameplay.

I'm still very much waiting for a game to portray the harsh realities and violence of a cartel war, breaking bad style. Sign me up if you guys go for the full hardcore depiction mode.

Definitely, could actually be a fresh take on crime based games these days. But I also doubt it would be without risk, there'd probably be plenty of people that would be turned way off by something like that.
