Ray-traced lightning works, but takes a VERY LONG TIME for the most simple things:

sdk crashes after update...
steam is one of the worst inventions on the world...
cant load filesystemopendialog.dll
missing material 'materials/flatnocull'
game dir is correct

-
Wow, works great for me. Haven't tried the ray-traced one, but the other's great. Ill get some shots in a minute.
Edit - I take all that back. Cs:s editing is completely broken. Maps have all weird lines over them in the 2d views; the 3d view doesn't work; the cursor disappears when you mouse over a 2d view; hammer crashes randomly when loading; a load of errors come up saying something about 'nullface'.
Just a short list of errors.
Quote from Pericolos0so its basically pretty useless.. raytracing doesnt look anything like radiosity lighting and realtime preview just has no shadows

You can check out general lighting of the scene, (ie, making sure you have the right 'mood') and then refine it later on.

Yay for rushed releashes.
Other things I've noticed couple new property windows are different, theres a couple new buttons on the top bar, there are lots of new entities (including a prop_vehicle_drivable) and a dropdown box appears as you type in entities.
And yeah, everything seems bodeged tbh.

I have that error when I try to add mods to the orange sdk.
Light preview makes most stuff black, 3d raycast rendering doesn;t seem to work, or its barely using my cpu

lol
I love how Hammer is pretty much the most tacked-together piece of shit editor in the history of forever (from a quick glance it's almost indistinguishable from its ancient Quake father), yet produces some of the best games in history.

-
I agree Thrik. I'm surprised its so all over the place. I hope they basically finish it off and update it.
I hope after EP3 they will write a new engine a with a new editor built from scratch. As long as the editor works similar to hammer (I think Hammer is one of the easiest and yet powerfulest editors about) it would be good.
-
Woah 7 pages, that was fast

-
Pogo, did you tried in backwards compatibilty mode?

that's quite a far fetched hope you've got there, sonny  i agree on hammer being one of the easiest to learn editors ever made. for all it's errors, it is still a quality piece of work.

I'd say it's more of a golden turd.

Not yet, I'll try it out. Though the reason I want to open my map is to see the lighting preview on it, as well as adding some nifty particle effects to the skybox.
I can however, open my Cs:s map using the Half life 2: Ep 2/TF2/Portal configurations, but obviously a lot of textures are missing and the 3d lighting preview is b0rked.

can we get some specs from people this had fully worked for?
-
by todays standarts hammer certainly is a piece of junk. i agree its time for valve to design a completely new editor for source. but we had this discussion loads of times already.
