Ich sag jetzt nicht "Viel Glück", da ich mal denke das dir das erstmal nichts bringt - eher Viel Erfolg, denn den kannst und wirst du (hoffentlich) haben - rock on ![]()
good luck! It's good to get away from the crunch of games sometimes. There is a whole world out there!
hehe nice to hear that from you Frie, it's a very tough decision but you are doing the right thing I suppose. You gotta have big cojones to quit a "dream job" and go to university, you got my respect for that ![]()
As Twiz said I'm pretty sure you will enjoy your time there. I used to hate school and being forced to study boring stuff. And now it's totaly different since I'm studying what I enjoy (graphic design, visual arts etc) and have friends who have a lot in commom with me.
(interesting fact: I used to skip like 1-2 classes a week when I was in high school because. I have skipped college only 2 times so far
)
Good luck Frie ![]()
Good luck ![]()
Good luck duder!
Good luck with your studies sir! I still have one year to go.
Sad to see you leave the game industry, but I'm glad you'll be doing something you want to do! Best of luck Frie.
Quote from MazySo, how long will this education take? I have a lot of friends who are in the progress of taking education at the university, and they have like 3 years left, even after spending 2 years on it already, nuts
But good luck
The university is a "university of applied sciences" and the studies actually consist of "trimesters" (instead of "semesters", although there are only 2 times a year you can join class, anyway...), so I won't have those 3 months summer vacations and whatnot, but the good thing is that it won't take forever. It will still be 3 years for a bachelor degree, but that also includes half a year internship in a company. If I want to go for a masters, I would need to chip in 2 additional years...I'll see once I got my BD if that is something I want to pursue ![]()

Let's call it "a break" ![]()

Thanks for the kind words everyone!
sad to see you leaving the industry frie but its what you want to be doing so you can't fight with that. Hope all goes well for you!
A strange move, but good luck and enjoy ![]()
Good luck FrieChamp! I think you'll have a blast ![]()
I've been thinking a lot about going back to school too but I dunno it's just so nice to have some money and a good job without a degree that it seems counter productive to go back!
Except you may still be doing that same job 10 years from now because your employer will imagine you're only capable of doing that. The more choices the merrier ![]()
Someone leaving the industry by its own free will, this doesn't happen everyday. So do you want a real job eh?
Good luck FrieChamp.
Sounds like a well thought through decission, I am sure it wasn't easy to just give up on a fantastic job at Crytek.
I am curious however, what exactly is "Media economics" about? Does it have anything to do with game or graphic design? Or is it a traditional economics degree with a little twist?
But good luck!

Economics is certainly one element of the studies, but not everything. It basically covers everything you might need if you work in a media related business. That could be a newspaper/magazine, a publisher, TV or radio station...So I also get to improve my language skills, I can focus on project managment or marketing later on. Everything's also meant to be more practical and not as theoretical as traditional economics at regular universities, which I find appealing.
But it doesn't have anything to do with design, neither game or graphics related. I see these studies as an opportunity to widen my horizon and gain myself more options as to what I will end up doing the rest of my life (probably), instead of digging further in just one field.

even the graphics are better than in crysis! and everything gets rendered smoothly at unlimited fps!
edit: you know i appreciate everybody who puts going university above "the industry". it is so easy to get a job at a game company, but it is much harder to get a degree and become someone more important than the little prop artist or level designer!
that's why i go to university: to keep my self all possibilities related to my interests! i like graphics, i like programming, i like technology and making concepts. that's what my degree is about. being someone who is tough enough to solve many different problems.
anyway, wishing you all the best and probably we can once again have a party, because bielefeld isnt the end of the world ![]()
Those jokes are worse than Shadows mapping ![]()
Bielefeld gibts doch garnich! ![]()
Trotzdem viel Erfolg!
