If only we could release some of the video shenanigans people have cooked up at the last few IOI Christmas parties!

Haha... ooh, what did Mazy and Barb get up to in 2006?

So, it's out, and all the web sites hosting the video are getting hammered (Shacknews, Kotaku, etc) so commenting there is out of the question. Looks like Duke can still bring the old school crowds in, but I wonder if any of the newer crowd of gamers (Halo and the like) will know who he is, or will they be interested?

Anywho, for being a teaser it was pretty damn underwhelming. These are the things one would expect after no public appearances for six years. The screen caps show some pretty embarrassing stuff. Still no signs of gameplay.

Pretty horrible teaser, but god dammit I'm excited! I genuinely hope they pull it off and actually make a decent game. Would be so awesome

But obviously, being a realist, I think this will just be Prey with Duke one-liners

That new Duke Nukem theme (old one remastered I guess) is kick ass!

More gameplay/in-game would have been nice. The alien character design looked horrible in my opinion.

    Jesus, the characters look terrible.

Those who say "who cares": It's fucking Duke 3D! The original was state of the art and thats the least one could expect from the new title especialy after such a long development time.

Art: Hardly jaw-dropping. Compared to the best stuff around, it looks decidedly poor.

Voice acting: Sounded like Duke has been attending anger management classes and is now in a "good place". I expected better.

I agree with some of the previous posters. Duke is now (sadly) looking like an irrelevance. If this is meant to get people excited, I don't have any expectations for the game whatsoever, and that's coming from someone who played some of the original games. What will gamers who are new to the Duke series make of this? It'll probably just look like uninspired dross to them. Oh well, here's hoping the game is immeasurably better than the teaser.

I have to say that I too am very underwhelmed by the trailer. As I said earlier, though:

    Quote from Thrik

It's kind of a shame that they cannot possibly better the original trailer for sheer coolness, so it's an uphill battle.

And sure enough, they haven't outdone it -- not even close (bear in mind the 2001 trailer also looked shit hot back then). Of course this is only a teaser, but I think we've been teased enough haven't we?

My main problem with Duke is his animation. He looks really rigid and unnatural, and I'd have expected something as fundamental as animation to be liquid smooth and perfect in a short teaser like this. The short clips of gameplay didn't actually look too bad though, so perhaps it's just a cast of this being a weak example (when playing you're never really going to see Duke himself anyway).

Still holding my breath, but I'm not sure Duke Nukem Forever can really innovate much like its predecessor did. There've been so many alien ass kicking games since then (and indeed since 2001) it's going to have to be very good at standing out.

I think the main problem (Which I also think is what makes Duke awesome to me) is that it's soooo outta its time by now. It's probably one of the most 90'ish feeling games/series there is, and keeping it going in this day and age where everything is much more modern and professional will just feel awkward and weird. But that is kinda what I want from it

Wow the animation of him at the end with him cracking his knuckles looked really... crap

Seriously how did they not release the 2001 game?! it looked so much more polished and smoother compared to this new version, you know? Even with the U3 engine it hardly looks that amazed in comparison to what we've already seen. I was really expecting to see 3DRealms pulling out all the stops for this considering the time in development but after having watched the video it looked decidedly "average to meh" I expect 3DReals will get responses like this then can the game and start over on the Crysis Engine.

I'm really dissapointed. I was really expecting it to top the Unreal 1 2001 build

Not that I'm expecting too much from this either, considering I ruled out the possibility for a release ages ago, but maybe we should keep in mind, that this is just a teaser they put together for their christmas party. As they stated, a few people have been working through the nights to make this short clip, so if it's lacking in certain areas, that doesn't mean it'll do so in the final version of the game too. They've got, judging by their deadlines, plenty of time to finish up whatever they want. I think I even read somewhere that there was a lot of work still to be done.

But I agree, that judging by the few gamplay clips with the plastic monsters, those parts do look awfully finished(and awfully awful). But maybe it'll be a blast to play through

But well, Duke looking like he just shat a ton of bricks might be explained by the context of this video release. But who knows ;o I still think he looked like a badass, and if it ever does hit the shelves, I won't hesitate to buy and play it through, if only for the nostalgia. Even if I don't dare expect much.

STOP WHINING!!! THIS IS DUKE NUKEM FOR FUCK'S SAKE!!!

I'm with klein on this one, who cares about half-arsed models if it's as fun as the original game?

Wish people would stop mentioning Unreal Engine 3 or Doom 3 Engine since it uses niether... One major good point I liked from the teaser is it looks as if it may run better PCs. My only problem is Duke's hair needs more work, but it seems the staff are constantly tweaking the Duke model. Funny how we're getting Graphics > Gameplay type posts though here though... =/
